Principal's News by Greg McCallum
Dear Parents and Carers
It has been fantastic to see our students return to school with an excellent attitude after a well-earnt rest. It has been evident in the classroom and playground that students have been enacting the Four Cares – Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning and Care for the Environment.
With many excursions and incursions planned for Term 3, please remind your children to continue to demonstrate our 4 Cares and School Values to ensure safety, learning and enjoyment. It is a school wide expectation that students maintain the cares and values while participating in all excursions / incursions.
As we approach the end of the first week of school, students will be beginning to understand the ‘big purpose’ of their English Unit. Understanding the ‘big purpose’ of units is a critical step in learning. It helps the learner in both the receptive (listening, reading and viewing) and productive (speaking, writing and creating) modes of English. Teachers will continue to unpack this over the coming weeks to build the foundation for success.
Reporting
Today (Wed 10 July) you should receive your child’s Semester 1 Academic Report via email. If you did not receive the report card please check your junk mail and check with the school to make sure we have your correct contact details. Report cards are a reflection of a point in time. They provide an opportunity to celebrate the work students have put in during Semester 1 and an opportunity to create and work towards goals in Semester 2.
Keeping Safe
At Mango Hill State School student safety is our number 1 priority. At the end of Term 2 and the beginning of Term 3 we have had some correspondence regarding students being unsafe at local train stations and while riding home from school. Please ask your children to be safe while travelling to and from school including safety at train stations, riding safely on designated bike paths and keeping off community made bike jumps in the park, wearing a helmet, walking across pedestrian crossings and slowing down on electric scooters when overtaking others. When entering the bike and scooter cage at school please encourage your children to dismount and walk through the gates to help keep everyone safe. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Awards
Over the coming weeks year levels will hold their Semester 1 Awards Ceremony. If you child is receiving an award you will receive an email from the class teacher outlining the achievement and an invitation to attend the ceremony. Congratulations to all students who will receive Semester 1 awards in the coming weeks.
