Year 1 News by Rachael Beard
Welcome back!
Welcome back to school Year 1 families! I hope you all had a wonderful break and are ready for an exciting Term 4 ahead. It has been a pleasure getting to know the Year 1 students this week, and I’m excited to see all the wonderful learning and achievements that will take place in their classrooms over the course of their final term of Year 1!
Our English Unit is well underway and this term we will be exploring books from the Lighthouse Keeper series, identifying how the author uses the setting and a range of problems to create an interesting story. Students will then use some of these ideas to write their very own stories that have a similar setting but a new problem and solution. Telling stories is an important part of our daily lives as we recount events and experiences, and use these to entertain others.
Students have also been busy learning all about Australian coins. We are starting to understand the concept of money values, how to count money, and how to solve real-world money problems! It’s been fun to see some little shops popping up in many of our classrooms, with students earning classroom money to spend.
And finally, it has been wonderful to see so many students practising sun-safety this week! Let’s make sure we have our hats every day. We ask that you please ensure your child’s hat is clearly labelled so it will always find its way back to them.
