News from our Partners

Dear Team Mango
I can’t believe how fast the term has progressed. We are at the tail end of it. This week our Year 3 and 5 students commence the NAPLAN assessment. I remind all parents/caregivers not to become anxious or nervous about NAPLAN. We know students will do their best. Although it’s nice to do well, the assessment doesn’t define our students. Thank you to associated staff involved in NAPLAN we appreciate all your extras. Thank you also to Mrs Rivett for coordinating our school's organisation of NAPLAN.
Thank you to all parents/caregivers who attended our P&C AGM and general meeting on Monday. I would like to take this time to thank our 2023 P&C executive team, Amy, Melissa, Redikah and Yanti for their dedication and hard work. I’m pleased to announce our 2024 P&C executive as follows.
President - Amy Swalwell
Vice President - Melissa Travers
Secretary - TBA
Treasurer - Casey Bean
Unfortunately not all executive positions were filled during the AGM. Our P&C relies on volunteers if you are able to assist please contact Jasmine Benfer- jbenf10@eq.edu.au.
Parent Teacher interviews commence soon. If you are yet to book an interview, I encourage all parents/caregivers to make a time with their child’s class teacher. These interviews provide important updates pertaining to academic and social and emotional information about your child. They also send a powerful message to students outlining the important partnerships parents and teachers share in educating the whole child.
Please see below link to book your child's Parent Teacher Interview
https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70371
Please note that booking for these interviews will close this Friday, 15 March at 9am to give our teachers time to prepare for the interviews.
School photos will commence next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All students must be dressed in full school formal uniform. This includes formal shirt or blouse, formal shorts or skort, full black shoes including laces and white socks. Students with hair shoulder length or longer must have hair tied up.
Please find below the school photo schedule.

This week in Care Class we will be focusing on Care for Self by developing resilience. Resilience is generally regarded as the ability to cope with and bounce back after adversity. This can extend from day-to-day challenges through to life changing events. Being resilient doesn’t mean not finding things difficult or not getting upset. It means being able to deal with things that are difficult and move on.
At Mango Hill State School, we have a variety of ways to celebrate success including the following.
- Student of the Week - On Virtual Parade each Friday a Student of the Week is recognised and receives a certificate linked to the school values: Commitment, Excellence, Teamwork, Respect and Innovation.
- Golden Tickets - Golden Tickets are handed out to students who are demonstrating the care class focus of the week or one of the school’s cares (Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning or Care for School Environment).
- SOLE postcards - Once a week postcards are delivered for a person showing the focus of the term (Team Mango Cares).
Learning in Prep
Some of our Prep classes recently hosted ‘learning walks and talks.’ This involves members of the Prep and Leadership team going into classrooms and talking to the students about their learning. Children were asked questions including what are you learning, how are you going, how do you know, what’s your next step and where do you get help. The visitors were very impressed at the way our Prep learners shared their work and explained their learning including the big purpose – drawing pictures to share our ideas (about events), including what they were working on to improve their work. Thank you to our learners in Prep V, T, B and K for talking with the visitors and explaining our English work this term.
Here’s an exciting example of an event in Prep K, a volcano experiment! After the event, children drew a picture to share their ideas of what happened using details and labels. Amazing work Prep K!

Attendance
Every day matters at school and especially in Prep. This is because learning in Prep lays the foundations for learning thoughout schooling. Attending every day means your child does not miss content, experiences or opportunities to connect with teachers and friends. If your child is unwell, they should stay home and rest. If your child is well, please make sure they are at school so we can keep on learning!

Year 1 Incursion
Last week we experienced the Good Things Come in Threes live theatre puppet show. For some of our Year 1 friends, live theatre isn’t something they are super familiar with. When we experience live theatre, we learn about communication and audience manners. We enjoy the experience of a live performance. And then we get to communicate with our families and friends after the performance!
There’s alot of free and low cost events that occur over the school holidays. Check out the local community pages, the council pages and the cultural centre pages for details. The art gallery and GOMA always have interactive activities for school holidays.
The Good Things Come in Threes incursion was designed to assist our Year 1s with their retell narrative unit of work. We are wrapping up this unit and we’re excited to see how our students have settled into Year 1 writing routines for this year. They are writing longer texts, developing writing stamina, developing cohesion and idea development and trying to make their writing interesting to read to their audience.

Speaking and Listening in Year 2
Often when we think about learning in English, we think of reading and writing. While these skills are important, when we teach English, we also focus on developing children’s knowledge, understanding and skills in listening and speaking.
This term our Year 2s have been reading and listening to a range of poems. Students have then collaborated to innovate and create new poems.
Over the next three weeks, the children will be sharing their poems and discussing them in small groups. They will also have an opportunity to practise active listening by asking questions of the presenters and providing them with feedback.
Check out these superstars from 2F practising their speaking and listening roles.

Welcome Mrs Bertram
This week we welcomed Mrs Melanie Bertram to the Year 2 team as our Inclusive Learning Teacher. Mrs Bertram will replace Mrs Nada Tanner who has accepted a position acting as Head of Special Education at Bald Hills State School.
Mrs Bertram comes to Year 2 with a wealth of experience which our students will undoubtedly benefit from. You can’t miss Mrs Bertram as she always has a big, beautiful smile on her face when she’s walking around the school! Please make sure you say hello to her if you see her in your travels.

Year 3 is Ready to be Their Best During Specialist Lessons
Our care focus of the week has highlighted how we can be ready for our wonderful specialist lessons we have at Mango Hill State School. Our students have revisited our specialist rules and how they can follow the Four Cares across Italian, Technology, Physical Education, Dance and Music.
How clever are our students! In technology our students have been planning an interactive game. Miss O’Connor and students in 3K have recently drafted ‘would you rather’ questions about some yummy foods. I can’t wait to see these games come to life.

Italian Mask Making
This week, our Year 4 students have loved making their masks during Italian lessons. Our students have been using language to explore the celebration of Carnevale and have discovered the significance of cultural practices of Carnevale, including the costumes. Have a look at some of our students' fabulous creations.

Solid Pathways
This term, some of our First Nations students have been participating in Solid Pathways. They have been focussing on Project Sustainability, undertaking experiments to investigates materials and their biodegradability. They have been discussing the 3R's reduce, reuse and recycle. Wellbeing - Cyber Safety Talk
On Monday, Year 5 students were involved in a Cyber Safety Talk conducted by the Queensland Police Service.
With students accessing iPads at school, gaming at home and a variety of mobile devices it is vital students know how to use communication devices appropriately, know the risks and how to ask for help when experiencing problems.
The esafety website has accurate information and current resources to help families and children to safely navigate the online world. For more information, please follow the link. https://www.esafety.gov.au/
Examples include the following.
Academic Achievement
This week it was great to see the amazing work 5F were doing during LOTE (Italian).
Students have been learning the language associated with like / dislike. Students have been working collaboratively to unpack key words to enable them to respond appropriately. The students were definitely doing better than I was (non so parlare italiano).

Learning in Year 6
This week, I was able to spend some time in 6K as they solved real-world problems involving area. To conclude the learning episode, Mrs Robinson tasked all of 6K to design a bathroom with a given area, that included 3 different-sized tiles. I was given the privilege of identifying the best design that fit the given criteria. I was blown away by the creativity and innovation on display. The are some future interior designers and / or building designers within 6K!
Mango Mentors
Congratulations to our newest Mango Mentors Lily B, Stephanie, Jeordi B and Scarlett P. Another very deserving group of students who are excellent role models for our Team Mango community!

Parliament House Excursion
This week, all of our Year 6 students have visited Parliament House as a part of their Term 1 HASS unit. In this unit of work, students have been exploring the following inquiry questions:
- What are the roles and responsibilities of the different levels of government in Australia?
- How are laws developed in Australia?
- What ideas do we have that could be turned into laws?
- Who are our members of parliament and how do we connect with them?
At Parliament House, students learned about the roles and responsibilities of different levels of government and about how laws are developed. What a wonderful first-hand experience for students to visit Parliament House as a part of this learning. Thank you to our staff and parents who supported on the excursion.
Dance Curriculum Workshop
Tomorrow, our Year 5 and 6 students will participate in a dance workshop with Dance Curriculum. This workshop opportunity was awarded to our school following our student leaders' participation at their recent Halogen Leader’s conference.
Dance Curriculum’s mission is to inspire as many children as possible to fall in love with learning.
School Photos
Next week, we have our school photos held in Wandani. In addition to class photos, many of our students are also involved additional groups for photos include Instrumental Music, Eisteddfod Team, Choir and Student Leaders.

Hub Happenings
Don’t forget that there is still plenty of time this term to set some reading goals. You might like to reach a specific AR level, read a number of books or strive for a million words.
The Hub is open every morning from 8.15am and until 3pm every afternoon, and we are always happy to help find the perfect book. See you soon!
Have a fantastic week
