We’ve had another amazing week at Mango Hill State School. Soon we farewell Ms Brooke Pearce, Ms Hannah Devine and Ms Sharna Reade as they commence maternity leave. We wish them all the best and can’t wait to meet our new little additions to Team Mango. We welcome Ms Jade Hosken who will replace Ms Sharna Reade, Ms Lizzie Hartmann replacing Ms Brooke Pearce and Mr Bailey Morgan replacing Ms Hannah Devine. We also farewell Ms Lisa Johnstone and Ms Jenny Russell. Lisa is one of our teacher aides. She will be finishing up at the end of this term and transferring to another school. We thank Lisa for her contribution to our students, families and staff. We wish her all the best. Jenny has taught many subjects and year levels since arriving at Mango Hill. She has purchased a property in search of a tree change. We thank her for the work she has done while at Mango and wish her and her family the best of luck. We also farewell Ms McGuiness as she has been promoted to Acting Head of Department in a Metro North school. We know she will be fabulous and wish her all the best. We welcome Ms Nat Kosta to class 4G.
Prep Outdoor Learning Area (Astro-Turf)
Work to upgrade and fix the Prep outside area is finally commencing. The area will be sectioned, levelled, astro-turfed and include sandstone seating. The contractor will cordon off some areas and will need access to our Kindergarten carpark. At times, the work may be noisy and disruptive but we are excited to finally have the area safe and back in use again. We also understand paths may be somewhat blocked and we may have to use different routes in and out of our school.
Swale Drain (drain between multipurpose court and senior playground)
We will be installing a concrete swale drain to replace the existing natural drain. The area currently does not drain well and the water sits and stagnates making it very difficult to maintain. This one is not as exciting for everyone but it is a much-needed improvement to our facility.
We acknowledge there will be some inconvenience over the next couple of weeks but hopefully the end result will be worth it!
Reporting
As we begin to approach the end of term, students are completing assessments and teachers are busy finalising report cards, ready to be sent out in Week 1 of next term. This year, you may notice some updates to your child’s report card. Behaviour and effort are now reported using a consistent approach, based on the K–12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework. Please see below.
Some learning areas will include both a level of achievement and an effort rating, while others will include an effort rating only, with achievement reported in Semester 2. Please refer to the Deputy Principal sections of this newsletter as they will unpack what your child’s report card will include. More reporting details will be shared in upcoming newsletters. The school will also be holding a parent/carer information session to be held on Monday 23 June at 8.30am - 9.15am in the Wandani Centre. We encourage you to attend.
The five-point scales below, will be used to report on student achievement in Prep to Year 2 and then Year 3 to Year 6.
Senior Choir
Senior Choir Wins Gold!
Our amazing Senior Choir took part in the Choral Fanfare Festival, a special event for Queensland state schools that celebrates singing and school choirs. Our students performed beautifully and were awarded a Gold for their outstanding singing!
Choral Fanfare gives students the chance to sing in front of expert judges, listen to other choirs, and share their love of music. The day ended with our choir enjoying a fun break in the sunshine—relaxing, laughing, and bonding as a team.
A big thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers—your support helped the day run smoothly and made the experience even more enjoyable for our students.
We’re so proud of their wonderful performance and fantastic team spirit!

Spelling Bee

Focus of the Week
This week in Care Class we will be focusing on Care for Learning by being regulated and knowing what it looks like to be regulated. Self-regulation is managing tension from environmental stressors and the ability to return to a calm state.
It is important to be able to identify how you feel and be able to communicate these needs to others. Throughout the day your feelings might fluctuate, and it is okay to be at different points on the Ready Scale. What matters is being able to identify how you feel and what strategies work for you to self-regulate.
Reading at Mango
Reading fluency is generally defined as having three components:
accuracy, the sounding out of words with minimal errors;
rate, the effortless and automatic recognition and production of a word;
and prosody, which refers to the way readers use appropriate rhythm, tone, pitch, pauses and stresses while reading.
Fluency is an outcome
When students are first learning how to read, many of their cognitive resources are utilised in decoding individual words. As they become skilled readers and recognise words automatically, word reading becomes more fluent, allowing more cognitive resources to be applied to the task of comprehending connected text

iPad information session for parents and carers reminder
Wednesday 4 June 5.00pm - 5.30pm
We will step you through what is needed to be iPad ready for next term. This session is pitched at adults so please make alternate arrangements for children where possible. For any children who do need to attend, we ask that they remain seated with you throughout the session.
Hearing screeners
On Monday this week you will have received an email outlining the opportunity to have a hearing screener in Term 3 for a fee of $20. Consent forms were also sent home on Monday and if you’d like your child to participate, please return the forms by Friday 20 June. Invoices will be sent out as paperwork is received. If you did not receive an email on Monday, please let the office know so they can update any contact details.
Before school expectations
When children are waiting with parents before 8.15am, they are expected to remain with you at all times. From 8.00am, the prep undercover area is a supervised area for students without parents and carers at that time and we ask that students with parents stay out of this area at this time. Please remind your children that before school is not time for running around or playing games. It’s a great time to sit and read or talk together. Thank you for your support in setting our students up for a calm and positive start to the day.
Prep Reporting
We report in line with K – 12 Framework requirements, aligned to the Australian Curriculum version 9. For English, Maths and Health and Physical Education (HPE), students have been taught and assessed so you’ll see a summary of learning, an effort rating, and a level of achievement. Other subjects are experienced and for these, you will see a summary of learning and an effort rating only.

This year, you may notice slight changes to your child’s report card as we move to the K – 12 Framework, aligned to the Australian Curriculum version 9. For some Learning Areas, students have been taught and assessed so you’ll see a summary of learning, an effort rating, and a level of achievement. Other subjects were taught but will be assessed in Semester 2. In these cases, you’ll see a summary of learning and an effort rating only. Please refer to the table below that outlines this in more detail for Year 1.
Bumping up our Informative Texts
Students in 1E have been doing a fantastic job this term of ‘bumping up’ their writing. To do this, students have not only written simple sentences with correct sentence boundary punctuation but have also included a range of adjectives and precise verbs to add detail. 1E and Mrs Singh have created these excellent anchor charts to support making the learning visible.

Have a great week everyone!

Our School Day
Our school day begins with the first bell at 8:15am, giving students time to unpack, connect with friends and staff, and ease into their morning routines. The second bell rings at 8:30am, signalling the start of formal learning and when the roll is marked.
Arriving by 8:15am helps your child start the day calmly and confidently, fully prepared for the learning ahead. We kindly ask that all students are at school by this time so they can make the most of every learning opportunity. If your child arrives after 8:30am, please collect a late slip from the office before heading to class so we can update the roll accordingly.
Regular and on-time attendance plays a big role in your child’s success at school—every day counts!

Street Science
Last week, our budding scientists were amazed by the incredible team from Street Science. The cohort experiment session held in the Piazza had students "oohing" and "aahing" in awe at just how exciting science can be.
During the demonstration, students explored the concept of heat energy transfer in an engaging and interactive way. Following the show, they had the opportunity to conduct their own experiments, investigating how energy moves through different materials.
It was a scienterrific experience for all involved!

Year 4 News
I was discussing with a parent this week at a meeting we were having, how helpful and beneficial it was to have the opportunity to build a strong relationship between home and school. Building a strong and respectful partnership helps everyone be in a good position to share information to support your child’s learning, development and wellbeing.
It is true that when everyone is working together, your child is likely to have a positive attitude towards school. Together, you and your child's teacher will be working from a strength of understanding so that problems can be dealt with while they are still small. This helps everyone to move forward positively.
Communication Processes
- Parent Teacher Interviews are conducted twice a year/ once a semester. If you missed being able to organise that at either the end of Term1/beginning of Term 2, please make contact with your child’s teacher and organise a meeting should you wish to meet and have a conversation about how your child is going at school.
If you wish to organise a meeting with your child’s teacher, please email them and request a meeting, offering a suitable meeting time. Class teacher emails are included in the class newsletter sent home at the beginning of each term. The team in the office will be only too happy to help with this information should you require it. Please remember that mornings are very busy and the class teacher is welcoming students for the day and starting the teaching for the day. The start of the school day is not the time for a conversation, but it could be the time to identify with the class teacher that you would like to organise a time to meet. The class teacher will then follow up with you.
- Report Cards are provided twice a year – one for each semester. Semester 1 report cards will be sent home at the beginning of Term 3 and Semester 2 report cards will be sent home at the end of Term 4.
- Term Newsletter – sent home at the beginning of each term
- Fortnightly newsletter – sent with class updates

Why Mathematical Modelling Matters for Students
Mathematical modelling helps students connect classroom Maths to real life. It’s about using Maths to solve everyday problems—like planning events, budgeting, or predicting outcomes.
By learning to model real situations, students build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It shows that Maths isn’t just for tests—it’s a tool for understanding and improving the world.
Whether in Science, business, or daily life, modelling prepares students for the future and helps them make smart, informed decisions.
