As we near the middle of Term 4, school events are starting to ramp up. This week we will be holding our last Yarn and Eats for the year to be held on Thursday 31 October from 3.00pm – 4.00pm in the Piazza. We are also holding our Volunteers’ Morning Tea on Thursday 31 October from 8.45am in Wandani. We would love your attendance.
SRS 2025
By now, families should have received an invoice for 2025 SRS. The school has worked hard to reduce the costs where possible for the 2025 school year. As stated previously, payment is not expected until January 2025, however should you like to pay in full or part payment, prior to the expensive part of the year, families are more than welcome. Book lists are also available on our website so families can start sourcing supplies.
2025 School Planning
Our school is starting to form classes for 2025. Although we do our best to support parent requests, not all requests will be possible. Teachers and all members of the leadership team will carefully formulate classes to suit the needs of all students. Individual requests have now closed.
If you have a child attending our school next year and you are yet to enrol, please contact the school as soon as possible. Our staffing is calculated on enrolments so the earlier we know our numbers, the earlier we can secure great teachers.
Diversity Day
We are holding Diversity Day whole school parade on Friday 1 November at 9.00am in Gigum hall. This parade will be a celebration of Diversity in our school. We are very proud to be in a school that celebrates Diversity and promotes the message that everyone belongs.
If your available come along and celebrate with us.
Year 6 Graduation BBQ
On Saturday our Year 6 Graduation Committee held a sausage sizzle at the Election Day Polling Booths. A huge thank you to parents and staff who gave up their Saturday to raise funds for our Year 6 graduation. Thank you also to community members and parents for supporting this event.
Day for Daniel
Thank you to staff and students for supporting our Day for Daniel on Friday. It was great to see a sea of red!
Cyber Safety Lessons in Year 6
As part of our Respect program, Year 6 students will be learning essential skills to stay safe online. These lessons will focus on understanding online risks, learning effective strategies to manage them, and knowing when and how to seek help. Students will use resources from the Australian Government’s eSafety Commissioner, discussing their right to feel safe and happy online, as well as the responsibilities we all share in digital spaces. For additional information and resources, parents can visit eSafety.gov.au.
Invitation to our Respect Program Parent Information Session
We are excited to invite families to our second Parent Information Session about the Respect program. This session will provide insights into the importance of the program, an overview of what students learn in class, and useful resources for families to support these lessons at home.
Event Details:
- Date: Monday, 11 November 2024
- Time: 4:30 pm
- Location: Wandani Hall
This session is open to all families. We look forward to seeing you there!

This week in Care Class we are learning to Care for Others by embracing the diversity in our community. By celebrating and discussing various cultures, we can better understand and respect the differences around us.
Learning about diversity is important because it:
- Fosters Empathy
- Encourages Acceptance
- Enhances Social Skills
- Builds Confidence
- Promotes Curiosity.
Tough Teeth Program - A message from the team
The Tough Teeth Program is a free dental health screening program that comes to your child’s school. Parents do not need to be present.
- We will take a very quick look in your child’s mouth for obvious signs of decay or other problems.
- We will apply a varnish which releases fluoride over time and protects teeth from decay.
- We provide your child with dental health education and toothbrushing instruction. They will receive a free toothbrush.
- This does not replace the need for children to have a full check up.
We will let you know what we find - we contact you via email/phone/SMS regarding urgent treatment needs.
- We can provide dental treatment for your child at our nearest clinic or dental van with no out-of-pocket costs if they are eligible. Otherwise, you can follow up with your regular dental practice.
- You may need to bring your child/children to dental appointments if further treatment is required.
Parents' consent forms will be sent out to complete via QR Code (preferable) or paper forms for you to complete and return by COB 30/10/24. If you use a QR code, we will receive it directly. If you complete the paper form, please return it to the school office to be picked up.
If your child is currently experiencing a toothache or you have a concern that you would like addressed sooner, please call 1300 300 850 for eligibility and to make an appointment.

Uniform Shop
Incoming Prep students - time to start thinking about uniforms for next year. Appointments are still running for the next two Fridays Nov 1 and 8. If you have been unable to secure an appointment time, you can still visit us during our regular opening hours this term to be outfitted for your new start in the new year. The carpark and our shop can get quite busy around the start and end of school, so please plan your visit accordingly.
There are still appointments available January 14-17 if this time suits you. They can be made at https://wearittomangohillss.simplybook.me/v2/ The week before school goes back in January (20-24) the shop will be open for drop ins, with no appointment needed.
Please bring your child to their fitting so we can ensure they have the correct size. If you are concerned that your child will grow significantly over the Christmas break, we do offer an exchange service. If you purchase your uniform in term 4, and feel they have outgrown it in January, you can pop back in and exchange the items they have outgrown.
If you have any queries, our email is mangohill@wearitto.com.au or our shop phone number is 3482 8117. Our uniform shop convenors are Zoe and Rochelle.
Our regular hours during the term are as follows.

Number
This term we have been building on our learning about number. Students have continued developing their counting skills and are also representing simple number stories using concrete materials. These number stories involve adding quantities together and working out how many objects there are altogether, and taking a number of objects away from a collection and working out how many there are left. You can support this at home by using the early language of addition and subtraction in real life situations. For example, when setting the table, sorting the washing, getting toys out or packing them away. Language you might use could include, how many, how do you know, more, less, altogether, adding and taking away.
Thinking about Year 1
The Prep teachers are at that point in the year where they are starting conversations with their learners about moving to Year 1 next year. Keep an eye out in next week’s newsletter for information about how students at Mango Hill are supported as they transition from one year level to the next. Please talk to your class teacher of you think your child might require some additional planning around transitions so we can work together to support your child during this time.

Celebrating Year 1
How quickly have we come to the middle of our term?? It is great to see focused energy and attention on the Unit Intent for each subject area.
Day for Daniel - Keeping every child safe
On Friday, teachers taught lessons about safety habits such as these strategies shown here. It is so important for every child to be able to recognise when their body is telling them that something is not right and for them to be able to know what to do when they don’t feel safe.

Afternoon Lookout Procedures
In Term 4 there have been changes to how Year 1 students are supported with this. Previously (Terms 1, 2 and 3) students were supported by Teacher Aides with the process. This term they are being asked to be more independent and make their own way to the Lookout. Teachers will be reinforcing the following steps with their classes to ensure students are safely collected for pick up as follows.
- Students will be released at 2.30pm and not before
- Students will access the Lookout through the Main Gate and not the gate near the Kindy.
- It is important that the students sit on the seats in the Lookout area so they can hear their name and be assisted to a) safely access the correct car and b) safely get to their family car in constantly moving traffic. Students to move quickly to the gate when they hear their name/s.
- Wait on the seats and follow adult instructions regarding which gate in the Lookout area they are to wait at to be picked up.
- Footprints on the concrete indicate the safe waiting spot for each specific gate and there is a Teacher Aide at each gate to monitor and assist if required.
We also ask families to assist by displaying a sign on the dashboard of their car or attaching it to the passenger sunscreen showing the family or student’s names. This is of great assistance to the staff on duty as they can easily identify who it is that you wish to collect and quickly call out the appropriate names, aiding in the speed of the pick up process.

If you have a child in another year level, please organise a meeting place within the school grounds so that together they can walk out to the Lookout and sit together as a family.

Learning About Self Regulation
In Care Class across the school we are learning all about self-regulation. Self-regulation is the ability to control and mange feelings and emotions.
Part of this learning involves exploring what stress is and how it might feel in our bodies. Students have sorted cards to show how the body feels when it is relaxed versus when it is stressed and pinpointed on their own bodies where they feel stress. They’ve even identified triggers in their life that make them feel stress.
Check out this great work from the students in 2L.

On Friday this week, we are going to explore what it means to be present, centred and grounded. Students are going to take note of what their bodies feel like when they feel present, centred and grounded and decide as a class on some strategies they can use to help them be centred so that they are ‘Ready to Learn’.
Ways you can help at home
- Consider naming and noticing how your body is feeling across the day. ‘I’m just going to take a moment to notice how my body is feeling. My heart is beating normally. My body is still. I’m feeling calm today.’
- Use strategic questioning to support your child to name and notice how they are feeling across the day. This could be particularly powerful when unpacking conflict situations. ‘What was going on for you when you were angry? What were you feeling in your body in that moment? How is your body feeling now that we’ve talked and solved this problem together?’
We are looking forward to continuing our work in this space across the term so that we have the language to talk about how we are body is feeling in different states.

Learning in Year 3 – Diving into Money!
As we move into our final mathematics units for the year, our Year 3 students are excited to explore the world of money. They’re learning to recognize coins, count change, and make simple financial decisions—skills that bring math into the real world in a fun and practical way!
In the classroom, we use many collaborative structures to deepen students' understanding. Structures like "Think-Pair-Share" and "Numbered Heads Together" allow students to tackle problems as a team, discuss strategies, and explain their reasoning. This peer interaction clarifies concepts and boosts confidence, making learning more engaging and enjoyable for all.
To extend this learning at home, here are a few fun activities to try together.
- Play “Store”: Set up a mini shop at home using household items. Give your child a small amount of pretend money and let them practice counting, adding items, and giving change.
- Coin Sorting and Counting: Gather coins and have your child sort them by denomination. Practice adding different combinations to reinforce counting and addition skills.
- Budgeting Together: Involve your child in small budgeting decisions, like planning for a family outing or grocery list. This offers valuable insight into real-world money management.
Thank you for supporting our Year 3 students as they develop these essential life skills! These hands-on experiences help show them how math is useful every day.
Before and After School Routines - Hats and iPads
I am pleased to share that our Year 3 cohort is doing an outstanding job following our school-wide routines! With the warmer weather upon us, it’s essential that students wear hats to and from school each day. To make this easier, please ensure hats are clearly labelled with your child’s name, and that they only wear hats with their own names on them. If a hat has been misplaced or needs replacement, our uniform shop is here to help.
In addition, students are learning responsibility by keeping their iPads safely stored in their backpacks before and after school. This routine helps ensure that iPads are well-protected during travel. Thank you for your support in helping students care for their belongings and follow these important routines!

Learning in Specialists!
It has been wonderful seeing our students analyse a range of infographics in their technology lessons this term. Students are analysing the design features and layouts of infographics, discussing their purpose, audience and features.
I also had the opportunity to visit 4A while they described physical features of characters during Italian. They were learning the Italian words for physical appearance terms like 'sharp teeth', 'tall' and 'furry'. Be sure to ask your children about these words and how to pronounce them in Italian!

Academic Achievement Spotlight
This week, students are building their skills in financial literacy by tackling real-world math problems. In 5V, they were given the challenge of planning a family day out at the local swimming pool, working within a budget of $100. They had to categorise expenses into essential and non-essential items, making thoughtful choices about how to spend—or save—their money. Some students saved wisely, while others couldn’t resist spending every last cent on treats at the kiosk!
Student Leadership
A quick reminder about our student leadership selection process.
- Application Deadline: Leadership booklets are due Friday 1 November 2024.
- Shortlisting: After submissions, we will shortlist candidates.
- Speeches: Shortlisted students will deliver speeches explaining why they would make excellent school leaders.

Sentence Writing in 6J
This term, Year 6 students are writing diary entries about an event that connects with the reader’s emotions. Part of an affective piece of writing is the sentence creation. In Year 6 student’s are encouraged to use a range of sentence types for effect. 6J have been consolidating their understanding of the different types of sentences and how they can be used effectively. Students then have the Bump It Up Wall to support them to be independent learners. Thanks Miley for sharing the complex sentence you created for your diary entry.

Thank you!
Thank you to the Year 6 parents who volunteered at the election day BBQ on Saturday. We raised $2096 and all funds raised will go towards the graduation.

Future Science
Thank you to Ms Hills for planning the fun experiences for our Future Science students this term. This week, our Future Science students embarked on an exciting field trip to Mango Hill State Secondary College to expand their knowledge of energy sources. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to explore various types of renewable energy, including solar and wind, as well as energy transformations like kinetic and mechanical energy. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students deepened their understanding of how these energy sources work. It was a fantastic learning experience that sparked curiosity and encouraged critical thinking about sustainable energy solutions.

MHSS Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival
Later this term our MHSS Swimming Carnival for all Year 3-6 students will be held. Our goal is to ensure all students can participate in a variety of swimming races and have an enjoyable day with their peers.
Day 1: students turning 10, 11 and 12 years old in 2024 (Born 2012, 2013 and 2014) will compete on the first day, which will be Thursday 28 November (week 9).
Day 2: students in Years 3-4 who are turning 8 and 9 years old in 2024 (Born 2015 and 2016) compete on the second day, which will be Friday 29 November (week 9)
Students compete at sporting events, including at representative levels, in age groups, not in year levels. Therefore, our carnival days run to align with this process.
Below is the initial parent information for both days. Students will receive more information at school in the coming weeks. This will include a permission and race nomination form, which will need to be returned for your son/daughter to attend. There is no cost for parents associated with the swimming carnival days. This was funded by our P&C.
