We are certainly in the thick of winter. It’s been cold. Thank you to all parents/carers for supporting our school uphold the uniform requirements by encouraging your child to wear the correct Mango Hill jumper/jacket. Wearing your uniform with pride shows that you respect your school and our values. It creates a sense of unity and belonging among all students. When everyone looks and feels part of the same group, teamwork naturally grows stronger.
Report Cards
Semester 1 report cards will be emailed to families in Week 1 of Term 3. As part of our ongoing partnership between home and school, we look forward to sharing your child’s achievements and next steps. If your contact details have recently changed, please ensure your email address is updated with our administration team so you don’t miss this important communication.
Term 3 Parent Overview
The second half of the year is always a busy time. Please find attached the Term 3 Parent Overview. These dates are subject to change. All changes will be communicated via the school’s newsletter. Reading the newsletter helps you stay informed and up-to-date with important communications, upcoming events, and everything happening around the school. It’s a great way to stay connected, ensure you don’t miss key dates or updates, and be actively involved in the school community. From celebrations to reminders, this newsletter keeps you in the loop and supports a smooth and successful term for everyone.
Week 9
This week has been busy. On Monday we held our P&C meeting. Thank you to all who joined us. A big thank you to our P&C with their efforts in fundraising. On Tuesday we held our mid-year Dance Concert for Year 2 and Year 4 students. Thank you to parents/carers for joining us. This evening we will be holding our mid-year Music Gala Concert. Thank you to all students for your efforts. It’s clear to see there’s been many hours practising to bring such polished pieces to your audience. A big shout out to our amazing teachers Ms Kostoglou, Ms Almond, Mrs Morrell, Mrs Nicolopoulos, Mrs Ritter, Ms Luke and Mrs Bogdan for their ongoing dedication and commitment to our students. Thank you also to all staff who assisted.
Athletics Carnivals
Next week, we are excited to be holding our Athletics Carnivals! At Mango, the spirit of athletics is all about participation and giving it your best shot. You don’t have to be the fastest or strongest — what matters most is supporting your team and having a go. It’s a fantastic opportunity to build fitness, enjoy time with friends, and engage in some friendly rivalry between our house teams.
A big thank you goes to our dedicated PE team, Mr Lisha, Mr Hill, Mr Newell and Ms Wilson, for all the work that goes into organising these fun and active events. Parents and carers are invited to attend and cheer on the students, but we kindly ask that you remain behind the marked areas to ensure everyone’s safety and to allow events to run smoothly. Let’s make it a great week of energy, encouragement, and team spirit!
Staffing
Lastly, along with last week’s staffing announcements, we farewell Ms Gerda Viljoen at the end of this term. Ms V will be heading to an independent school as there’s a leadership opportunity that may present itself. We thank Ms Viljoen for her commitment and dedication to our students and school and wish her the best of luck.
Yarn and Eats
We warmly invite our First Nations families to join us for Yarn and Eats on Thursday 19 June from 3:00–4:00pm in the Piazza. Enjoy a sausage sizzle, a yarn, and some fun art activities. We’d love to see you there!

Focus of the Week
Consistent Predictable Routines at Mango Hill State School
The Care Class focus that will be delivered this Friday is Consistent Predictable Routines and our school wide expectations. We will also be consolidating this focus throughout next week.
Showing care for the school environment also includes our learning environment. When we have consistent, predictable routines we create an environment that is safe and welcoming. At Mango we incorporate the Berry Street Education Model throughout our day.
Ready Breaks
A Ready Break is a short break with an opportunity for both movement and social interaction between students. They can be movement breaks to include a physical activity or dance such as ‘Go noodle’ or ‘Just Dance,’ or chat breaks to allow students to collaborate or engage with their peers. Some breaks may be for calming such as yoga, meditation or colouring in.
Reading at Mango
Comprehension is the reason for reading. If readers can read the words but do not understand or connect to what they are reading, they are not really reading.
Reading comprehension is the ability to understand, connect with, and think critically about what is being read. It involves not just recognizing words, but also grasping the meaning of sentences, understanding the overall message or story, and making inferences or predictions. Strong comprehension allows children to learn new information, follow directions, and enjoy reading. This skill depends in part on reading fluency—the ability to read words accurately, quickly, and with expression—because fluent readers don’t have to work as hard to decode each word. According to cognitive load theory, our brains have a limited capacity for processing information. If a child is using most of their mental energy just to figure out the words on the page, there’s less brainpower left to understand what the text actually means. Building fluency helps reduce this mental load, making comprehension easier and more natural.
P&C News
Sports Day is only a week away and we're still after volunteers to help with the sausage sizzle on Tuesday 24 June 2025. Even if you can only spare 30-60 minutes, we'd love to have you help out. This will be the final fundraiser for the term, so a great opportunity to 'try us out' and see if it's something you'd like to get more involved in for Terms 3 and 4. We'd love to see you there.
Please email PandCPresidentMHSS@outlook.com and let us know which day and times you might be available to help.

Reporting
We report in line with K – 12 Framework requirements, aligned to the Australian Curriculum version 9. For English, Maths and Health and Physical Education (HPE), Prep students have been taught and assessed so you’ll see a summary of learning, an effort rating, and a level of achievement. Other subjects are experienced and for these, you will see a summary of learning and an effort rating only.
Art
Here is some emu art, inspired by the learning going on in class about Australian animals. Next term the school will have its annual Artsfest on 11 September from 4pm-7pm. Why not pop it on your calendar so you can come and enjoy seeing pieces from Kindy to Year 6?
Hearing screener registration closing soon
You have until Friday 20 June to return your completed consent form and questionnaire if you wish to book in for a hearing screener at the cost of $20. Please see your class teacher if you need a spare form.

Congratulations to our first group of Year 1 students who have achieved their 'Care for Self' or 'Care for Others' badge. Students have been dutifully earning stickers towards their badge throughout the semester. We can’t wait to see who earns their badge next.
Year 1 Phonics Check
In Term 3, all Year 1 students will complete the ‘Year 1 Phonics Check’ which is a mandatory universal screener. It is a short check which is completed individually with each student. Students read 40 words; 20 real words and 20 nonsense words. Nonsense words are included as they provide a true indication of a student’s decoding ability. The Phonics Check helps us to identify students who are struggling with learning to read at an early stage.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or follow the link below.

As we move into the final fortnight of Term 2, we’d like to thank our Year 2 families for your continued support and engagement. There are a few important reminders and exciting events to share with you as we wrap up the term.
Attendance Matters
We are proud to share that the current attendance rate for Year 2 is 93.18%. This is a great effort, and we are keen to maintain this strong attendance through to the final day of Term 2. Every day counts, and consistent attendance helps ensure your child continues to grow in confidence and consolidates their learning before the mid-year break.
If your child is away, please remember to notify the school via QParents or email us at studentabsence@mangohillss.eq.edu.au. If your family is planning an early holiday or extended time away, we ask that you advise the school office as soon as possible. For absences longer than ten consecutive school days, an Exemption from Compulsory Schooling form is required to be completed.
Thank you for your support in keeping attendance a priority for the remainder of the term.
Junior Sports Carnival – Thursday 26 June
We are looking forward to our Junior Sports Carnival in Week 10! Year 2 students will be participating in a range of athletics-based activities on the oval from 12:45pm to 2:15pm on Thursday 26 June.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to put into practice the skills they’ve been developing in PE and to enjoy a fun afternoon outdoors with their peers. Please ensure your child comes prepared for the day with a hat and a water bottle.
We’d love to see parents and carers there cheering on our young athletes. Your support always makes the day extra special!
Wishing all our Year 2 families a smooth end to the term!
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Term 3 Excursion
In the coming days, you will receive a notification regarding our Term 3 excursion to the Caboolture Historical Village. Our Year 3 students will attend the excursion in two groups: the first group on Monday, 28 July, and the second group on Thursday, 31 July.
As previously communicated, Education Queensland has recently updated its excursion procedures. If you would like your child to participate, please ensure you complete the consent form via QParents. Once submitted, this will generate your invoice. The consent form must be completed by 23 July.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Australia Zoo Excursion
This term students explored sources of information about influential people within their field of expertise such as sportspeople, inventors, conservationists and media personalities. We visited Australia Zoo, home of the Irwin family whose dedication to wildlife and the environment has made a lasting impact.
Many students wrote about Robert Irwin for their Information Report. How amazing that on Monday the classes visiting the zoo got to see Robert Irwin presenting at the Crocoseum!

Information Reports
Last week I referenced some of the great work students were doing using technology to present Information Reports including Keynote and ‘Green Screen’ technology. Well done to Oliver and Elijah who presented information on bush fires from the hot zone!
Care for Self Champion
Congratulations to Aylah for becoming a Care for Self Champion during last week. Aylah has received all the stickers for S E L F in her SOLE Sticker Chart. I look forward to presenting more badges over the coming weeks.
Camp Reminder
Just a reminder that camp permissions are due next week. If you are yet to do so please log into QParents to ‘Accept’ or ‘Decline’.
Have a great week!

Learning in Year 6
With a very busy Week 10 approaching, our teachers are working hard with students to wrap up the final units of work for Term 2 this week.
Yesterday afternoon, our students were able to listen to Dr Karl, with Dr Karl encouraging curiosity and all questions. Some student highlights included Dr Karl sharing his story on winning a Nobel Prize for the Belly Button Lint and one of our students even getting to thank Dr Karl for an invention which has supported his family. It was a great experience for our students.

Athletics Carnival
Next week is our school athletics carnival. Events will be split across 2 days, with the first lot of events taking place on Monday 23 June. These events will be finals for 200m and 800m, as well as championship discus events.
On Wednesday 18 June, all Year 6 students will be able to compete in all events. We welcome parents and carers to come down to the oval and cheer on their children as they compete throughout the day.
Interschool Sport
Well done to our Year 6 students who attended interschool sport last Friday. I heard reports about fantastic results, great sportsmanship and lots of fun!
In Future Science this semester, students had the opportunity to participate in a program in partnership with Mango Hill State Secondary College. As part of the program, they explored a chemical reaction of their choice and developed engaging presentations to share their findings with peers. In addition, students investigated key aspects of human anatomy, with a focus on the digestive, respiratory and nervous systems. They also presented informative reports on the brain, highlighting the neurological and lifelong impacts of various brain illnesses.
