Term 1 Week 10 2025

As we enter the last week of Term One, I’d like to extend my thanks to our students for their efforts in enacting the Four Cares. As a result, we have lots to celebrate. I shared some of these celebrations in last week’s newsletter. A highlight of my term has been catching up with students attending the Brain Freeze Care Class group. Please note this initiative will be called the Chill and Care Club from Term 2. Even our youngest students can tell me all about the Four Cares and what they are doing to enact these. I’d also like to thank our teachers for their efforts and hard work to ensure there is an unrelenting drive to provide the best teaching and learning environment for all Mango Hill State School students. At Mango Hill, the staff culture of learning is second to none. Lastly, thank you to our parents and carers for their continued support and for working in partnership with us. We are looking forward to progressing these partnerships in Term Two and beyond.
In Term Two we will continue to progress the implementation of version 9 of the Australian Curriculum for English, Maths and HPE. We will also continue to implement our approach to the teaching of reading. This includes having a whole school approach to ‘word reading’. In Prep – Year 2 this includes phonics (sounds and the letters that represent these sounds) and in Years 3 – 6 this includes morphology (smaller meaningfull units of words).
Term Two the weather will be cold, now is a good time to check if last year’s jumper/jacket still fits. Students are asked to wear the winter jacket/jumper and refrain from wearing other colours. If your child chooses to wear long pants, stockings or leggings, navy blue is required. Should you be experiencing difficulty with outfitting your child in the correct uniform, please reach out to the school and we will assist. Full black shoes are also required.
ANZAC DAY - School Service – Thursday 24 April – Save the date.
On Thursday 24 April we will be conducting the Mango Hill State School, ANZAC Day service in Gigum Hall. This will be a whole school event to recognise our service men and women. We welcome our wider school community, parents and carers to attend this service, particularly current or former service men and women. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their service.
Date: Thursday 24 April
Time: 9.00 am
Location: Gigum Hall.
ANZAC DAY - Friday 25 April (Term 2 Week 1)
This year Mango Hill State School will be involved in the Pine Rivers RSL Sub Branch traditional ANZAC Day march.
The Pine Rivers RSL sub branch is limiting school participation to 50 students and therefore Student Council Representatives from Yr 4 to Yr 6 will be invited to represent our school.
- Student Council Representatives are asked to assemble on ANZAC Ave (road will be closed) in front of Kallangur Fair Shopping Centre at 7:45am. Signage will be placed with our school name on the roadway. The march step off will occur at 8.15am.
- Please note Anzac Avenue will be closed between 7:00 am and 10:30 am from Old Gympie Road to Duffield Road.
- Police will be closing Storey Road, from Old Gymie Rd to School Road, from 08:30 am to 09:30 am.
- Students will need to be collected by parents/guardians at Storey Road accessible via School Road after the march. Please note Sylvan Court will not be accessible.
Once students are with their parents, they are free to move to the Memorial Garden for the main service. During the main service School Captains will be laying a wreath. The RSL would like us to remember that this is a commemoration, not a celebration and they request parents do not take photos during this time. Dignity and respect are the order of the day and if students are wearing medals to represent a family member, those medals are to be worn on the right-hand side.
Term 2 Term Overview
Term Two is going to be a bumper term. Attached is the Term Two overview. Please be mindful that dates are subject to change and further events may be added to the overview. We ask that you read the newsletter to stay up-to-date.
Bike Racks
We strongly encourage students to lock their bikes/scooters daily to minimise the likelihood of these being stolen. Late last year, some scooters were stolen, even with the bike cage locked. Individual locks are highly recommended.
Mango Hill State School Coffee Cups
Easter Bonnet Parade
Student’s will be given the opportunity to make their Easter Bonnets in their classroom.
I wish everyone a wonderful break. I’m looking forward to not making school lunches and not being on such a tight routine as well as catching up with my family. I hope our students, families and staff also manage to make time for their loved ones and use this time to recharge the batteries before Term Two commences. Please be safe on the roads and near water. Happy Easter everyone!
Lastly, the first day of Term Two commences on Tuesday 22 April, 2025 as the Monday is a public holiday.
