Wakakirri
A huge congratulations to our Wakakirri Team. I was fortunate enough to attend their performance last week and was amazed at our talent. I’m always in awe of Ms Kostoglou’s creative storytelling and still can’t work out how she can get so many students moving with such synchronisation. Well done to the team and also a big thank you to all the parents and family members who assisted this team throughout the year and on the night. Our Wakakirri team has been awarded a 'State Award,' and have been invited to perform at the Awards evening. Good luck to the team.
The judge's feedback from last weeks performance is below. Well done to all the students and Ms Kostoglou.
Ambassador comment
"Lost, lonely and looking for love. A little cat's journey shows us the true power of respect and second chances." NATHALIE COTTE, Wakakirri Ambassador
Ambassador feedback
Mango Hill State School, what a touching and beautifully told story! Your performance of Respect used simple storytelling with deep emotional impact, showing how small actions - both kind and unkind - can have a big effect of the story of life in a way that everyone could understand.
Your show was amazing! From the very first moment, the opening capured attention straight away. The choreography and storytelling were clear, expressive, and well paced. The use of acros was both surprising and effective. I loved the way you balanced the highs and lows of emotion and energy, keeping the audience emotionally engaged throughout. Scene changes were smooth, and the soundtrack supported the performance beautifully.
It was also wonderful to see how this story ties in with your school's respect program, it is clear that your values shine through both on and off the stage. With 11 Wakakirri performances under your belt, your school continues to show how creativity, compassion and community can come together to tell meaninful stories. Well done Mango Hill, what a powerful and heartfelt piece.

Book Week
Last week we also celebrated Book Week. Thank you to our families for getting into the spirit of Book Week. It was lovely to see so many happy students celebrating their love of books. A big thank you also to our committed teachers for dressing up and making the week special. Well done to our Hub staff, Raffaella, Cherie, Rachael and Marissa. We appreciate all that you do.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We are fast approaching Parent Teacher Interviews. Booking details were sent out yesterday. Parents/carers are encouraged to book a time in with your child’s class teacher to discuss how they are going with their learning and social wellbeing and development. If released times don’t suit, please reach out to your child’s teacher to allow a suitable time to be booked.
Father's Day Stall
Next week the P&C will be holding a Fathers’ Day Stall. Remember this is for ONE day only and students are reminded to bring CASH only. Please mark 4 September in your calendar to avoid disappointment. Thank you to our volunteers and a big shout out to Mel T for taking the lead with the organisation. It’s very much appreciated.
To all our Dads and those that take on the role of a father, Happy Fathers’ Day for the 7 September. We value the important role that you play in our students’ lives. Here’s to a fun Sunday, filled with love.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder Friday 5 September is a pupil free day. There will be no Mango Hill staff at school on this day so please make alternate arrangements. Helping Hands will be open.
2026 Class Allocation - Parent Considerations
As we begin the complex process of class allocations for 2026, we warmly invite families to share information they would like us to consider when placing their child. We value your insights and understand that you may have perspectives that support your child’s learning, wellbeing, or social development. If you have considerations to share with us, please do so via the link or QR code below.
We ask that you please note while all information received will be reviewed carefully, we may not be able to accommodate all requests. Class placement in a school of our size involves a wide range of considerations, including academic balance, social and emotional needs, support provisions, and staffing.
Please submit any information that you wish us to consider fresh this year, as we do not carry over previous requests. This helps ensure that decisions are based on current and relevant context.
Please also note that specific teacher requests will not be considered.
Submission of parent considerations is optional but must be submitted by Friday 12th September 2025. Late submissions will not be considered. We thank you for your ongoing partnership and support.

PACE Class Placements 2026
At Mango Hill State School, our PACE Program is designed to support students who demonstrate very high academic achievement across multiple learning areas. PACE classrooms, students are taught the Australian Curriculum but may work at a faster pace, allowing students to engage in inquiry-based projects.
Each year, PACE class placements are carefully reviewed using a range of current student data sources. This ensures that placements reflect each child’s learning needs at that point in time. While there is one PACE class in each year level, places are limited, and decisions are made to ensure the best possible learning environment for all students across the school.
If you would like to discuss whether a PACE placement may be suitable for your child in 2026, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s class teacher or the Year Level Deputy Principal.
The images below provide an overview of the placement process for Prep and for Years 1–6.
Version 9 Health Curriculum
The Queensland Department of Education has developed the Respect program, which is part of the Respectful Relationships Education initiative and is designed for students from Prep to Year 12. This program is evidence-based research and utilises best-practice educational methods, focusing on key areas such as:
- Domestic and family violence
- Consent education, leading to sexual consent
- Gender equality and equity
- Help-seeking and reporting strategies
The Respect program offers a comprehensive set of practical resources. These lessons provide opportunities to address concerns and assist students in navigating sensitive and complex issues.
In alignment with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum, the Respect program will be taught at MHSS in Term 4. We will be holding a parent information session on Monday 15th September at 8:30am in Wandani to share these resources.
Arts Fest
We are also getting closer to Arts Fest. Last year was one of the biggest turnouts yet. Let’s make it just as amazing this year. There will be heaps of food, fun activities and a celebration of the ARTS. I hope to see you there. Thanks to Ray White North Lakes for sponsoring this event.

Diversity Day Parade
Diversity Day Parade – Friday 17 October (Week 2, Term 4)
We are very excited to be preparing for our upcoming Diversity Day Parade! We would love for this special event to showcase the many cultures and traditions that make up our school community, and we would love to highlight the unique heritage of our families.
There are many ways cultures can be represented – from traditional dress, music and dance to stories, artwork or special customs. Every contribution, big or small, helps to make our celebration more meaningful and reflective of our community.

Focus of the Week
This week in Care Class we will be caring for Learning by identifying our strengths as learners. A strength is a positive character trait, skill or talent. Knowing your strengths can help you to better understand, identify and build on your abilities which can be a more positive way of viewing and improving yourself. We will also re-visit the importance of having a growth mindset and how this can impact the way we choose to view challenges or setbacks.
Reading at Mango
Reading in Year 3 this term is all about learning new spelling rules so students can read words in texts. This term, we have learnt many suffix rules such as adding ly, adding ion, and adding er/or. These suffixes change the meaning of the base word they are added on to. Learning these rules gives us more confidence to read the words in texts and understand the word meaning which builds reading comprehension. In 3B, we love practising rules we have already learnt by playing fun games like Blooket and Bamboozled. It’s so great to build our confidence with reading and talk about books we have read at home.
Instrumental Music
We are now starting the recruitment process for the Instrumental Music Program in 2026. If your child is interested in being involved in the strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass) or band program (brass, woodwind or percussion instruments), please scan the relevant QR code on the flyer for more information and to fill out the online expression of interest form.
Recycled Art Show Competition
Moreton Bay Youth Art Awards
The Moreton Bay Youth Art Awards are an annual exhibition and award opportunity for school-aged artists living or attending a school in City of Moreton Bay.
Each year, you’re invited to marvel at the creativity, skill, and unique perspectives of our talented young artists at the free Moreton Bay Youth Art Awards exhibition.

Maths - Equal sharing continued
This week I had the pleasure of visiting Prep G during their Maths lesson on equal sharing. They were learning to share a given amount into 2 equal parts to find out how many each part contained. Learners watched Miss Vanessa model this before working in pairs, one as the worker and one as the coach, then swapping roles. I saw so many mathematical skills at play including quantifying, counting with one-to-one correspondence, comparing (more, less, the same), sharing equally, not to mention the social skills required to work so effectively in pairs. Here are some photos showing students representing practical situations of equal sharing with partners and working independently – amazing work Miss Vanessa and Prep G!

Book week parade
Thank you for coming along to celebrate this year’s book week theme, ‘Book an adventure’. As we move through Prep, our learners are working towards reading more independently, using sounds that they know. If you are not already regularly accessing Decodable Readers Australia, I encourage you to log on and dive in with your child to see how they are beginning to blend sounds together to read words.
Swimming
Have you returned your permission forms yet? As we start swimming in Week 1 of next term, permissions and payment need to be received this term to avoid any disappointment. Please see your class teacher if you have any questions.

Measurement
This term Year 1 students have been learning how to measure the length of shapes and objects using uniform informal units. This means that students measure using items other than a ruler or measuring tape. Here is Mrs Rintala and students from 1J discussing which items would be useful to measure with and which ones would not. Ivy chose uniform dominos to measure her book with, very clever!

Book Week Parade
Harry Potter, an Australian butterfly, Ronaldo, Elsa and so much more. Year 1 shone at the 2025 Book Week parade. Thank you families for the effort you put into preparing your child for the event and for those that were able to join us.
A big shout out to the fabulous Year 1 teaching team for their amazing ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ themed costumes.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Celebrating Book Week 2025
What a wonderful Book Week we shared as a school community! On Friday, our annual Book Week Parade was a true highlight, with students proudly showing off their creative costumes inspired by their favourite characters. A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who supported their children in sourcing their costumes, and to those who were able to join us on the day, your presence made the celebration even more wonderful. Be sure to take a look at the photos attached to relive the magic of the day!
In addition to the parade, 2H enjoyed a ‘feast of a different kind’ with a special Book Tasting. Students had the chance to sample and share a wide variety of wonderful books brought in from home – sparking plenty of excitement, curiosity and new reading adventures.
Book Week was a true celebration of imagination, adventure, creativity and the joy of reading. Thank you for helping make it such a memorable event for our students.
Keeping Our Piazza Calm and Safe
A reminder that children are not to be in the Piazza before or after school unless they are directly supervised by their parent or carer. When in the Piazza with their adult, students must remain seated quietly and should not be running around or playing ball games of any kind. Thank you for your support in helping us keep the Piazza a safe and welcoming space for our school community.
Thank you for your onging support and wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Respect and Caring for Environment
Over the past few weeks, we have been reminding students about the appropriate use of our school toilets. This links strongly to our values of respect and caring for our environment, ensuring these important facilities remain clean and safe for everyone.
We would appreciate your support in reinforcing these reminders at home. Over the coming weeks, students will also engage with social stories that highlight respectful toilet use and the importance of having a buddy waiting outside the toilets, who can let a teacher know if something doesn’t seem right.
Every Day Counts
We are so proud of the growth our Year 3 students have shown throughout Term 3, and we look forward to building on this momentum as we move into the second half of the term. A key factor in this success has been the strong attendance of many students. Attending school every day—and staying for the full day—makes a real difference. With assessment time approaching, students will be engaging in important learning tasks across the day, making consistent attendance more important than ever.
Deputy Principal
ePAL (electronic Portable Anytime Learning) Program
The ePAL program is designed to help students use technology in smart and meaningful ways. At Mango Hill State School, we want technology to support quality teaching, make learning more engaging, and help students achieve their best.
Through ePAL, students:
- Learn with tools that reflect today’s rapidly changing world.
- Use technology that is connected to their schoolwork and everyday learning.
- Develop important skills such as finding, understanding, and using information in new ways.
Overall, ePAL helps prepare students for the future by making learning innovative, purposeful, and exciting.
The teachers and I would greatly appreciate your support discussing the following with your child as device misuse impacts lessons, learning and classroom management:
- iPads are to be used for learning purposes only. I have spoken with several students recently about responsible use, and your support with reinforcing this at home would be greatly appreciated.
- If you need to contact your child during the school day, please do so via the school office, as some students have been receiving iMessages during class time, which interrupts their learning.
Toilet Hygiene
This is another topic for which I am seeking your support. During Term 2 and Term 3 the teachers and I have been repeatedly stressing the importance of good toilet hygiene on our weekly assembly, in Care Class lessons and general class reminders etc.
Please discuss the following points with your child:
- Going to the toilet during play breaks is preferred to going during learning
- Using the toilet and toilet resources for the designed purpose -not playing, not talking – in and out of the toilet as quickly as possible
- Washing hands after using the toilet
- Using soap, toilet paper and the toilet only as personally needed
Please also discuss the nature of germ related issues in toilets and toilet blocks.
Excursions and Incursions reminders
BIKE ED WEEK 8:
Monday – 1 Sept – 4I
Tuesday – 2 Sept – 4H
Wednesday – 3 Sept – 4J
ITALIAN FOOD INCURSION:
Please send both payment and permission by 12 September 2025 as no late payments will be accepted. If you have a payment arrangement with the school, please advise Mrs. Kerry Muncey of your intent. The school will not manage your funds without authorisation.

Year 5 Speaking and Listening Task
This term, Year 5 students are developing their persuasive speaking and listening skills. As part of their English unit, students are preparing and presenting a short persuasive speech to convince their audience that our school community would benefit from a new facility, service, or activity — such as a basketball court, yoga class, or water bubbler.
Through this task, students are learning how to plan, structure, and deliver a speech, use persuasive language devices, and present confidently with tone, pace, and expression. They are also practising their active listening skills by giving feedback and asking questions about their peers’ presentations.
This learning builds important communication skills that will support students both in the classroom and beyond.
School Attendance
A reminder to families that every school day counts. Regular attendance is vital for student learning as well as developing social skills.
We ask all parents and carers to support their child’s learning by ensuring they attend school every day unless they are unwell. Please remember to update any absences promptly through QParents or by contacting the school office.
Greg McCallum
Deputy Principal- Year 5
gmcca24@eq.edu.au

Learning in Year 6
It has been great to hear and view our students' elaborating on key issues facing the local community during their Speaking and Listening Unit. Our students have been sharing, developing and explaining their ideas, using persuasive text structures to convince others on why action should be taken. Our teachers have been working with students on ensuring they use features of voice when presenting their vlogs to ensure they communicate their text clearly. Be sure to ask your students about their learning!
High School transitions
Some of our students have already begun their high school transitions and orientations for 2026. If you are yet to enrol your child into a high school for 2026, now is the time to act. If you require support with doing this, please let us know. The sooner this decision is made, the more settled the transition is for students.
Graduation fundraising
A huge shout-out to Helping Hands for their support of our Year 6 Graduation fundraising efforts. They are kindly supplying the meat for our BBQ! Thank you also to those who have offered to donate baked goods and bread for sale at the Arts Fest. Your support is greatly appreciated!
We are still seeking support for the following for Arts Fest (September 11, 2025):
- Volunteers for the BBQ (time slots 5-6pm and 6-7pm) Please email Petrina Ollard polla2@eq.edu.au
- Baked Goods. Please email Petrina Ollard polla2@eq.edu.au
- Cartons of soft drinks and/or water (please drop any donations to the office).
Your generosity is greatly appreciated by myself, the Graduation Committee and our Year 6 students!
Danielle Price
Deputy Principal- Year 6
dxobr0@eq.edu.au
What’s happening in Maths?
This term, students in Years 1 to 6 have been engaging in the curriculum through an inquiry-based learning approach. They have been investigating real world problems through Mathematical modelling.
Mathematical modelling is important because it helps students see how maths applies to real-life situations. It builds problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking skills while showing that problems can have more than one solution. These skills prepare students for everyday challenges and future learning.
Calling all volunteers!
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who helped our last week. If you have an hour to spare on Monday-Thursday, anytime between 8:30am-12:30pm, please drop in and help us cover some new books and student resources. We appreciate your support!
