Term 1 Week 6 2022

Team Mango Spirit
I was so proud of the Team Mango spirit this week. On Monday we had 10 classrooms that had some flooding and there was lots of water and mud in the corridors of M3 block and in the outside covered areas in the school. I put out a call for staff and we had 13 fantastic staff members come straight in to assist. I was also inundated with offers of help from the community. Thank you to each and every person who offered their time, kind words and support. The 5P classroom is still quite wet so we have relocated them and will likely need to replace the carpet and some furniture in the coming weeks. Thanks to Mrs Peno for setting up her new room and remaining positive.
Our shade sail was torn and we have a few other repairs however, compared to may others, we were very lucky. I know many families have found the last few days very challenging. Our thoughts are with you. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if we can assist in anyway.
It was fantastic to have the children back at school today. They delight me with their excitement and resilience after a bumpy start to the year!

COVID Restrictions easing
This Friday evening COVID restrictions will ease. This means next week at school the following changes will occur
- All parents are welcome back on site. You may like to grab a coffee from the SOLE Café at drop off!
- Masks will not be required (although some staff, parents and students may choose to wear them).
- Assemblies, excursions and other special events can resume.
It is still important that adults maintain social distance and everyone prioritises hygiene. If you, or your child are unwell, please stay home and get tested! We want to minimise the spread in our community.
Parent Connections
Now that COVID restrictions are easing, we have a number of special events over the next few weeks that parents are invited to attend.
Stay & Play
We are excited to introduce our ‘Stay & Play’ afternoons. These afternoons are an opportunity for families to meet and connect with others, chat with the teachers on the year level and allow the children an extra play. I hope you can make it!
Team Mango Meet Up
Every Friday morning from 11 March, we invite all parents and carers to join members of the leadership team for coffee each Friday morning from 8.30-9.00am at the SOLE Cafe. The P & C have donated funds for this weekly event to ‘shout a coffee’. This is a great chance to meet other parents and raise ideas or concerns with school leaders. I hope you can pop in for a chat!
Gate to Fantail
We’ve added ‘Please Shut the Gate’ signs to this gate to remind all pedestrians to please close this gate.
We would appreciate all parents and students being very vigilant in this, as our youngest students settle into school and learn the rules of safety. We ask that you slide the bolt across too, thus making it difficult for very small children to easily open without a parent present. Thank you for supporting all of our Team Mango students.
Playgroup
Our playgroup will return next Friday morning, March 11. We hold our playgroup each Friday morning from 9 am - 10 am during school terms, meeting in our Prep covered area space. Miss Livvy is our wonderful playgroup facilitator; she’s super friendly and welcoming! All children from birth to school age are welcome to attend with a parent. Coffee shop on site! We’d love to see you.
Student Leader Badge Ceremony
We will have a parade for all year 3-6 students on Friday 11 March at 8.45-9.30am. All parents are welcome to attend. At this parade, we will introduce our 2022 school captains, other captains and leaders and student councillors.
National Day of Action Against Bullying
On Friday 18 March we will join together to take a stand on the National Day of Action against Bullying! Students are encouraged to wear something orange and donate a gold coin. The Student Council will be leading activities on the day and have chosen to donate all funds raised to the Smith Family to help families in need. Prep to Year 2 students will have a parade at 8.30am. Parents are welcome to attend this parade.
We are excited to be able to have all parents back on site. We look forward to connecting with you and forming a strong partnership to help every student succeed!
Have a wonderful week

Prep Social and Emotional Learning Program
At Mango Hill State School our Student Welfare Officer delivers a Social and Emotional Learning Program to all our Prep classes at different stages during Term 1 and Term 2. The program involves 6 lessons with the purpose of students learning a process for regulating themselves when they are having big feelings. The process students learn is to ‘Stop, Think, Do’. During the sessions, students will be introduced to how they can recognise and label their feelings, what they need to calm down and how their actions can affect each other. Teachers will continue to model this process, build on these skills and use the same language throughout the year.
If you have a student in Prep this year, they will bring home their activities and some more information once they have completed the program.

Pine Rivers District Sporting Trials (10-12yr Old’s)
Pine Rivers District School Sport offers 10-12 year old students the opportunity to compete at Metropolitan North trials and carnivals, with the possibility of selection into teams competing at State events. Students must be nominated by their school in order to attend a district trial or carnival.
Students who express an interest to trial can collect forms from our PE office. They will be given the Pine Rivers District forms and the relevant trial information. Completed district forms are to be returned to the PE office by the due date. Once the forms are collated, students will be nominated for the trial. Forms are then handed back to students and must then be taken to the coach/manager at the District Trials. Students will NOT be allowed to trial if district forms are not handed in completed. Unless specifically organised by the school, it is the parents’ responsibility to transport students to and from district trials.
Most Pine Rivers District trials are limited to students turning 11 or 12 years of age and who are considered at a high level in the sport e.g. Div. 1 or A Grade. Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming trials however are open for students turning 10, 11 and 12 years of age. Sports that students are able to trial for include the following.
- AFL
- Basketball
- Cricket
- Football (Soccer)
- Golf
- Hockey
- Netball
- Rugby League
- Rugby Union
- Softball
- Squash
- Tennis
- Touch
- Triathlon
Mango Hill can nominate up to three students for each district sport trial. If more than three students wish to be nominated Mango Hill will select the three best candidates for the trial. The selection of these students may be either based on past performances/current club form or through a selection trial at school.
If you are interested in your child trialling for Pine Rivers District more information can be obtained from the Mango Hill State School newsletter, with regular trial updates listed. You may also obtain trial information from the Pine Rivers District School Sport Website https://prdss1012yr.teamapp.com/?_webpage=v1 or Mr Nick Hills - nhill96@eq.edu.au
