Dear Parents and Carers
It has been fantastic to see our students return to school with an excellent attitude after a well-earnt rest. It has been evident in the classroom and playground that students have been enacting the Four Cares – Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning and Care for the Environment.
With many excursions and incursions planned for Term 3, please remind your children to continue to demonstrate our 4 Cares and School Values to ensure safety, learning and enjoyment. It is a school wide expectation that students maintain the cares and values while participating in all excursions / incursions.
As we approach the end of the first week of school, students will be beginning to understand the ‘big purpose’ of their English Unit. Understanding the ‘big purpose’ of units is a critical step in learning. It helps the learner in both the receptive (listening, reading and viewing) and productive (speaking, writing and creating) modes of English. Teachers will continue to unpack this over the coming weeks to build the foundation for success.
Reporting
Today (Wed 10 July) you should receive your child’s Semester 1 Academic Report via email. If you did not receive the report card please check your junk mail and check with the school to make sure we have your correct contact details. Report cards are a reflection of a point in time. They provide an opportunity to celebrate the work students have put in during Semester 1 and an opportunity to create and work towards goals in Semester 2.
Keeping Safe
At Mango Hill State School student safety is our number 1 priority. At the end of Term 2 and the beginning of Term 3 we have had some correspondence regarding students being unsafe at local train stations and while riding home from school. Please ask your children to be safe while travelling to and from school including safety at train stations, riding safely on designated bike paths and keeping off community made bike jumps in the park, wearing a helmet, walking across pedestrian crossings and slowing down on electric scooters when overtaking others. When entering the bike and scooter cage at school please encourage your children to dismount and walk through the gates to help keep everyone safe. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Awards
Over the coming weeks year levels will hold their Semester 1 Awards Ceremony. If you child is receiving an award you will receive an email from the class teacher outlining the achievement and an invitation to attend the ceremony. Congratulations to all students who will receive Semester 1 awards in the coming weeks.
Term 3 Parent Overview Reminder
Kind Regards
Greg McCallum
Acting Principal
This week in Care Class we will be focusing on Care for Others by showing unconditional positive regard and by being respectful. Unconditional Positive Regard is showing you accept others for who they are. We are all part of Team Mango. We all play an important part in school/ in class/ in groups.
This week we will also be focusing on consistent predictable routines so we can be prepared for learning. It is important that we are in the right place at the right time.
NAIDOC week at Mango Hill State School
On the last Friday of Term 2, we celebrated NAIDOC Week as a whole school at Gigum Hall. Josh from the Mango Hill YMCA joined us, performing cultural dances and we learned the message of this year's NAIDOC Week: Keep the Fire Burning! We heard from two of our teachers, Katelyn Shanahan and Steph Drummond about what this year's theme means to them. We had our senior choir perform and our First Nations students and community members join in on the singing and dancing. This week our acknowledgememnt of First Nation's histories and cultures continues with optional lunchtime club options available and teachers sharing activities and learning in class.
P&C Trivia Night
Gather your teammates and your trivial knowledge and join us for our next exciting fundraising event, the P&C Trivia Night held in conjunction with Mango Hill State Secondary College. There are over $2000 worth of prizes on offer including for the winning table, best dressed prizes and fabulous raffles. There will be an opportunity to pre-purchase hot and cold grazing boxes, and it will be a licensed event. This is an adult only event. Tickets are only $20 per person. Purchase your tickets here : https://www.trybooking.com/CSVEU
P&C would like to give a shoutout to our key supporters for our upcoming Trivia Night to be held on 27 July 2024.

School Closed Reminders
School Parking Zones

Welcome back!
It has been delightful seeing our Prep friends return from the holidays, ready for another exciting term of learning ahead. Thank you for ensuring the children are in the correct uniform with black shoes, white socks, full formal and sports uniforms along with school jumpers.
Please check your class newsletters carefully to find information about the learning going on in classes this term. There are many ways you can support your child’s learning at home. For English, the following activities will go a long way to reinforce the learning going on at school: sharing stories, discussing characters and their feelings, making connections to own experiences and talking about likes and dislikes and the reasons for these. We will also be focussing on rhyme this term. Words that rhyme sound the same at the end of the word, for example carrot, parrot. You can have fun playing rhyming games at home, in the car or just about anywhere! You could play ‘I hear with my little ear, a word that rhymes with….’. It can take time for children to understand the concept of rhyme and hearing lots of rhyming words is helpful, nursery rhymes are perfect for this along with many great rhyming stories. Once your child can hear and identify words that rhyme, they will be ready to suggest words that rhyme with a given word by changing the word’s first sound. Happy rhyming!
Vision screeners
Forms came home this week with anyone who is not registered for a free vision screener. Please return these no later than this Friday 12 July to avoid missing out on this great opportunity.
Playgroup - Fridays 8.45-9.30 am
Playgroup re-commences on Friday this week in the Prep undercover area. If you have a little one age 0-5 years, come along for a play with friends. This week will be doing activities with Miss Livvy for NAIDOC week. See you there!
Prep 2025
Enrolment interviews commence this week for Prep 2025. If you have a child coming to Mango Hill for Prep next year, please submit your enrolment paperwork and book an interview as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting you and your child soon.

Welcome back to school, Team Mango Year 1. This term is going to be super fun!
We’ve got the Arts Fest to look forward to at the end of the term, new lunchtime clubs and games, our writing Bump It Up Walls to co-construct and new friends to make.
It’s going to be a big term!
A few early in the term reminders:
- All Year 1 teachers strongly encourage their students to unpack their own bags each morning. We really can do it by ourselves, mum and dad!
- Being at school every day, for the whole day, is vital. School time missed is learning time missed.
- iPads need to be checked by parents regularly, and updated. iPADs come to school switched off and fully charged. We don’t use our iPADs before or after school, on school grounds.
- We love to represent Team Mango by wearing the correct uniform, with pride. Please reach out if you’re missing a uniform piece and you need a friendly financial hand to help? School jumpers in this winter weather are a must.
- Each term for learning is a marathon, not a sprint! We need to pace ourselves and ensure good sleep, solid nutrition and time outdoors so we can be ready to be our best.
Happy Term 3! We’ve had a super start.

Welcome Back to Term 3!
Welcome back everyone! It was lovely seeing the Year 2’s smiling faces back at school after a wonderful two weeks of holidays. Over the last couple of days I have popped into all the Year 2 classrooms to catch up with the children to hear about their holiday adventures. In every classroom I visited, the children there had all grown a little bit taller and some were even sporting new haircuts! I heard all about adventures overseas, holidays at home, park plays, bike rides, trips to the movies, to the city and to theme parks.
These superstars from 2I were straight into writing recounts about their holidays.
This term is a busy one with lots of wonderful events happening. Please make sure you put the following dates in your diaries:

Report Cards
Report cards were emailed home today. They provide a great talking point for families to discuss with their children their strengths and celebrations as well as next steps. Report cards also provide a great opportunity to talk about effort and applying a growth mindset to new challenges and new learning.

Welcome!
The whole Year 3 team are so excited to be back at school for Term 3. We have heard lots of action-packed holiday stories and we have been amazed at how much taller all of our Year 3 friends look.
Learning in Year 3
Our learning started on Day 1 of course. This term, we will read Kumiko and the Dragon, and inspired by the author, Year 3 students will become authors and continue the storyline with events, characters and a mood that is engaging. Your child’s Semester 1 report will be emailed home today. Please reach out to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions once you have read the report.
Hats please
Each and every day, students should wear their hats to and from school and at each break. Some Year 3 students report that they have misplaced their hat or that they are forgetting to wear it to school. Could you please help us by doing a “stocktake” to ensure your child still has their hat.
Awards Ceremony
Next Friday 19 July, is the big day for the Year 3 Awards Ceremony starting at 8:45 am. You will have received an email invitation if your child is receiving an award. Of course, all parents are welcome to attend.

Learning in Year 4
Our Year 4 students have had an excellent start back at school! I’ve seen lots of smiling faces both in and out of the classroom with friends reunited and new students to welcome.
Moving around our classes this week I have seen lots of new learning happening. This week, Year 4 have started learning about fractions - recognising equivalence between fractions and locating them on number lines. It is fantastic to see some of the knowledge that the students already have!
Hats please
Each and every day, students should wear their hats to and from school and at each break. Some Year 4 students report that they have misplaced their hat or that they are forgetting to wear it to school. Could you please help us by doing a “stocktake” to ensure your child still has their hat.

Welcome back
We have had a great start to the term with students settling back into the school routine well. Students are beginning to get excited for the Year 5 camp in Week 2 and Week 3 and I am looking forward to joining in the fun for a few days. We will continue to discuss the importance of following our 4 Cares and school values in the lead up to camp.
4 Cares
Care for Self
Care for Others
Care for Learning
Care for the Environment
We Value:
Excellence
Commitment
Respect
Teamwork
Please remember to carefully check items required for camp. It can get quite cool so please remember to pack enough warm clothes and bedding.
Please spend some time this week ensuring you are aware of all the camp requirements including if students require medication.
Academic Achievement
This term in English, students will investigate a range of narrative poems as they investigate the ways in which poets use language features and poetic devices to share a story about Australia and Australians. They will use the perspective of a character from a familiar poem to write a literary description, and develop their speaking and listening skills as they present some favourite poems.
In Maths, students will continue patterns by adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions and decimals and will find unknown quantities in number sentences. They will measure and construct different angles and connect 3-D objects with their 2-D representations. Students will also investigate the ideas of symmetry and transformation, describe transformations of 2-D shapes and investigate probability and chance.
If you have any enquiries, please feel welcome to contact the class teacher or you can reach me via the office.

Welcome to Term 3
It’s been a fantastic few days back at school for our Year 6 students. For 4 of our classes, that has involved going to camp at Tallebudgera. For the remaining classes, they are working hard at getting their new units of work started, as the excitement for their camps in Week 2 and 3 draw closer.
Term 3 is another very busy term for our students, with the following events and activities to look forward to:
- Camp
- Interschool sport
- Awards ceremony
- Arts Fest
- High school transition days.
Camp
Our first group of campers left for Tallebudgera on Monday morning and have been having a wonderful time! Year 6 camp at Tallebudgera is always a highlight in the year for our students. They learn a lot about themselves through the activities they do, which require and promote teamwork, leadership and independence.
The smiling faces in the photos say it all!

Report Cards
All student report cards have been emailed home to families this afternoon. If you have not received your child’s report card, please let me know by email: bxmil3@eq.edu.au .
I always enjoy reading student report cards and celebrating their successes from Semester 1. Some students will be receiving a semester award at our awards ceremony on Monday 5August for their academic achievement, effort and application, or improvement made during the semester. Your child’s teacher will email you before the end of the week if they are receiving an award.
Attendance
Every day counts. Across the school, we are setting a goal for all students to attend school greater than 90% of the time. This means missing no more than 1 day of school each fortnight. Consistent attendance makes a significant difference to children’s confidence at school. The more consistently they attend, the less gaps in their learning, and the stronger their connection with peers.
If you are concerned about your child’s attendance and would like support in this space, do not hesitate to reach out to myself or your child’s classroom teacher.
Transition to High School Survey
We are collecting data on which high school students are attending in 2025. This is to help us plan ahead for the remainder of the semester with transition for all students. Please complete the survey even if you have not enrolled your child into a high school for 2025. The survey should take no longer than 2 minutes to complete. Please complete this by Friday 3pm.

Term 3 Curriculum
Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting term of learning! Each term is a great time to reset and to begin with an open mind about all of the learning opportunities that are ahead of us. This term students will continue their learning in each of the Learning Areas including English, Maths, Science, Technologies, Humanities and Social Science (HASS), The Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Italian. Term 3 learning includes a focus on Health, where students from Prep to Year 6 will continue varying aspects about maintaining a health life. The attached Curriculum Overview provides further information about each of the year levels and the topics that will be studied.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
The beginning of the term is also a great time to set some new goals for AR. Perhaps this term students will aim for a particular number of words, or to reach a particular level?
Late last term, some of our eager AR readers reached their previous goals. Reyansh completed all of the AR levels, successfully quizzing up to AR 9.0; Jade read 1 million words in AR; and this week Leah read 2 million words! We are so very proud of each of these students and have added photos of the Millionaire Readers to our special AR display in the Hub. Congratulations Reyansh, Jade and Leah!

Premier’s Reading Challenge
Don’t worry if you haven’t started yet… there is still plenty of time to join in the Premier’s Reading Challenge! Use the attached form to record all of the books that you have read and return to the Hub by the 23 August. All participants will receive a certificate signed by the Premier.
Celebrating NAIDOC week
This week in the Hub we are proud to have on display a fabulous range of items from the QLD Museum showcasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Pop on down and have a look soon! The Hub is open every day from 8.15am and until 3pm every afternoon.

Have a fantastic week
