Planning for 2023
We are busy planning facilities, resources and staffing for the 2023 school year. Our enrolments have been fairly steady for the past 18 months and we anticipate we will have around 1570 students in 2023. We will have 8 -10 classes in each year level.
If you have a child due to start Prep in 2023, please contact the office as soon as possible. Our prep interviews, information sessions, tours and transitions are happening now.
If you have any matters you would like us to consider for your child’s class placement in 2023, please complete the Class Considerations Form (below) and return to Jasmine Benfer jbenf10@eq.edu.au by Thursday 27 October.
If your child will not be returning to MHSS in 2023, could you please let us know so we can ensure our staffing and resources are as accurate as possible. Please email enrolments@mangohillss.eq.edu.au with this information. Thanks for your assistance.

both sessions will be held in our Wandani Centre. Please join us at either session if you are having any troubles connecting or are yet to connect.
The Care Class focus that will be delivered this Friday is ‘Mental Health”. We will be consolidating this focus throughout next week.
Throughout week 2, teachers will be teaching students about mental health. The timing of our focus aligns with Queensland Mental Health Week which is an annual event held from 8-16 October 2022. We will be celebrating the week by sharing information about mental health and wellbeing. This aims to improve community awareness and interest in mental health and wellbeing across the state.
The theme for this year is “Take Time – for Mental Health” and focuses on six simple actions we can take to improve our moods, build resilience, and boost wellbeing. These actions are to take time to
- Get Healthy
- Keep Learning
- Show Kindness
- Connect
- Take Notice and
- Embrace Nature.
As parents and carers, you play an important role in your child’s mental health
- Talk to your child about why looking after their mental health is important
- Browse through the resources on the QMHW website.

Personal Project – Walking in my Artist’s Shoes
Congratulations to Eli from Prep J who was our award winner for this year’s Personal Project – Walking in my Artist’s Shoes.
Eli was inspired by Australian artist CJ Hendry as he loved the creative ways in which she showcased her art work. Thank you for sharing her story with us Eli.

What an exciting first day back yesterday!
We had our very first swimming lesson. We were all so excited about the bus ride and going to the pool. Thank you to our parents and carers for making sure we had everything we needed to be successful.
Yes, swimming lessons are about learning to swim. But like everything we do, there’s so much incidental learning that goes with it. We learn about road safety and how to enter and exit a bus. We learn about water safety and how to enter and exit the pool safely. We learn to listen to the different swimming instructors. We have to take care of our own belongings and change ourselves without losing anything (a real life skill!). And more than anything else, we have the opportunity to build relationships with our teachers and peers by experiencing something new together.
We also jumped right back into our classroom learning! This week we are back into our reading groups, we’ve unpacked our writing task and we’ve talked about our school value of respect and what it means to be respectful.

Learning in Year 2
Welcome to Term 4! Our team of teachers, teacher aides and I are so excited for the term ahead and making the most of these 10 weeks with our students. Year 2 students have already started learning about narratives, considering how they are constructed with interesting characters, problems and solutions. Students will use mind mapping to generate and select ideas to use in their own narrative with links to a particular picture book. This week we are focusing on “Where the Forest meets the Sea”. I have included a few photos of students working together to reconstruct a narrative.
In Math, students are learning about money and will then move on to time. Throughout this, students will be exploring seasons and calendars. These areas very much lend themselves to real life and incidental learning. Please take any opportunities that arise to have your child compare amounts of money or count small collections of money. If you use a calendar at home, please show your child and allow them to add a few important dates … maybe swimming lessons!
Swimming in Year 2
A reminder that swimming starts this Thursday and continues each week until Thursday of Week 6. All teachers have sent home information regarding swimming and what your child will require. If you are yet to provide any paperwork or other documentation please contact your child’s teacher urgently.
Attendance
It is so important for your child to attend school as much as possible. We understand that there are times when students are unwell. However, if you are having difficulty getting your child to school for other reasons, we want to support you. Please let your child’s teacher know of any concerns so we can work together to maximise your child’s attendance.
Take care and have a wonderful week

Welcome back!
So wonderful to see everyone back in class and ready to learn. Classrooms were filled with lots of smiling faces and excited students ready to share their holiday stories with their teacher and friends.
Ready to learn about poetry
To begin our week students worked with their teacher to brainstorm what the purpose of their poetry unit was, making links to prior learning and personal experiences. Students were eager to share their thinking and wonderings as they started to look at their scales and goals for the new term. It was great hearing and seeing students making their thinking visible as they began to develop a deep understanding of what a 3 star poem might look like and sound like compared to a 4 star poem. I can’t wait to read their poems later in the term!

Have a great week

Term 4 is underway!
What a great start to the term we’ve had in Year 4! It’s always wonderful to see our students returning to school after a holiday. They loved catching up with their friends and diving back into the learning.
While visiting classrooms over the first two days of term, I have seen teachers working with students to have a clear understanding of the Maths and Writing scales for their next unit of work. Students have participated in a range of activities to unpack the big purpose of these units of work and identify what they need to do to achieve 3 or 4 stars on their scales. I know many students have already started to set their goals for this term too.
Camp at Runaway Bay
Camp is just around the corner and I know the excitement is building for all of our students. Now is a great time to plan everything that the students need for camp and to finalise medication forms. Remember to check-in with your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions and refer back to the camp notes sent out from last term.
Term 4 focus – Respect
This term’s schoolwide focus is on ‘Respect’. Across the school, staff will be looking for opportunities to recognise examples of how students have demonstrated respect towards staff, students and themselves. You can support us to teach this important school value by asking your children each day how they showed respect. What a great way to begin a conversation about their day at school!

Have a super week

Welcome to Term 4!
It is hard to believe that we are in our final term of 2022. For our Year 6 students this is an exciting pinnacle of their time at primary school. They will enjoy a range of events that form part of our transition work to secondary school including a range of transition excursions as well as our Year 6 Graduation Dinner. For our Year 5 students, this is an important term in which we start to elect our student leaders for 2023. I look forward to connecting with students from both year levels as we engage in this work. This week has been a such a positive start to the term. I had the pleasure of visiting 5P on Tuesday as they commenced their Science unit. Students in 5P engaged in an investigation to spark their curiosity as they begin their learning of light. It was amazing to see how engaged the students were. Great start to Term 4 5P!

AR Millionaires
Hopefully all of our AR readers have had a chance to read over the holidays. We look forward to seeing them in the Hub in the coming weeks to complete some quizzes. Don’t forget that the beginning of a term is a great time to set some goals for AR. Will you try to reach a specific level? Will you try to read a certain number of books? Will you try to reach 1 million words? Pop on down to the Hub is you would like help to find a book or two to help you reach your goals.
On the very last day of Term 3 we had two very eager AR readers reach their goals. Firstly, Kaylee reached 1 million words, and as you can see from her smile she was very excited. This is a fabulous achievement and we are very proud of her!
Avery was also very excited to complete a quiz on the last Friday of the term. That quiz pushed her word count to 5 million words! This is an extraordinary milestone and it makes Avery one of a very small handful of Mango Hill students who have ever reached this level. What a fabulous reader!
Congratulations to both Kaylee and Avery. We will definitely add your photo to our special AR display in the Hub.
