Dear Parents and Carers
I hope everyone managed to have some time to relax and recharge for what is going to be a very busy and action-packed Term 4.
I’m currently working myself around the school talking to students about making the most of Term 4. I have asked all students to think about how they can be the best version of themselves in all aspects of school. This involves the Four Cares – Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning and Care for the Environment. As a school, we will continue to teach students about what the Four Cares look like and encourage students to practise these in all aspects of their life. The Four Cares set our students up to be ‘good’ people. I’d encourage you to talk to your child about what the Four Cares may look like at home. This is a great way to highlight to our students how the school and families work together. It provides an opportunity for students to see the connection between home and school.
This week our Prep, Year 1 and Year 3 students commence swimming. I’m sure all students will find this enjoyable. Thank you to parents/carers for their organisation by ensuring your child is prepared for each of their lessons.
Some teachers are still continuing parent teacher interviews over the next two weeks. If you haven’t been able to connect with your child’s class teacher, I encourage you to make a time during the next fortnight.
Next week our Year 4 students will be attending camp. As a mum, I know how confronting the first school camp was for me and my children. I encourage our parents to be brave and ease any possible anxious feelings your child may have. Camps are a fantastic opportunity to build greater independence and develop deeper friendships across the year level.
A reminder there is a Year 6 Graduation Committee meeting on Thursday from 5.00 – 6.00 pm in the Wandani Centre.
Netball Success
Over the recent school holidays Mango Hill State School entered 2 teams in the Netball QSchools Primary Cup. Our teams competed against many other Queensland primary schools over a weekend carnival.
We are so proud of the sportsmanship, commitment and excellence that our teams displayed over the weekend playing a total of 14 games each team.
The Green team placed 39th and the Blue team placed 41st out of 64 teams in our competition division. Our teams enjoy the tough competition and improved on their skills all weekend.
A big thank you to Ms Faulkner and Miss Hodges who gave up many hours preparing our students during after school training sessions and giving up time on their holidays to coach the teams at the competition. We would also like to thank the parents who made this possible for our students.
Go Team Mango!

Term 4 Parent Overview

Loud Shirt Day
End of Year Concert
The Care Class focus that will be delivered this Friday is ‘Respect’. We will be consolidating this focus the following week in classrooms.
Respect means that you accept somebody for who they are, even when they’re different from you or you don’t agree with them. Respect for others is only one piece of the puzzle and having respect for ourselves is also just as important.
During Care Class and throughout the following week, students will have multiple opportunities to consolidate this concept and build trust, safety and wellbeing into their relationships.

Big Smiles
It has been fantastic seeing the big smiles on our Prep student's faces as we return to the classroom for a wonderful final term ahead. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the excitement on our student's faces as they see their classroom teachers and friends, sharing lots of holiday adventures and stories of their two-week break.
This term in our writing we are learning to create a written text that continues the storyline of a picture book with several new events. To do this well, we will be learning to create sentences that show how the character is feeling and what the character says. We will be entertaining others with our detailed events for a story. When reading with our students at home you could ask them to predict what the next events in the story could be!
Have a great week

Swimming
There were at least two students I didn't recognise yesterday... after not seeing them for two weeks. They were so much taller than they were two weeks ago! With their new haircuts, and their newfound Year 1 swagger confidence, I was reminded that we're gearing up for the end of their second year of school.
Our first swimming lesson went swimmingly yesterday. Thank you to all parents for ensuring our students had what they needed to participate. Part of the joy of swimming, is the bus ride, the changing into and out of togs, the comraderie... it's not just about the actual swimming! It's about the adventure to and from.
Over the holidays, I hope you managed to enjoy some quality time with your children, exploring and adventuring. We managed lots of beach time, with some new games thrown in. We've embraced Top Trumps (the Star Wars version) and Bananagrams. We've also discovered a new audio book series - Percy Jackson - all about Greek Gods and adventure. We're obsessed and into the middle of the third book in the series already.
Reading, is reading, is reading. All reading helps our students, whether it's graphic novels, signs, listening to stories, reading picture books (don't put any of these away just yet, we still love our picture books!). The more words we read, the more words we know. As we move through Term 4 and into the longest holiday break, now is a great time to continue to develop those home routines about reading and enjoying texts - for joy! Listen to those audio books during car trips. Embrace those picture books. Model that love for reading and books to our children.
Have a great week

Welcome to Term 4!
Term 4 has arrived. This is always such an exciting term as we focus on teaching and learning including Year 3 swimming lessons. At the same time, our staff are also preparing students for their transition to 2024. The final two weeks of term will be particularly momentous, with Year 3 attending their first swimming carnival, performing at the Carols by Candlelight, celebrating at our Year 3 awards ceremony and meeting their 2024 class teacher and classmates.
Learning in Year 3
Our learning always starts on Day 1 each term. Students are reading and writing poems this term, so prepare to be impressed by your child’s ideas and creativity as the term goes on! Across the term, students will consolidate their understanding in number including money. As always, our teachers and staff collaborate closely together on this teaching.
Hats please! Each and every day, students should wear their hats to and from school and at each break. Some Year 3 students report that they have misplaced their hat or that they are forgetting to wear it to school. Could you please help us by doing a “stocktake” to ensure your child still has their hat.
Swimming! Today is our first day of six days (Wednesday of Week 1-6) of Swimming lessons. In 2022 and 2023, our Principal liaised with pool management at Grace Pool to ensure clear communication and to assist staff of Grace Pool in learning a little bit about our students.
Please let your child’s class teacher know of any concerns during swimming so we can work with your child, you and Grace Pool to resolve any worries. A reminder that you are welcome to visit swimming lessons but need to have advised your child’s class teacher of your intention so to do. Other guidelines for parents at swimming were published in an email from Ms Padgett at the end of Term 4.
Finally, I want to share a few snaps from our final day of Term 3 when classes hosted parents at the Stay and Play. So many smiles …

Take care and have a wonderful week

Year 4 News!
Welcome back to Term 4 and what a great start we’ve had to the term! It was wonderful to see our students return to school with big smiles and excitement about their final term in Year 4. I have enjoyed hearing lots of exciting holiday stories.
While visiting classrooms over the first two days of term, I have seen teachers working with students to have a clear understanding of the Maths and Writing scales for their next units of work. I have seen our students starting their persuasive writing unit in English, money unit in Maths along with lots of number facts practice! Our students have participated in a range of activities to unpack the big purpose of these units of work and identify what they need to do to achieve 3 or 4 stars on their scales. We have been able to celebrate some wonderful results across Year 4 last term. I can’t wait to see this continue throughout this term.

Camp at Runaway Bay
Camp is just around the corner and I know the excitement is building for all of our students. Now is a great time to plan everything that the students need for camp and to finalise medication forms. Remember to check-in with your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions and refer back to the camp notes sent out from last term.
Have a wonderful week

Welcome back for Term 4!
It is hard to believe that our school is entering the final term for the year. It was a pleasure getting into classrooms yesterday to hear students and teachers prepare for a successful term.
Our Year 5 teachers are busy reconnecting with students, re-introducing our student wellbeing actions in classes and starting teaching and learning from Day 1. This term our students will be working on a ‘Market Day’ unit for Maths. During the term students will earn points that they convert to ‘Mango Hill dollars’ to spend on products that they develop. You will receive further information on this unit from your child’s teacher soon. It is an exciting opportunity for our students to apply their maths skills and learning to engage in a real-world context. I’m already looking forward to the culminating event of Market Day towards the end of term.

Welcome back!
It was wonderful to see all of our students back at school on Tuesday morning. In Year 6, it is a particularly exciting term, being their last one of primary school. We have lots of events to look forward to this term including the swimming carnival and school concert (the last one at MHSS for our Year 6 students). We will also finish the year with our awards ceremony and Year 6 Graduation, which I know, many of our students can’t wait for! Our Graduation Committee will have their first meeting of the term tomorrow night to continue planning for the big night!
There was no time wasted on Day 1 and 2 of Term 4, with students unpacking their Marking Guides to understand how to be successful in their English and Maths units this term. I know the Year 6 teachers are working hard to set the students up for a successful final term of primary school!

Transitions to secondary school
At the end of last term, many of our students had their first transition day at their secondary school for 2024. With the majority of students attending MHSSC, some of our teachers attended this transition with our students.
This term, there will continue to be some transition events occurring, including additional school visits and our own ‘high school week’, later in the term.
If your child is yet to be enrolled into their high school for 2024 and you require support, please let your child’s class teacher know or contact me at bxmil3@eq.edu.au .
Have a great week

Term 4 is such a great time to consolidate our learnings from the earlier terms, and also learn a few more things! This term our students from Prep to Year 6 will continue their learnings in Health, as well as in all of the other learning areas – English, Maths, Science, Technology, HASS, HPE, Italian and The Arts. The Curriculum Overview for Term 4 provides an overview of all the new things we have to look forward to!
Hub Happenings
We have been very excited to see lots of students visiting the Hub again this week. The Hub is open every morning from 8am and until 3pm every afternoon. This is a great time to borrow a book or even do an AR quiz. Look at these eager readers, quizzing yesterday afternoon.

For those having trouble accessing AR, here is the updated QR code. AR can be accessed from the school wi-fi between 8am and 3pm.
Have a fantastic week

Year 3-4 AFL Training Program
At Mango Hill State School, we have a program for students in Year 4-6 called the “AFLQ Schools Cup”. Each year a MHSS AFL boys and a girl’s team is selected with students completing training at school and then playing in the AFLQ Schools Cup competition throughout the year.
In Term 4 we will be running an optional afterschool 4-week training program for year 3 and 4 students to develop the skills (punting, handballing, marking….) as well as AFL game rules and awareness. We would like your son/daughter if in Year 3-4 to attend if they are interested.
Dates/Times: Tuesdays 3.00pm-4.00pm - 31 Oct, 7, 14, 21 Nov
Venue: MHSS Oval
Cost: Nil
Forms: If your son/daughter is interested, a permission form needs to be collected from Mr Hills in the PE Office and returned prior to the first session.
Activity Risk: This is a medium risk activity (risk assessment completed by Mango Hill State School staff in conjunction with AFL QLD employees). The program has been designed to teach skills and rules of AFL. There will be no tackling in all games and activities and instead a “touch” version will be played. Mouthguards are not compulsory for AFL training sessions, but are recommended.
Equipment/Uniform: No equipment is required but it is advisable for students to wear a change of clothes if they like. Students can also provide their own protective equipment (mouthguards) and can wear football boots (no metal tags), but again this is optional. If they do not have football boots, normal shoes can be worn.
