Community News
Over the next two and a half weeks our school will be holding many events. During these times, school traffic will be busier than normal. Please continue to show patience and kindness towards each other and please be considerate to our school neighbours by not parking on their property or over their driveways. It’s best to plan ahead and arrive a little earlier. If at all possible, actively travelling to these events is the best option.
If you must drive, please adhere to the signage.
End of Year Dance Concert
On Monday we held our Prep and Year 6 Dance Concert. Thank you to all performing students and thank you to parents for supporting this event. A huge shout out to Mrs Kostoglou, Ms Almond and Ms Morrell for your commitment and dedication to our Arts Program. Thank you to our Prep and Year 6 team. Thank you also to Mrs Barrett and Mrs Munko.
On Thursday 28 and Friday 29 November we will be holding our school swimming carnival. Good luck to all students who are entering an event. A big thank you our PE team for their work associated with holding these carnivals. They put so much effort into making sure these run smoothly.
Student Council
Last Friday our Student Council organised a free dress day for our students. We raised $1536.70 by gold coin donation. This money is going towards Cancer Council. Well done Team Mango!
Ceremonies
On Monday 2 December, we will be holding the Prep Celebration of Learning at 8.45am. This event will celebrate students completing their first year of schooling. On Wednesday 4 December, we will be holding our Year 6 Awards ceremony at 9.45am. Congratulations to all students who are successful in receiving an award. We will also be holding our Year 6 Graduation on Wednesday 4 December. This is a really special occasion for our students and their families. I can’t wait to celebrate this event with you.
Week 11
The Monday and Tuesday of Week 11 may look a little different for our students. Like other years, students may be involved in some activities with a range of teachers. On Wednesday of Week 11, we will be holding an in-school disco for each year level. Students are asked to bring a donation of goods on the Wednesday or Thursday morning which will provide support for families in need. On the Wednesday of Week 11, students will also meet their next year’s teacher. Some of our new teachers won’t be in attendance but students will still find out a little bit about them.
Staffing 2025
It is with mixed emotions I inform our school community; Ms Kylie Vaughan has been promoted to an acting principal position for 2025. Ms Vaughan is a foundation staff member and will be missed. She has impacted on the lives of so many students, families and staff. We wish her all the best.
We welcome Mrs Jess Burnett to the role of Deputy Principal for 2025. Mrs Burnett is currently working at Mango Hill State Secondary College.
Farewell Parade and Class Party
On Thursday 12 December, we will hold our Farewell Parade at 8.45am. This will provide us with an opportunity to farewell leaving staff and our Year 6 students. We will also hold our Year 6 Walk Out. This will commence at approx 2.15pm.
Class Party Day will be also held on the Thursday. Teachers will communicate further communication.
Community Hamper Donation
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter Mango Hill State School will be joining with Ray White North Lakes in their desire to support our local community.
Entry fee to our end of Year Disco in Week 11 will be a donation of food and useful items. These donations will be given to Ray White North Lakes to add to their community drive to support their 2024 charity, The Priority Project.
The Priority Project supports women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence in Southeast Queensland. Through collaboration with people in the real estate industry, safe housing is secured and ongoing safe tenancy support is provided.

Student Code of Conduct Consultation Process
Every Queensland state school is required to have a Student Code of Conduct. This is the school’s behaviour policy, with information about school rules, consequences and processes for addressing bullying and the use of technology.
Every four years, Queensland state schools are required to update their Student Code of Conduct. This process for Mango Hill State School has included consultation with staff, students, the P&C, the School Council and finally the wider community through the newsletter.
The Student Code of Conduct includes nine mandated sections:
- Purpose
- Contact Information
- Endorsement
- Contents
- Whole School Approach to Discipline
- Disciplinary Consequences
- School Policies
- Restrictive Practices
- Critical Incidents.
To review the Student Code of Conduct (2025 – 2028- Draft) please follow the link.

This week in Care Class we will Care for Learning by reminding ourselves about resilience, reflecting on our year of learning and thinking about our Awards Ceremonies and celebrations that are coming up.
We will be learning about self-reflection. Self-reflection is taking the time to think about something that we have done or learnt. We will be thinking about everything that we have achieved and learnt this year. There has been a lot! It may help to write down some of your accomplishments to show how much you have achieved.
Next week and Week 11, we will be celebrating our End of Year Awards. These awards celebrate our effort and behaviour towards our learning this semester. Not everyone will receive an award on this parade and while we might be sad, it is okay. We have all made great progress and achieved so much this year so we should all be proud.
CASUAL CLEANERS
We are looking for more casual cleaners to join our dedicated team of cleaners in 2025. Shifts will be from 4.00 -7.00am or 8.00am and 2.00-6.00pm. You will require a Blue Card, and be willing to complete a criminal history check. This is a casual position, so the number of hours will vary from week to week.
If this interests you, please email Andrea Gleeson aglee39@eq.edu.au for more details.

Performing Arts concert
This week started with a bang with our amazing Prep learners performing in their first school concert. Our Preppies looked amazing in their Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Dinosaur, Dog and Teddy costumes – thank you parents for your time and effort with this. A big thank you to Ms Kostoglou, Mrs Morell and Mrs Almond for their work in preparing routines for our students and to our classroom teachers and teacher aides for supporting the rehearsals. Special thanks go to all the families who were able to attend. It was lovely to have time with you and the Prep classes to celebrate this special time of the year.
Celebration of learning
On Monday 2 December at 8.45am we will have our Prep Celebration of Learning. At this event, we will acknowledge our learners’ commitment and excellence, inviting students up on stage with their class teachers. After this, parents and carers are invited to the classrooms for some follow up activities. We look forward to seeing you there.

Year One Literacy Block
I am so proud of my Year 1 teaching team. I want to acknowledge the wonderful teamwork and the great teaching which occurs in our Year 1 classes every day. Their dedication to teaching and learning has resulted in every student learning and achieving improved learning outcomes. Our Year 1 students are truly ready for their next step… Year 2.
This week I saw:
IH: Students working from a daily structure, making connections between reading, spelling and writing. The students were successfully recognising familiar sounds, remembering the letters which made these sounds. They were able to break up the sounds of each word and then write them eg: /b/ /ir/ /d/ - bird. They read these words in sentences eg:; The red bird was first in line on the fence.’ and then write the sentence without copying from the board. Well done IH. I loved your enthusiasm for your learning!!
1O: Students in 1O spent the week learning to master an aspect of writing – writing an opinion. Each day they had opportunities to consolidate their understanding of what an opinion was and both recognise and distinguish fact from opinion in texts. Again, students were highly engaged and happy to give an opinion. Below are some photos of the work throughout the week ending with a finished product. Go 1O!! What you can see is an example of finished student work.

Getting Ready for Year 3
As we approach the final weeks of the school year, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on all the growth, achievements, and friendships that have flourished throughout the year. It’s also a busy period, with lots of exciting events and transitions on the horizon. Here are some tips to help you and your child navigate this time with confidence and positivity.
- Take a moment to celebrate the milestones your child has achieved this year—whether it’s learning a tricky concept, making new friends, or showing kindness in the playground. These little victories remind us all of the progress made throughout the year.
- With the buzz of end-of-year activities, it’s easy to let routines slip. Maintaining consistent, predictable routines where possible (particularly around bedtimes) is key.
- For our Year 2 students, moving to Year 3 is an exciting step! Talk with your child about the new opportunities awaiting them, and reassure them about any worries they may have. It’s normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves! All of our teachers will be taking their classes through the Year 3 buildings and playgrounds over the next couple of weeks to get them ready for next year.
Check out these superstars from 2P and 2L who have been getting ready for Year 3 by giving the Year 3 playground a test ride

Join us for Christmas Carols in the Piazza!
Mark your calendars! On Monday, 9 December, we will host our annual Christmas Carols event from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in the Piazza. This festive tradition brings together our school community to celebrate the joy of the holiday season with music and cheer.
Our talented Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 students will take the stage to perform beloved Christmas classics. Here’s what our Year 3 classes will be singing this year.
- 3M, 3K, 3V, and 3S: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
- 3T, 3L, 3W, and 3B: Jingle Bell Rock
- 3G, 3C, and 3D: Go Santa Go
This event is a highlight of our school calendar and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the season together. Don’t forget to don your favourite Christmas attire, bring your holiday spirit, and sing along to your favourite tunes!
We can’t wait to see you there and share the magic of Christmas as a community.
Year 3 Swimming Carnival Reminder
Get ready for a splash of fun! Our Year 3 Swimming Carnival is happening this Friday 29 November at the Deception Bay Swimming Pool. Here’s everything you need to know.
Event Details
- Arrival: Students should attend class as usual at 8:30 am, where rolls will be marked.
- Attire: Students are encouraged to come to school wearing their sun-safe swimming gear. Thongs are allowed for the day.
- Kiosk: The pool kiosk will be open, but please note there may be longer wait times during busy periods.
- Activities: Along with the main events, students can enjoy the splash pool during their allocated times.
- Return: Students will return to school at approximately 2:00 pm.
Let’s make it a day to remember! We wish all our Year 3 students a fantastic time at the carnival—cheering, swimming, and celebrating their achievements.

Cybersafety
Our teachers are continuing to educate our students about the importance of cybersafety. Many of our students are engaging with social media outside of school. The way that they communicate and interact with each other online, as well as the content they create and consume via social media, can have a significant impact on their time at school.
Teachers have been talking to their classes about the following.
- Caring for others, including use of appropriate language on social media and in group chats. Once a comment is posted, it doesn’t ‘disappear’, even if deleted.
- Respect other people's wishes when they have been told they don't like to be 'spammed' or being added to group chats without consent.
- Care for self - it is ok to take a break from social media if it becoming a bit overwhelming to manage.
We encourage all parents to echo this advice to the children, particularly if they engage with peers online.
Learning in Year 4
For our teachers and students, it is business as usual this week. Yes, we have lots of special events over the next three weeks but we are grounding ourselves by continuing to focus on teaching and learning and by holding the same expectations for our students as always.
We are looking forward to our swimming carnival this week! Students born in 2015 will attend the carnival on Friday and students born in 2014 will attend on Thursday. Parents are more than welcome to come along and cheer on their children. All students are encouraged to attend and participate, with a range of options for swimmers of all abilities.

School Captaincy Selection Update
Last Friday, students shortlisted for the school captaincy roles, presented speeches to all Year 4 and 5 students. The speeches were of outstanding quality, and it is clear that all candidates would be worthy leaders of Mango Hill State School in 2025.
After the speeches, all Year 4 and 5 students, along with staff members, cast their votes for the student they believe should take on school captaincy roles. We are currently in the process of counting votes and allocating roles to the successful students.
The announcement of the captains will be made at the Year 5 Awards Ceremony on Friday 6 December. These students will also be introduced to the whole school at the 2024 Farewell Parade on Thursday 12 December. (Leadership badges will be presented in a special ceremony at the beginning of Term 1 2025).
Parents of students receiving captaincy roles will be informed directly so they can attend the ceremony; however, specific details will not be provided until the official announcement has been made.
We would like to congratulate all students who participated in the leadership process. The quality of the applications was truly exceptional, and the level of dedication shown by all candidates was inspiring.

Returning all books
Don’t forget that now is the time to return all school resources to the Hub. We would love to have everything returned by the end of the year so we really need your help. Please look under beds, in cupboards and at the bottom of school bags.
For those students who have misplaced or lost their books, we ask families to replace the book with another one. For AR books, we will need the replacement to be the exact title and author. Thank you for your support of this important end-of-year process.
Accelerated Reader
Now that the term is almost over, most of our AR readers have finished up… but there are a couple of eager people still working towards some very significant goals. Well done to all of those working so hard on these goals!
Congratulations to Sesini and Ava who recently completed AR, making it all the way to AR 9.0. What a great achievement for both of these readers after years of reading and quizzing! Well done Sesini and Ava!

Congratulations also to Nicola who reached her goal of 4 million words this week. Nicola has been reading and quizzing with commitment all year to reach this extraordinary goal! Well done Nicola!
Have a fantastic week

MHSS Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival
Later this term our MHSS Swimming Carnival for all Year 3-6 students will be held. Our goal is to ensure all students can participate in a variety of swimming races and have an enjoyable day with their peers.
Day 1: Students turning 10, 11 and 12 years old in 2024 (Born 2012, 2013 and 2014) will compete on the first day, which will be Thursday 28 November (week 9).
Day 2: Students in Years 3-4 who are turning 8 and 9 years old in 2024 (Born 2015 and 2016) compete on the second day, which will be Friday 29 November (week 9).
Students compete at sporting events, including at representative levels, in age groups, not in year levels. Therefore, our carnival days run to align with this process.
Below is the initial parent information for both days. Students will receive more information at school in the coming weeks. This will include a permission and race nomination form, which will need to be returned for your son/daughter to attend. There is no cost for parents associated with the swimming carnival days. This was funded by our wonderful P&C.
