Welcome to week one of Term 4. It’s been lovely seeing how excited our students are at being back at school. Thank you for your assistance in maintaining the school uniform expectations. Wearing the Mango Hill uniform allows students to feel pride in being part of Team Mango.
We have an action-packed term ahead. Be sure to check out the dates on the term overview and block out any relevant to youStudent safety
In week 2, Thursday 10 October, our school will be holding a practice lock down. We prioritise student and staff safety and as such plan for the unlikely event of various scenarios.
2025 School Resource Scheme and Booklists
Our school is very aware of the rising costs of living, as such, we have reviewed the Student Resource Scheme, and skimmed some items back to bring the costs down. For 2025, the P&C approved SRS will be charged at $80 per child. The school will invoice you in the near future to allow you to set up a payment plan or to pay this in full. Please note, there is NO expectation for this to be paid prior to January 27, 2025. We are purely giving our families the option to avoid receiving this bill, often at the most expensive time of the year.
You will also note the 2025 booklists are also attached via the links below. Once again, these resources are not required until next year. A break down of the SRS is available from the school's website.
https://mangohillss.eq.edu.au/enrolments/resource-scheme
Prep 2025 Parent Information Session
We look forward to seeing parents and carers of Prep 2025 at our information session in Gigum Hall on Thursday 10 October from 6.00pm - 7.00pm. Orientation sessions for 2025 begin the following week. Please contact the office by Friday to complete your enrolment process if you have a child joining us next year.
Homework/Reading Club
Next week our school is commencing a homework/reading club, held in the lab on Monday to Thursday morning, from 8.00am – 8.30am. All students are welcome to attend.
Arts Fest
Our Arts Fest was such a success this year. We raised approximately $11,000 for our Arts Program and $5500 for our Year 6 graduation. Thank you so much for supporting this event.
Staffing
Term 4 has seen some changes to staff. We welcome Ms Mel Edward and Ms Louise Slade to backfill Ms Feeney. We also welcome Ms Laura Maltaric to backfill Ms Vaf. Ms Rufford has also finished up to commence her maternity leave. We wish her the best of luck for her impending birth. Mr Ben Mills, DP Year 6, has also been successful picking up a DP role a little closer to home. He will finish up at Mango Hill on Thursday 10 October. Mr Mills will be replaced by Ms Evan Barrett. Ms Barrett comes to us as an experienced DP. I know you will join with me in welcoming our new staff to Mango Hill.
2025 School Planning
It is that time of the year again where we are starting to formulate 2025 classes.
If you have any matters you would like us to consider for your child’s class placement in 2025, please complete a Class Considerations Form and return to Petrina Ollard polla2@eq.edu.au by Friday 25 October, 2024. Late submissions will not be considered.
If your child will not be returning to MHSS in 2025, please let us know so we can ensure our staffing and resources are as accurate as possible.
Hats Hats Hats
As the weather is warming up the school is having a blitz on students wearing sun-safe hats. Students will be directed to an undercover area if they do not have a sun safe hat. Please help us keep your child safe by ensuring they have a hat, labelled with their name. It’s a good idea to have a spare one just in case they misplace theirs.
Important Dates
A reminder that this Monday is a public holiday.
Good luck to our selected Year 5 and 6 students who will be competing in the Public Speaking Finals on Tuesday 8 October
The Respect Program: What does the research tell us?
As we move forward with the implementation of the Respect Program in our Term 4 Health units, we all play an important role introducing this vital resource developed by the Department of Education. This program is a key initiative of the Queensland Government’s commitment to addressing domestic and family violence. The alarming statistics underscore the crucial role of this program in changing the narrative and shaping a safer future for all children in our state.
On Friday 11 October at 9.00am in Wandani, we will be hosting information sessions for parents and carers to further explore the Respect Program. If you require support or more information about the Respect Program, please visit here.

This week in Care Class we are learning to Care for Learning by setting personal goals and following our Consistent, Predictable Routines.
Goal setting is a powerful motivator and involves the development of an action plan to guide a person or group toward a goal. SMART goals allow you to write clear, attainable and meaningful goals. An example could be, I will read for 20 minutes each night before I go to bed for one month to improve my reading skills.
Consistent Predictable Routines help students to know what is expected of them at school, in turn supporting student wellbeing and learning. What consistent predictable routines do you have at home?
Calling all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and community members. We are urgently looking for more Crossing Supervisors to help our students and families get across the road before and after school safely.
This is a paid casual job and hours of paid work would be 7:45 am- 8:45 am and 2:30 pm - 3:15 pm. Days are flexible.
If you are interested in joining our team please email BSM@mangohillss.eq.edu.au
Please note that you must have or be willing to obtain a Blue Card, complete a Criminal History check, and pass a medical clearance.

Welcome back!
It has been lovely seeing our Prep friends back at school along with welcoming some new friends to our Prep cohort this week. We are excited about the learning and experiences ahead which includes swimming for the first 6 weeks. Please speak with your class teachers if you have any questions regarding this.

Every Day Counts
As we approach a busy time of year, it’s important to remember that Prep students are expected to attend school every day unless they are sick or there is another valid reason. Learning continues to be a top priority throughout Term 4 and unnecessary absences can impact your child’s achievement and connections with peers. Our goal is for all learners to be at school every day so they can finish the year strong and feel positive and prepared for next year. You can visit the Every day counts website at https://education.qld.gov.au/initiatives-and-strategies/initiatives/every-day-counts for further information. I will continue to monitor Prep attendance and reach out to offer supports to families with lower-than-expected attendance rates. If you need any support in relation to school attendance, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your class teacher or with me.
Shared Reading
This term our Prep learners will be developing their ability to ‘make meaning’ or ‘comprehend’ books that are read to them by their class teachers (and you). They will be doing this by recalling events that happen in the story and discussing how characters might be feeling. They might look at pictures for clues about the feelings of characters or think about the character’s words and/or actions. Reading to your child and making time to discuss what is happening is a great way to support the development of making meaning from texts and nurturing a love of enjoying a good book.
The Benevolent Society – school visit for parents
The Benevolent Society is the NDIS Early Childhood Partner in our community. They offer a range of supports to children with developmental concerns, delay or disability. The Benevolent Society helps families work out what supports can be accessed to help your child reach their goals. This might include linking you with community services, short term intervention supports and NDIS funded supports. Kirsty Daley from the Benevolent Society is coming to school on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 October from 2.40-3.00pm to explain more about pathways to support and early intervention. She is available to speak with parents who have any questions and can support you with navigating the process of accessing supports.
If you would like to attend either of these drop-in sessions, please email me on mmunk1@eq.edu.au.

Welcome back!
Welcome back to school Year 1 families! I hope you all had a wonderful break and are ready for an exciting Term 4 ahead. It has been a pleasure getting to know the Year 1 students this week, and I’m excited to see all the wonderful learning and achievements that will take place in their classrooms over the course of their final term of Year 1!
Our English Unit is well underway and this term we will be exploring books from the Lighthouse Keeper series, identifying how the author uses the setting and a range of problems to create an interesting story. Students will then use some of these ideas to write their very own stories that have a similar setting but a new problem and solution. Telling stories is an important part of our daily lives as we recount events and experiences, and use these to entertain others.
Students have also been busy learning all about Australian coins. We are starting to understand the concept of money values, how to count money, and how to solve real-world money problems! It’s been fun to see some little shops popping up in many of our classrooms, with students earning classroom money to spend.
And finally, it has been wonderful to see so many students practising sun-safety this week! Let’s make sure we have our hats every day. We ask that you please ensure your child’s hat is clearly labelled so it will always find its way back to them.
A few date claimers for our busy term
- Diversity Day, Friday 1 November
- Year 1 Awards Ceremony, Thursday 5 December
- Christmas Carols, Monday 9 December
- Report Cards sent home, Wednesday 11 December
Happy Term 4 everyone!

Welcome Back to Term 4!
We are back ready for learning in Term 4. It’s hard to believe that in just eleven weeks time, the children will be moving into Year 3!
It has been wonderful visiting classrooms this week and seeing the children talk excitedly about their holidays. There were so many wonderful adventures had! Here’s what some of the children shared.
I had dinner and watched Inside Out 2 with my family. – Masato 2M.
I went to Revolution for a birthday party and also went to New South Wales. – Mason 2F.
We had a play date together and went to Redcliffe Lagoon. – Bodhi and Archie 2F.
I had a trip on the train. We went to the city and went to a pool there. – Isabella 2L.
I stayed on the Gold Coast in a hotel and there were two waterslides and three pools. – Lordymae 2M.
Look at these superstars from 2I who were straight back into learning writing two truths and a lie about their holidays.
Out in the playground, there were many opportunities for friends to catch up with one another. Look at all these happy smiling faces and so great to see everyone wearing their school hats!

Welcome to Term 4!
I hope everyone had a refreshing break and is ready for an exciting 11-week term to conclude a fantastic 2025.
Swimming Superstars
Our Year 3 students kicked off the term with enthusiasm during their first swimming lessons on Monday and today. They’ve been embracing the Four Cares at the pool and actively engaging with the instructors. I was most impressed with how organised and ready for swimming our students were. They brought their sun safe swimming clothes, thongs, towel and some even had a swimming cap and goggles. Way to go Team Mango!
Lunch time in Year 3
This term, we’re thrilled to offer a variety of lunch clubs for Year 3 students. Our soccer field has reopened, and we’re excited to welcome back Mr. Paul for some martial arts fun!
As the weather warms up, it’s essential for all students to wear their hats. To help everyone remember, I encourage students to wear their hats to and from school each day.
Let’s make this term a great one!

Welcome back!
We are back ready for learning in Term 4. It has been wonderful visiting classrooms this week and seeing the children talk excitedly about their holidays. There were so many wonderful adventures had!
Hats please! Each and every day, students should wear their hats to and from school and at each break. Some Year 3 students report that they have misplaced their hat or that they are forgetting to wear it to school. Could you please help us by doing a “stocktake” to ensure your child still has their hat.
Camp at Runaway Bay
Camp is just around the corner and I know the excitement is building for all of our students. Now is a great time to plan everything that the students need for camp and to finalise medication forms. Remember to check-in with your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions and refer back to the camp notes sent out from last term.

Welcome back to Term 4!
We hope you had a restful break and are ready for an exciting end to the school year. This term promises to be filled with engaging learning experiences and memorable events.
Term 3 Highlights
Term 3 was vibrant and full of activity! Our Year 5 students had a fantastic time at camp, building teamwork and resilience. We also celebrated creativity through our Art Fest and saw our talented students shine in Wakakirri. The Swim Safety Program equipped students with vital skills, while interschool sports brought out the best in our athletes, as well as students being able to participate in events such as the Aspley Cup, QLD Netball Cup, and AFL Schools Cup.
Our choir delivered beautiful performances at the Pine Rivers Show, and we are proud of our students who participated in the Italian Speaking Competition. Additionally, our engagement with Met North Sports and Debating showcased our students’ talents and dedication.
Term 4 Curriculum Focus
As we dive into Term 4, our English curriculum will focus on moral dilemmas. Students will respond to thought-provoking questions, such as, “Who is responsible for the shooting of Mr. Percival?” from the novel Storm Boy. This will encourage critical thinking and evidence-based discussions.
In Mathematics, students will explore financial math, tackling complex problems related to expenditure, income, and profit. A highlight of this unit will be the in-school ‘marketplace,’ where students can apply their knowledge in a real-world context.
2025 Student Leadership Process
We are excited to announce the start of the student leadership process for 2025. This week, students will receive a "Student Leader Passport," which outlines the steps they need to follow to develop their leadership skills. This passport will guide them through the application and selection process, encouraging them to reflect on their strengths and aspirations as future leaders in our school community.
Important Reminders
As we strive to maintain a safe environment, please remember to use the carpark safely. Additionally, students are reminded to wear their hats while outdoors to protect themselves from the sun.
Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in our school community. We look forward to a fantastic Term 4 filled with learning, growth, and achievement!

Welcome back!
The final term of Primary School for our Year 6 students! It’s hard to believe that it has arrived. This term is a busy, but very special one for our students. We hope they make the most of every moment and harbour wonderful memories from their time with Team Mango. Let the fun begin!
Year 6 Graduation
At the end of this term, our Year 6 students and their families will get to celebrate the conclusion of their time in Primary School at Graduation. We have a fun evening planned, full of games, photos, dancing and acknowledgements. Graduation will be on Wednesday 4 December. Please keep this evening free. More details to come throughout the term.
Our next Graduation Committee meeting will be this evening, beginning at 5pm in the Wandani building, on the far side of the Piazza. We will then have two more meetings during the term before Graduation occurs. All are welcome.
High School transitions
Throughout the term lots of high schools will be doing their transition days. We have students attending a variety of high schools next year. As soon as you know when your child’s transition day is (if not attending MHSSC), please notify your child’s teacher so that they can plan teaching and learning to ensure they don’t miss anything important.

Curriculum Happenings
It has been so great to talk with students this week who are excited to be learning new things already in Term 4!
While the Christmas decorations are already in shops, we still have 10 weeks to learn lots of new things. In English this term, students will be reading and viewing a range of texts including picture books, novels, poems and multimodal texts. Some of the Term 4 units focus on my favourite texts like “Harry the Dirty Dog”, “Storm Boy” and “My Place”. Our students will also be writing their own texts this term, with many students learning the conventions of narratives and arguments. We all love a good story and we all need to know how to argue our position, so this term will set us all up for success for the years ahead.
Students will also build their understandings in Maths, Science, Technology, HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences), The Arts, Italian and HPE. Our Term 4 Curriculum Overview provides further details about the learnings for each of the year levels.

Scholastic Book Club
This week we have distributed the Scholastic Book Club brochures to all students. If families would like to purchase books from the brochure, orders need to be submitted by Thursday 10 October. We can only accept ONLINE orders. We anticipate that once the orders are submitted, we will receive the books within a couple of weeks. This should mean that the orders will be back in plenty of time for the end of the term, which makes them excellent for Christmas gifts.
Scholastic provide our school with a percentage of all sales, so your generosity will go towards the purchase of more books for our growing Hub collection. We thank you for your support.
Borrowing from the Hub
Don’t forget that the beginning of a new term is a great time to set some new reading goals. Would you like to read a new series, investigate a new author or reach a new level in AR?
Pop on down to the Hub to find the perfect book for Term 4 now. The Hub is open every day from 8.15am until 3pm every afternoon. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Don’t forget to bring your library bag so we can take good care of all of our books.
Lost Property
Term 4 is also a great time to make sure that all of our belongings have names on them! Every day we find a new pile of ‘lost’ items. It is so very hard to return these to the right people if there are no names on them. Please check to see that all of your hats, jumpers, shoes, library bags, lunch boxes and drink bottles are clearly named with children’s first and last names, as well as their current classes. We’d love to reunite all of the lost things soon!
Have a fantastic week

Yr. 3-4 AFL Training Program
At Mango Hill State School, we have a program for students in Year 4-6 called the “AFLQ Schools Cup”. Each year a MHSS AFL boys and a girls’ team is selected with students completing training at school and then playing in the AFLQ Schools Cup competition throughout the year.
In Term 4 we will be running an optional afterschool 4-week training program for year 3 and 4 students to develop the skills (punting, handballing, marking….) as well as AFL game rules and awareness. We would like your son/daughter if in Year 3-4 to attend if they are interested.
Dates/Times: Tuesdays 3.00pm-4.00pm - 29 Oct, 5, 12, 19 Nov
Venue: MHSS Oval
Cost: Nil
Forms: If your son/daughter is interested, a permission form needs to be collected from Mr Hills in the PE Office and returned prior to the first session.
Activity Risk: This is a medium risk activity (risk assessment completed by Mango Hill State School staff). The program has been designed to teach skills and rules of AFL. There will be no tackling in all games and activities and instead a “touch” version will be played. Mouthguards are not compulsory for AFL training sessions but are recommended.
Equipment/Uniform: No equipment is required but it is advisable for students to wear a change of clothes if they like. Students can also provide their own protective equipment (mouthguards) and can wear football boots (no metal tags), but again this is optional. If they do not have football boots, normal shoes can be worn.
