Celebrating World Teacher’s Day
This Friday we celebrate World Teacher’s Day. We are so grateful for all our wonderful teachers – their dedication, their kindness and their commitment to helping every student in our school succeed. Thank you to our P & C for organising a lovely afternoon tea for the teachers. I encourage all students and parents to show their gratitude with a kind word for the teachers this week.
Planning for 2022 – Booklist and Student Resource Scheme (SRS)
Very shortly all students enrolled for 2022 will be invoiced $100 for the 2022 SRS. This is a slight increase from last year however we have removed A4 white and coloured paper from the book and stationery list and will use bulk purchasing power for these items. The Student Resource Scheme funds are used for photocopying, eLearning subscriptions and art supplies.
On top of the $100 SRS, a stationery and booklist is attached below. Parents are welcome to purchase these items from the supplier of their choice.

Focus of the Week
The Care Class focus that will be delivered this Friday is ‘The 3 R's (Recognise, React, Report) - Day for Daniel’. We will be consolidating this focus throughout next week.
Day for Daniel is a national day where the main objective is to raise awareness of child safety. Day for Daniel is a fun day with a serious message, where schools, businesses and communities participate in activities aimed at making the world a safer place for children.
The key child safety message on Day for Daniel encourages children to Recognise, React and Report if they don't feel safe. ... It provides a message of strength and hope that together we can make the world safer for all children as a legacy to Daniel and his family.

Student of the Week
We’re Well Underway in our Term 4 Learning.
Our students are ‘bumping up’ their writing each week. We are learning to write the next part of the story. This means we need to really understand the story first, know what has happened in the story and know the characters and their feelings so we can then predict something that could likely happen next to write about. This can be tricky for some of us! If the setting of the book is a school and all of the plot line is within the school, it is unlikely that the next thing to happen will be a dog landing on the moon, for example.
In Maths, we’re taking our understanding of number to the next level! For us, it’s not about rote counting further and higher, it’s about deepening our understanding of numbers to 20 and being able to manipulate them and show addition and subtraction in multiple ways. If we can do this well, AND explain our thinking (this is key) then we are well on the way to becoming budding mathematicians.
In reading, it’s all about reading reading and reading some more. And then reading more again. The more words we know, the more we can read, the more we can comprehend and the more we can link the texts to our real world experience. Please read at home with your child. Out of all of the possible homework, it’s the reading that counts the most!
See the pictures attached to this article? It’s Prep S with their 1/2 Buddy Class! They love meeting up and getting to know each other. The Year 1 students are helping our Preps to learn all about Year 1.

Have a lovely long weekend!

1W has been very busy co-constructing their Bump It Up wall by creating a number of valuable resources for them to access whilst they are learning. It is always wonderful to watch our little 1W friends use their whiteboards to transfer important ideas, phrases and words from the wall to apply the learning into their writing. They are super clever and are always looking for ways to make their writing that little bit better.
Well done 1W on your wonderful work!
Please enjoy these photos of 1W and thier work.

Helping Hands Before and After School Transitions - Year 1's
As you would have heard from Helping Hands, as of this week our little Year 1's will begin to transition themselves to and from their classroom to Helping Hands. We know the Helping Hands Team have worked with the students and their families to ensure a smooth transition.
Have an excellent week.

Year 3 News
Week 4 already! Year 3 have achieved so much in a short space of time. Students and teachers are working incredibly hard every day, learning new things and deepening their understanding of a range of topics.
This week I visited 3C while they were working on their poetry unit. For the poetry unit, students are working to identify and include language features that carry a consistent mood across their poem. The students in 3C collaborated to piece together two different poems about the same place that had been jumbled together. One of these poems had a positive mood and the other, a negative mood. Miss Curran was supporting her students to find the words within the poem that matched the relevant mood. I was so impressed with how well the students in 3C were able to do this, as well as work so well together. Well done Miss Curran and 3C!
I also visited 3M during a Maths lesson this week. Once again, 3M were showing the Mango Hill State School value of Teamwork, with excellent collaboration. In this lesson, students were working to solve word problems that involved calculating the change from a given amount of money. Mrs Edwards showed the students some strategies for doing this, they then practised it together and finally attempted a problem on their own. Amazing problem solving 3M!

Have a great week.

Year 4 loves writing!
With our camp experience still fresh in our minds, students are continuing their creation of an effective advertisement about a holiday destination or event. Students are writing for a specific audience eg families, children and so on.
Yesterday I spent some time in 4V where students were focusing on including high modality verbs in their writing. This is part of persuading your audience and you will note this when you see advertisements every day eg Head straight to _______ before you miss out! If you want a fun day out that your children will never forget, definitely take them to __________. Check out the photos of our 4V learners and authors from some of our other Year 4 classes below.
Congratulations to our Year 4 students!
Well done to all our campers on their first ever school camp at Mango Hill State School. Students enthusiastically threw themselves into the amazing activities. (Just a reminder if your child returned home minus some clothes, water bottle, bedding to have them check the camp lost property.) Congratulations are in order to for our small number of students who stayed at school and spent the 3 days in a Year 6 classroom. They excelled themselves, fitting in seamlessly to the routines and making some Year 6 friends.

Enjoy your special Friday holiday this week.
Have a fantastic week.

Care for Learning in Year 5 and 6
It has been a great week in Year 5 and 6 classrooms and I have had the pleasure of working with many students on their writing and maths units. I was lucky to work with 6R as they participated in a Rally Coach collaborative activity as one student taught their peer an algebraic rule to determine a number pattern. It was great listening to conversations and observe students connect with one another through their learning. Great teamwork 6R! I also had the pleasure of working with some students in 6B this week as they continued to deconstruct the My Place text and represent their learning through a diary entry. I was so impressed by the writing of William, Mokshi, Ellegra and Susanna. Finally thank you to 5W for opening their doors to me and allowing me to participate in your Maths lesson. I loved seeing students use different strategies when they need help to improve their work. Well done Year 5 and 6!

Student Leader Cluster Meeting
This week our School Captains and Ms Balaam hosted School Captains from other primary schools in the region for the latest Student Leader Cluster meeting. Each month the School Captains from the region meet to develop each other’s leadership skills and the collaborate on how best to lead. These skills will serve all the captains into the future. This week our captains presented on the leadership quality of responsibility. When I spoke to some captains from other schools they explained how being a leader means that you can be relied upon even when decisions may be difficult. Great work leaders and Ms Balaam.
2022 Student Leadership
Last week our Year 5 students were presented with their Student Leader Passport. This is a great opportunity for our Year 5s to nominate themselves to be a leader next year and also to focus on developing the skills they need to gain the confidence of the school community. Students have been busy getting their passport signed and references written. Remember, if you would like to be considered for a leadership position in 2022 your passport must be completed and submitted to the office by Friday 5 November. Good luck!
Year 6 Graduation
This week I will be distributing invitations to this year’s Year 6 graduation. The graduation will commence at 5:00pm Wednesday 8 December in our Gigum Hall. Students will be presented with their graduation certificate and following our formalities students will be invited to participate in our disco and a range of other fun activities. Families will also be invited to visit the food vans organised by the Graduation Committee to have a family dinner under the stars of Mango Hill. As in previous years students will be invited to nominate a maximum of two adults to attend the event. Other family members and friends will have the opportunity to celebrate with our Year 6 students at the end of year assembly and traditional walk out of the school during the final week of term. We look forward to celebrating with our Year 6 cohort.
Have a terrific week.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
Congratulations to all those who participated in this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge. We have now received our certificates from the Premier and these will be presented to eligible students this week. Even though the challenge has finished, don’t forget to keep reading – it is a wonderful way to continue to build your skills and knowledge, and sometimes escape to another world.
Volunteers
We have been especially busy over the last couple of months purchasing and cataloguing a range of new books. These now need to be covered in contact so if you are interested in volunteering for even a couple of hours we would love your help! Pop on down to the Hub to see Wendy if you are keen to help.
AR Millionaires
This week Ipshitha has reached the extraordinary 5 million words in Accelerated Reader. She has been working consistently all year to reach this milestone! Congratulations Ipshitha – we are very proud of you!
Learning in Health
While there are many opportunities for students to learn about making healthy choices, our Semester 2 curriculum program provides specific learnings around health concepts. In Term 3 all students are engaged in learning about healthy food choices as well as exploring ways in which we make decisions which contribute to our ongoing well-being. In Term 4 students have the opportunity to learn about their bodies and the ways in which these change every year. Health topics are also great for family discussions. Being able to ask questions in safe and supportive environments always helps our well-being and understandings about the world. What could you talk about with your family this week?
Happy Reading
