This week and early next week, we are holding our Awards Ceremonies for each year level, except Prep. Our Preppies celebrated their first year of school in a ceremony on Monday. We are all so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to see them continue to flourish in Year 1. Congratulations to all students who are receiving awards. Your hard work and efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thank you to parents/carers who have or are attending these ceremonies. We appreciate your continued support and for making the time to celebrate with us during this busy time of the year.
Year 6 Graduation
This evening our Year 6s will be attending their graduation. We have mixed emotions at this time of the year. We are excited about our Year 6 students heading to high school but will miss their presence in our school. Most of our Year 6 students have been excellent role models for the rest of our students and have enacted the Four Cares daily. They have involved themselves in all aspects of the school and have really brought vibrancy to our school. On behalf of all staff, I wish our leaving students the very best with high school and know their time at Mango Hill State School has provided them with the foundation to flourish in high school and beyond. We look forward to hearing about their successes in high school and beyond. We formally farewell our Year 6 students in our Farewell Assembly on Thursday 12 December at 8.45am. As per tradition, there will also be the Year 6 Walk Out at approximately 2.15pm that afternoon.
Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all students in Years 3 – 6 who participated in the swimming carnivals, whether it be novelty events or 50 metre swim events. We appreciated you taking the time to have a go. A big thanks to our PE Team for their meticulous planning and hard work to hold these events.
Carols by Candlelight
This Monday 9 December, we will holding our Carols event. Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 students are involved. This event will be held in the Piazza. We welcome your attendance.
Annual Implementation Plan
Each Queensland State School is required to have an Annual Implementation Plan. This plan is finalised in February. Staff have been involved in formulating our school’s proposed plan. Our proposed Annual Implementation Plan is centred on ‘implementing Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum with informed adjustments and effective pedagogy for learning and engagement’. The strategy on how we plan to do this is below.
Should you have any feedback, please email polla2@eq.edu.au by December 13, 2024.
Canteen
The final day for Canteen trading will be Wednesday 11 December. The menu will be limited in Week 11 as they wind down the stock for the break. Thank you very much for your support throughout the year.
Gift Vouchers are available to purchase for end of year gifts at the Cafe.
Community Hamper Donation
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter Mango Hill State School will be joining with Ray White North Lakes in their desire to support our local community.
Entry fee to our end of Year Disco in Week 11 will be a donation of food and useful items. These donations will be given to Ray White North Lakes to add to their community drive to support their 2024 charity, The Priority Project.
The Priority Project supports women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence in Southeast Queensland. Through collaboration with people in the real estate industry, safe housing is secured and ongoing safe tenancy support is provided.

This week in Care Class we will Care for Self by exploring how we can say goodbye in a respectful way. Sometimes saying goodbye to primary school friends can seem an incredibly daunting task, especially if students have known each other since they started school. It may help to reflect on and cherish the memories that we have made this year.
We will also learn how to transition respectfully in preparation for 2025. Students will become familiar with their new year-level environments including waiting areas, play areas, classrooms and bathrooms by walk-throughs of the areas and with a slideshow. The Meet the Teacher afternoon is scheduled for Wednesday Week 11 where students will join their new classmates and visit their new teacher and classroom.
CASUAL CLEANERS
We are looking for more casual cleaners to join our dedicated team of cleaners in 2025. Shifts will be from 4.00 -7.00am or 8.00am and 2.00-6.00pm. You will require a Blue Card, and be willing to complete a criminal history check. This is a casual position, so the number of hours will vary from week to week.
If this interests you, please email Andrea Gleeson aglee39@eq.edu.au for more details.
Uniform Shop
As we come to the end of term, in addition to our regular hours, the uniform shop will also be open on Tuesday morning next week. This is a great time to look at updating your uniform before the January rush. Please bring in your student to try on our sizes.
Our hours for the final week of term will be as follows.
Mon 8am-10:30am
Tue 8am-10:30am
Wed 1:30pm-4pm
Thu 1:30pm-4pm
Fri 8am-10:30am
Next year we are open two weeks before school goes back. From Jan 14 - Jan 17 inclusive you are able to book an appointment to purchase new uniforms if you want to try and avoid the lines. Appointments can be made at https://wearittomangohillss.simplybook.me/v2/
The week before school goes back, we will be open at various times for you to drop in at your convenience. Our hours will be as follows.
Mon Jan 20 - 9am-4pm
Tue Jan 21 - 2pm-5pm
Wed Jan 22 - 11am-4pm
Thu Jan 23 - 8am-1pm
Fri Jan 24 - 8am-2pm
We will then reopen on the first day of school at 8am on Jan 28.
While we are currently stocking some sizes of the Year 6 senior polo, our main shipment will arrive in January, when all sizes will be available.
If you are a new Prep parent starting next year you are also welcome to attend during our regular opening hours. We are currently out of size small hats, but these will be available again in January.
We also have a retail store located at 41 Kirby Road, Aspley. They operate regular retail hours and can be reached on 3263-5566.
We offer online orders. Orders can be placed through our website any time at www.wearitto.com.au/schools/mango-hill-state-school
Mango Hill State School - Schools - Wearitto Wearitto delivers high quality uniforms in a way that makes things easy for schools and parents. We create clothing for school, work and play. |

Celebration of learning
On Monday we held our Prep Celebration of Learning. It was wonderful to have family and friends coming together for this special event, where we recognised the growth and achievement of all of our learners. Thank you for your continued partnership throughout this first year of learning and we wish you all the best as your child moves up into Year 1.

End of Year Anxiety
Each term of the year presents its own challenges, but when we come to the end of Term 4 both parents /carers and students begin to think about ‘next year’. At the end of Term 4, there is often a mixture of excitement, feelings of achievement and looking forward to the holidays, combined with tiredness and perhaps being unsure or anxious about the upcoming change of routine.
This week and next week we will experience some changes in our routine.
Being tired at the end of the year doesn’t help when dealing with changes in the routine. This added to unknowns about the next year can result in some big feelings. Following are some ideas to consider using when helping your little person work through their feelings.
- Speak positively about the change
When you talk about the school transition, whether it’s with your child directly or with friends and family, try to speak enthusiastically and focus on the positives, such as the interesting things they will learn, the new friends they will make and the new routines they’ll establish.
- Acknowledge and discuss your child’s concerns
If your child has questions or concerns, rather than brushing them off with a “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine,” it’s important to acknowledge their concerns. Once you know what your child is feeling most anxious about, you can spend some time going over the details.
You can also look for storybooks that deal with the topic of starting preschool or changing schools, as reading together can be a great way to encourage your child to open up about his or her concerns. Some examples of books that deal with school and change include "Ming Goes To School" by Deirdre Sullivan
- Involve your child as much as possible
Actively involving your child in the preparations for the new year. Involve them in the transition process include shopping for new school supplies or clothes together, having them make a list of the things they are looking forward to - as well as any questions or concerns they may have.

Special Events Coming Up in Year 2
Report Cards and Growth Mindset
Report cards will be emailed home on Wednesday next week. They provide a great talking point for families to discuss with their children their strengths and celebrations as well as next steps. Report cards also provide a great opportunity to talk about effort and applying a growth mindset to new challenges and new learning.

Carols in the Piazza
The countdown is on! Join us for one of our final events of 2024: Carols by Candlelight, happening next Monday evening, from 5:00–6:30 pm in the Piazza.
Our talented Year 3 students have been working tirelessly to perfect their performances and are thrilled to share the stage with their peers from Years 1 and 5. It's going to be a night filled with festive cheer and wonderful music to kick off the holiday season.
And that's not all – I’ve heard whispers about a special guest making an appearance. Here’s a little hint: he’s jolly, wears a red suit, and sports a long white beard. Can you guess who?
Here’s the lineup of songs for our Year 3 performers.
- 3M, 3K, 3V, and 3S: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
- 3T, 3L, 3W, and 3B: Jingle Bell Rock
- 3G, 3C, and 3D: Go Santa Go
Thank you and Best wishes for the holidays
As we are close to wrapping up 2024, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your support throughout the year. Partnering with our Year 3 families has been an absolute privilege, and it’s been so rewarding to witness the incredible growth and achievements of our students.
Your encouragement and involvement have played a vital role in creating a positive and enriching environment for our young learners, and for that, I thank you.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, joyful, and restful holiday season. I look forward to reconnecting with you in 2025, as we begin another exciting year of learning and growth together.

Celebrations!
As assessment is finishing, our students have been celebrating their Year 4 journeys, adventures and highlights. It has been wonderful hearing and talking to students about what they are most proud of. Some of the highlights include making new friends, attending their first school camp, showing persistence and resilience when learning new concepts!
There will be lots of celebrations occurring over the next week. This includes our Awards Ceremony that will occur on Monday, as well as our Disco on Wednesday and class celebrations on Thursday Week 11.
I am looking forward to recognising the successful year our Year 4 cohort has had at these events!

Year 5 Students Excel at Mango Hill State School Market Place
This term, Year 5 students at Mango Hill State School participated in the exciting Market Place event, applying their skills in enterprise, budgeting, and financial planning. Each student received 600 Mango Hill Dollars to spend on products created by their peers, including handmade crafts and much more.
Students worked in teams to design and price their items, learning about profit and loss while developing marketing strategies. The event was a great success, offering a fun and practical way to conclude their Term 4 maths unit on financial math.
Congratulations to our Year 5 students for their creativity and hard work in making the Mango Hill Market Place a memorable experience!

Returning all books
Don’t forget we love seeing all of the Hub resources returned! There is still time, so please keep looking!
For those students who have lost, misplaced or damaged a Hub resource, we ask that the book is replaced. If the missing book is an AR book, this will need to be the exact title and author.
Accelerated Reader
Congratulations to those eager readers who have continued reading and quizzing, right up to the final moments of the term!
Well done to Harrison, Samrath and Roisin who have all finished AR. This means they have read and successfully quizzed right up to AR 9.0. What a fabulous achievement. Congratulations Harrison, Samrath and Roisin! Congratulations also to Raizel who has read 1 million words. Great work everyone!

National Track & Field – Lian N
Last week Lian represented Queensland at the National Track & Field championships in Sydney. After fantastic results at school, district, regional and state levels, this was the highest level of competition that students can attain. Lian being only the 2nd student ever from MHSS to make it to this level for Track & Field.
Lian competed in two events, Discus and Shot Put. Lian came 7th in Discus. With rain being a constant disruption, Lian was able to throw 35m, with the winner throwing 39m. In some amazing news, Lian won bronze in shotput with 11.71m.
For Lian, Nationals was an amazing experience, making so many new friends and learning a lot.
2024 MHSS Swimming Carnival Results
Congratulations to all competitors at both the 8-9yrs and 10-12yrs 2024 Mango Hill State School Swimming Carnival. Special congratulations must go to the Barton House who for the first time in 6 years took home the MHSS Swimming Champions Shield.
Overall Results
- 1st Barton: 539 points
- 2nd Walker: 475 points
- 3rd Flynn: 421 points
It was great to see students enjoying the day with the splash zone a big hit once again. It was also great to see students trying their best in the different events and supporting one another. The level of competitiveness was high but this did not stop the wonderful caring of others after races had finished. Big smiles and congratulations were a highlight.
A big thank you must go to our wonderful groundsman team for all their work in setting up and to all the staff for their assistance on both days. We were also very fortunate to have so many Year 6 student helpers as well as students from Mango Hill State Secondary College. I am sure they loved the opportunity to be in the water assisting some of our swimmers but their help made the day so much more enjoyable for the students and easier for MHSS staff as well.
Early in Term 1, 2024, 10-12 year old students who finished in the top 3 for 50m final events and have achieved a time under the Pine Rivers District Schools Swimming suggested qualifying times, will receive nomination forms for the Pine Rivers District Swimming Carnival to be held at the Lawnton Swimming Pool.
