Happy Holidays!
It has been an action packed Term 2 and all staff, students and families certainly deserve to be proud of the achievements we have made in partnership. I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. As we approach the culmination of the term let's celebrate the achievements of our school community.
- Report Cards are almost complete and we are organising the celebration of some great results across the school in terms of both our connection and clarity focus.
- Together we will celebrate the behaviour focus for the term, Team Mango.
- Our AFL Teams encountered great success this term and have progressed to the AFLQ Schools Cup finals.
- Our school community demonstrated a great Team Mango culture and super athletic skills at our Sports Day and Athletics Carnivals.
- We connected with our parents and carers through parent forums and are looking at ways to action some of their feedback and suggestions to make our school even better.
- We have celebrated The Arts with our Instrumental Concert and Junior and Senior Concerts as well this week.
- We welcomed our Critical Friend Network (CFN) to the school this term and received great feedback on the work we are doing to ensure clarity of learning as well as constructive next steps.
- Our students participated in great cultural events through the Italian Mosaic and Mask Making experiences as well as other learning experiences outside of the classroom.
- Years 4-6 developed some real world skills through participating in the First Aid Awareness Training.
- Our local Secondary Schools have commenced connecting with our Year 6 students and opening their minds to their next stage of learning.
- Our many, many building projects are on track to be completed in accordance with timeframes.
Once again, thank you for such a successful term. Have a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to connecting with all of you in Term 3.

Graduation Committee – Year 6 Graduation
Last week I had the opportunity to meet with our Year 6 Graduation Committee. To make the most of our beautiful facilities the Graduation Committee elected to host the Year 6 Graduation in our brand new school hall. This decision was also made in response to Eaton’s Hill Hotel not being able to cater to our numbers anymore. We have enjoyed a great association with Eaton’s Hill Hotel for a number of years, however we now look forward to creating a new event to celebrate our wonderful graduating students. I am in the process of locking in a date for the Graduation and look forward to announcing this with the community shortly.
Have a terrific week.

Focus of the Week
The Care Class focus that will be delivered this Friday is ”Bullying No Way (Reporting)”.
Our learning intention is to be able to report an ongoing incident that is repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological behaviour. If any of these behaviours occur only once, or are part of a conflict between equals (no matter how inappropriate) they are not bullying. The behaviours alone don't define bullying.
This topic links to Care for others and also to Care for self. When I care for others I help create a safe and secure environment for all to learn and thrive in. In particular, students will be reviewing the importance of reporting.
For a definition of bullying, see http://bullyingnoway.gov.au/
ICAS Registration
Mango Hill State School will once again be participating in the 2021 ICAS Assessments. ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Digital Technologies. Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition. Top performers will be eligible for medals and the opportunity to attend a special award ceremony to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.
Please find attached the details regarding registration and Online Parent Payment System. Specific details of assessment days and times will be released in the near future.

Changes to the Front Carpark
Over the holidays we will be making some changes to the front carpark to alleviate the congestion at the turn into Stop, Drop, Go and Carpark 2. To do this work, the carpark will be shut off from the end of Carpark 1 for the entire holidays. There will be no access to the bus lane or the normal drop off area for OSHC. Parents accessing Vacation Care at Helping Hands will need to park in Carpark 1 during the break.
When you return in Term 3, please note that you will stay in the LEFT hand lane to access the Stop, Drop, Go or Look Out Program. The right lane will be for access to the carparks.

Prep News
We made it! We have completed six months of Big School. We are now well and truly primary schoolers.
This semester we have...
- made friends and learned to share in the playground learned school routines; where does everything go and why *learned sounds, letters and words and how these go together to make sense in sentences *started to read by ourselves - eeeek!
- started to write by ourselves - eeeeek!
- developed confidence to problem solve.
- learned to count forwards and backwards and the value of numbers *had heaps of fun!

Our Prep teaching team is forever grateful to work with such a fab bunch of supportive families, who care deeply about their child’s learning and wellbeing. Special mention to parents and carers who are school parents for the first time - you’ve survived and thrived the first six months of being school parents!
I will be taking leave for the first two weeks back in Term 3. Miss O’Brien will replace me when I am away. If you need assistance with anything her email address is dxobr0@eq.edu.au
When I return in Week 3, our incoming Prep interviews for 2022 will begin! If you have a little one due to start with us next year or know of little ones in your area who are due to start, help us to plan and welcome our incoming Preps by ensuring enrolment paperwork is returned.
Have a lovely holiday break.

Happy Holidays
What a busy Week 10 with loads of celebrations in learning, sport, performing arts and behaviour. We have really hit the ground running this week and loved every minute of it! Our little friends have loved the array of celebrations and activities, acknowledging their great efforts and progress in learning and behaviour. There were lots of giggles on the jumping castle at our behaviour celebration as Team Mango took part in the joys of bouncing around with their peers. Students received some great Team Mango acknowledgements including a pencil and wrist band. We love seeing our students working together at play and in the classroom.
Over the next two weeks I wish all our families a safe and happy holiday. I hope you get some quality time together to enjoy the outdoors and connect with loved ones.

Have an excellent break.

Year 3 and 4 News
We’re officially halfway through the year! I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the growth and development of our Year 3 and 4 students over the first semester. We’ve achieved so much in Semester One with learning, excursions, cross country, sports day, electives, concerts and celebrations to name a few.
This week our Year 3 and 4 students will work in their class groups to complete a digital showcase to take home and share with their friends and family. The digital showcase is an opportunity for students to share their learning from the term and to celebrate their achievements.

Athletics carnival
Team Mango was our theme this term and I saw this truly enacted at our athletics carnival this week. Aside from all of the amazing performances from our athletes, what I found most pleasing was the support that our students provided to their fellow competitors. It was wonderful to see students cheering each other on and celebrating the achievements of their peers.

Care Focus
This week’s care focus is ‘managing our big feelings’. At this time of term, we can certainly experience some big feelings as school holidays approach. Whether it be in the playground or the classroom, we encourage our students to manage their big feelings using strategies that help them. What are the strategies that help your child to manage their feelings? Can they recognise when they need to use them?
I wish all of our students and families a safe holidays. I look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 3!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with a disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines.
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please feel free to contact me.
Have a great week.

AR Millionaire Readers
Congratulations to Jasmeet who this week reached 1 million words in AR. We are very proud of Jasmeet who has been working hard all year to achieve this special goal. Sometimes he almost misses the bus in his excitement to choose his next AR book!
Congratulations also to Amaan who last week reached the outstanding milestone of 2 million words in AR. We are very impressed by Amaan’s enthusiasm and dedication to reading and can’t wait to see just how many words he will be able to read this year!
We have added a photo of each of these super readers to our special AR display in the Hub.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
Don’t forget that it is not too late to start reading and recording your books for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Forms are due back in the Hub by the end of August. The holidays are a great time to read and read and read!
Term 3 Curriculum
While we are all ready for a lovely long holiday, we are also really looking forward to lots more learning in Term 3.
In English students will be busy reading and writing poems, descriptions, novels, traditional tales, Aboriginal Dreaming stories and a range of persuasive texts. Learning about a range of texts provides students with opportunities to consider how authors use language in a variety of ways to influence others. In our daily lives we also encounter lots of different texts so it is useful to understand how they are all similar and different.
In Maths students will continue their investigations with number, patterns, fractions, decimals and measurement. Importantly students will also be engaged in a range of activities to develop their problem-solving skills. Everyday we are faced with problems that require solutions, so positive experiences with problem-solving help us now and in the future.
Students will also participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), Physical Education (PE), Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and Italian in Term 3. Students will also have an opportunity to extend their skills in Music or Performing Arts, and later in the term will focus on a unit of study about Health. The Health units provide topics for students to explore to help them build a range of healthy practices.
We look forward to lots of learning in Term 3.

Sci Connect
Sci Connect is one of the STEM programs offered at Mango Hill. It is a Science program for selected Year 6 students who once a term travel to Murrumba State Secondary College for a lesson with their Year 9 Engineering students, and then complete weekly extension Science lessons in our Lab for the rest of the term. We have 15 selected students in the program, who this term have been studying our body’s systems. They have dissected kidneys and hearts, and made their own intestines, lungs, hearts and cells. The culminating project was to make a model of the brain to accompany their assessment on a chosen brain disease. The students have been very creative in their models – some of the projects we have are made from crochet, plaster of Paris, Styrofoam, fondant icing, cake, 3D print and clay. Well done Indigo, Caitlin, Batsi, Lachlan, Ava, Anja, Paba, Chloe, Sophia, Caleb, Will, Stuart, Michaela, Ariana and Ngan! Thank you to Mrs Koch for her involvment in this program and for keeping all our students actively engaged!

Have a wonderful week.
