Welcome back to Term 2! We hope everyone had a restful break and is feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting chapter of learning and growth. This term promises to be full of wonderful opportunities, engaging lessons, and memorable experiences for all our students. As always, we look forward to working in partnership with our teachers, parents, and learners to make this term a truly successful one. Together, we can continue to build a vibrant, inclusive, and inspiring school community. Let’s make Term 2 a great one!
We’d like to continue our pleasing progress from Term 1 by building on these successes. It’s been encouraging to see a noticeable reduction in student behaviour incidents, as well as an increase in student attendance across the school. These positive trends are a reflection of the strong partnerships between home and school, and the collective efforts of our staff, supportive families, and engaged students. Let’s keep this momentum going and work together to make Term 2 even more successful!
Uniforms and Attendance
Wearing our school uniform with pride helps to create a strong sense of identity and belonging within our school community. It encourages unity, promotes equality, and reflects the high standards we set for ourselves. We also want to remind families of the importance of regular attendance—being at school every day ensures students don’t miss out on valuable learning and helps them stay connected socially and emotionally. Let’s continue to work together to support our students in wearing their uniform proudly and attending school every day, ready to learn, achieve and grow.
Communication
We always encourage open and respectful communication between home and school. If you have any concerns, issues, or even compliments, we kindly ask that you follow the appropriate channels: start by speaking with your child’s teacher, then the Deputy Principal if needed, and finally the Principal. This ensures matters are addressed thoughtfully and in the right context. We'd also like to remind families that our school Facebook page is a space for sharing positive news and celebrating our community. It is not the appropriate place to raise concerns, and using social media to air issues can be unhelpful and disheartening. Let’s continue to work together with kindness, respect, and in the spirit of partnership.
Staffing
We welcome Emma Huston and Jordan Olsen (from week 5) back to Team Mango. Both teachers have been on maternity leave. They will teach on Year 2 taking over from Chloe Langham. We wish Chloe all the best of luck with her impending birth. We also welcome Jenny Anstee on Year 3, who comes to us with wealth of experience.
Term Two Overview
Please find attached, again, the Term 2 Overview outlining important dates. These dates are subject to change so please read the newsletter each week to stay up-to-date with the latest news and events.
ANZAC DAY - School Service – Thursday 24 April
As we gather to commemorate ANZAC Day, we are reminded of the courage and sacrifice displayed by the men and women who served or are currently serving our country in the armed forces. We also acknowledge the families who supported those who served or are serving. Their contributions are a testament to the strength and resilience of our nation. To all who have served in the past and are currently serving for all Australians, thank you.
On Thursday 24 April we will be conducting the Mango Hill State School, ANZAC Day service in Gigum Hall. This will be a whole school event to recognise our service men and women. We welcome our wider school community, parents and carers to attend this service, particularly current or former service men and women. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their service.
ANZAC DAY - Friday 25 April
This year Mango Hill State School will be involved in the Pine Rivers RSL Sub Branch traditional ANZAC Day march.
The Pine Rivers RSL sub branch is limiting school participation to 50 students and therefore Student Council Representatives from Yr 4 to Yr 6 will be invited to represent our school.
- Student Council Representatives are asked to assemble on ANZAC Ave (road will be closed) in front of Kallangur Fair Shopping Centre at 7:45 am. Signage will be placed with our school name on the roadway. The march step off will occur at 8.15 am.
- Please note Anzac Avenue will be closed between 7:00 am and 10:30 am from Old Gympie Road to Duffield Road.
- Police will be closing Storey Road, from Old Gymie Rd to School Road, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.
- Students will need to be collected by parents/guardians at Storey Road accessible via School Road after the march. Please note Sylvan Court will not be accessible.
Once students are with their parents, they are free to move to the Memorial Garden for the main service. During the main service School Captains will be laying a wreath. The RSL would like us to remember that this is a commemoration, not a celebration and they request parents do not take photos during this time. Dignity and respect are the order of the day and if students are wearing medals to represent a family member, those medals are to be worn on the right-hand side.
P&C News
The P&C is looking to hold a sausage sizzle on election day (Saturday 3 May 2025), from 9.00 am until approx 2.00 pm (unless sold out earlier), but we can't do it without your support. If anyone is able to volunteer an hour of their time to help us out on the day, we would greatly appreciate it. Please register your interest by sending your contact details and availability to Belinda Todman at PandCPresidentMHSS@outlook.com
Parking Regulations From the Moreton Bay City Council
Parking Regulations - To Ensure the Safety of Students, Parents, Caregivers, Teachers, and other members of the community.
With Term 2 now upon us, I wanted to take the opportunity to communicate that to successfully achieve the desired outcome of a safe school community, the City of Moreton Bay provides regulated parking education prior to and during the commencement of each school term. This includes identifying risk levels tailored to each school’s unique circumstance.
Regulated parking patrols will commence at programmed schools, targeting pick up and drop off timeframes to ensure vehicles are parked lawfully.
The City of Moreton Bay regulates parking or stopping of vehicles on footpaths, bicycle paths, shared paths, dividing strips or nature strips. Please note that vehicles that are parked with two wheels on the footpath/nature strip and two wheels on the road is not considered as a lawful parking practice.
Council is legally obliged to enforce these regulations, and our Proactive School Safety Patrol Program contributes to this enforcement.
During Proactive School Safety Patrols, enforcement of unlawful parking is applied by obtaining photographic evidence and issuing a penalty infringement notice.
Council prefers that vehicle drivers are educated.
For more information in relation to parking regulation and expectation please see attached our Parking in School Zones Fact Sheet. Additionally, we recommend reviewing the City of Moreton Bay’s published material regarding parking Parking - City of Moreton Bay
Online Safety
The internet connects us with the world, including family and friends locally and overseas, through messages, live video chat and even playing online games. Being online can be positive and fun and help children and young people learn and connect with others. But sometimes it can expose children and young people to risks.
We have organised a parent/carer information session led by ThinkUKnow – an Australian evidence-based education program led by the Australian Federal Police.
Date: 13 May 2025
Time: 5:00 PM
Location: Mango Hill State School – Wandani
The session will cover:
- What young people SEE, SAY and DO online
- The challenges they may face
- How to report and get help if things go wrong
Our students will also participate in a student session presented by ThinkUKnow during the school day.
Volunteers Induction
We hope you can join us at our next Voluneers Induction on Wednesday 30 April at 8.30am.

Care Class and Focus of the Week
This week in Care Class we will be focusing on Care for Self. We will explore our Team Mango Ready Scale.
The Ready scale is a tool that can help us better manage our feelings and emotions. When we are able to identify our feelings and where we are on the Ready Scale, we are able to use strategies to make ourselves feel better and get back into our learning.
We want students to be ready … for the world, for play, for sport, for dancing, for life!
Reading at Mango
What is Reading?
Reading is the process of decoding (to assign a sound to the letter/s in a written word and blend them together) and making meaning from text.
Unlike speaking and listening, reading is not a naturally developed skill—all students need to be explicitly taught to read.
Teaching students to read is a priority at Mango Hill State School. Throughout 2025, we will be sharing information about reading via this newsletter as well as through in-person parent sessions. Below you will find a graphic from the Department of Education’s Reading Position Statement about The Simple View of Reading. This theoretical framework guides the work we do and decisions we make in regards to reading.

Welcome to Term 2!
It has been wonderful to see our Prep friends back this week and ready to learn.
Learning in English
This term in English we are learning to share information about animals using words and pictures. This involves our Prep learners constructing sentences to share information verbally, for example, “A spider has eight legs”, along with using words and images to convey information. In Week 4 we have animals coming to visit in the Geckos Wildlife Incursion. This will provide your child with real-life experience of some Australian animals and ideas to support their learning in English. Please ensure you have returned permission and payment for your child to participate in this exciting event.
Free Vision Screeners
This term your child has the opportunity to have free vision screening done at school in Weeks 8 and 9. A poster displaying the QR code to complete a consent form for this will be displayed at the entrance of your child’s classroom next week and an email will come home next week with further details. Early detection and intervention related to conditions impacting your child’s vision can lead to improved outcomes. To secure a spot for your child, please complete the consent form by Sunday 25 May.

Welcome Back!
Welcome back to all of our Year 1 families and welcome to the families starting at Mango this term. It has been so lovely connecting with you and your children and hearing about everyone’s holidays. I heard many stories of camping, going to the movies, sleep ins and a lot of chocolate from the Easter Bunny!
This term we have 47 days, so let’s make every one count. Please ensure you send your child to school every day unless they are ill. It is also important they attend for the whole day; this includes being on time for 8:15 am and not picking your child up early unless necessary.
Morning Meeting
At Mango Hill SS, we follow the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM). One of the aspects of BSEM that is consistent across the school is the morning meeting or morning circle. This time may look slightly different in each classroom, but the purpose behind it is the same. It is a practice that supports student engagement, builds wellbeing and creates a positive classroom community. In addition to creating a sense of safety and belonging, a predictable morning routine evokes positive emotions. Below is an example of a morning meeting. I encourage you to ask your child what their morning meeting looks like and how it makes them feel.
Have a wonderful week everyone,
Evan Barrett
Deputy Principal –Year 1

Welcome back to Term 2!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break and is recharged for the term ahead. A very special welcome to our new families—welcome to Team Mango!
This week, your child’s teacher will send home a class newsletter detailing the Term 2 curriculum and other key information. Please read it thoroughly and reach out to your child’s class or specialist teacher with any questions.
During Week 1 we are reviewing our school expectations. You can support from home by helping your child to arrive at school on time each day, neatly dressed in their uniform and with all required items (hat, lunch, water bottle, etc.).
Finally, a reminder: Year 2 classes have catch-up swimming lessons in Week 2, with 2E also having an extra session in Week 1. Please watch for further communication from your child’s teacher to ensure they are well prepared for their swimming day.
I have loved seeing everyone’s smiling faces this week. 2C had a fun filled time reconnecting with their peers as they completed their holiday scavenger hunt!
I am looking forward to a term of growing, learning, and achieving together. Have a wonderful week ahead.
Jessica Burnett
Deputy Principal- Year 2
jburn289@eq.edu.au

I hope everyone had a restful and refreshing break. It’s been wonderful to see so many smiling faces back on campus for what promises to be an exciting and action-packed Term 2. From day one, our students have hit the ground running, diving straight into their learning—well done to all!
Science Street Incursion
In Week 6 of this term (Thursday 29 May and Friday 30 May), we’re thrilled to welcome the team from Science Street for an exciting incursion for our Year 3 students. The day will kick off with a dynamic 45-minute Signature Science Show, focusing on the fascinating world of heat energy. Following the show, each class will participate in a hands-on 60-minute workshop, where students will explore chemical reactions through interactive experiments.
The cost of this incursion is $18.00, with payment and consent due by Wednesday 21 May. Please note that students will not be able to participate unless both payment and consent have been received.
Deputy Principal
It was a pleasure getting to know the students and some of you during Term 1.
It was impressive to see such a commitment to learning from both teachers and students during Term 1. Everyone worked very hard last term and it is a point of celebration to see how students have grown both academically and social/emotionally. I am looking forward to seeing continued growth in Term 2.
Communication
Thank you to everyone who has met, or is still to meet with the teachers at our Parent Teacher Interviews. We appreciate your commitment to making connections as we desire to develop good strong relationships between home and school.
By the end of this week, your child’s class teacher will have emailed a class newsletter outlining learning and other information relevant to Term 2.
Overview of events for Term 2
Year 4 students have a number of events occurring throughout the term. Here is an overview for you. Details for each event will be communicated closer to each event.
NB: If you have a child in Beginners Band and have not yet received information about the event. Please contact either myself (Barbara Cornford – bcorn3@eq.edu.au) or Mrs. Emma Nicolopoulos (eshap1@eq.edu.au).

Welcome Back!
Welcome back, amazing Year 5 students! How lovely to see the smiles, new haircuts and growth spurts. Thank you to students for their enthusiasm and readiness to be back for Term 2, with some “welcome back” activities, and jumping into reading, writing and Maths to start the week.
Curriculum
This term in English, students will deepen their understanding of the world around them by reading a variety of informative texts, exploring natural disasters, and how authors present informative and technical information effectively. By analysing how information is structured, students will develop the skills to create and record their own multimodal news reports, communicating their research in an engaging and informative way. In Maths, students will be deepening their understanding of numbers and will plan a fundraising activity to generate a profit. This might be the beginning of some entrepreneurial ventures!
Camp
Camp dates for Year 5 are 4 – 8 August, which is in Term 3, Week 4. Students will attend in two groups, either Monday – Wednesday (4 – 6August), or Wednesday – Friday (6 – 8 August). Class groups have not been finalised as to which ones will attend which part of the week. More information about camp will be sent home early this term.
Have a great long weekend coming up, as we recognise and remember our ANZACs.

From Geckoes Wildlife to Starlab to an exciting Australia Zoo excursion, there’s so much to look forward to both inside and outside the classroom. Did you know some Australian animals glow in the dark? Or that the moon has no wind? And did you know cyclones always spin the same direction in the Southern Hemisphere? Ask your child what fun facts they’ve discovered lately—you might learn something new too! It’s shaping up to be a term full of wonder, discovery and achievements.
Hub News
A very special congratulations to Jackson of 6H for completing AR at the end of last term. What an impressive effort!
Reminder- The Hub is open each morning from 8:15–8:30 am and each afternoon from 2:45–3:00 pm. Please help your child remember their library bag if they’d like to borrow a book. You might even like to accompany them before or after school and choose a book you can read together this ANZAC day long weekend.
