Term 3 Week 10 2024
The term 3 countdown is on. We have two days to go until students and staff get a well-earned break. A huge thank you to our staff for their tireless commitment to our students and our school. Well done also to our students for the efforts they have put into their learning and the Four Cares in Term 3. We look forward to everyone returning refreshed for a busy but productive Term 4.
Last week we held our annual Arts Fest. The event was extremely well attended. Thank you for making the time to join with us to celebrate the Arts. A huge thank you to Ray White North Lakes, Helping Hands and the Year 6 Graduation Committee for assisting us with donations and for providing volunteers to help on the night. Thank you also to the Patel family for donating the Henna paint, Jamie Bayliss for supporting the silent auction, and to the local businesses for donating prizes to this year’s raffle - Sushi Train Mango Hill, Body Shop, Fit Stop, Deep Grey Photography, KeySerenity, North Lakes Sports Club, Bunnings, Hey Caddy! and to Pollock Financial Planning. We truly appreciate it. It was a great night and we are already planning next year’s event. Funds raised will assist with this year’s graduation and next year’s Arts Fest. Any additional funds will go towards our Arts Program.
Congratulations to our Wakakirri team for being nominated for a National Award. We are super proud of this team. A big thanks to Ms Kostoglou, Ms Morrell and Mr Vleig. Thank you also to the parents/carers of this group as there have been many rehearsals and costume preparations needed behind the scene.
Throughout Term 3, we’ve had a number of students being picked up from school well after 3pm. There is light supervision until 3pm. Please contact Helping Hands should you require supervision after this time.
As the weather is heating up, students are reminded to wear a hat when outside. This includes walking to and from school and when outdoors including PE. If your child doesn’t have a hat, please purchase one from our uniform shop. It’s a good idea to also have a spare. Please name your child's hat.

MHSS Physical Education News Term 3 Wk. 10 Update
Why play sport?
Scientific evidence clearly links regular physical activity to a wide range of physical and mental health benefits.
Increasing the level of participation in regular physical activity is now an identified national priority. The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACPHER), recommend that students participate in 60 minutes of physical activity a day.
A wide variety of sporting opportunities are offered at MHSS to cater for all of the students’ sporting interests and we encourage every student, regardless of their physical capabilities, to play sport. It is hoped that the skills learnt through participating in sport and Physical Education, will encourage students to develop lifelong fitness habits. At Mango Hill we see sport as a great way to develop a healthy competitive spirit, self-discipline, team-work and fair-play skills.
Holiday Programs
With school holidays approaching it is a fantastic opportunity for kids to participate in sporting programs or sign up to a sport played over the summer months. Be on the lookout in the newsletter and around the community for sports such as Cricket, Tennis, AFL and many more.
Pine Rivers District Soccer Champions
For the second term in a row, MHSS has won both the Year 5 & Year 6 Pine Rivers District Soccer Interschool A Competition. This now means throughout Term 2 & 3 both the Year 5 and Year 6 MHSS A Soccer Teams didn’t lose a single match from a total of 36 combined games! A very impressive record!
Interschool Sport
Our Year 5 and 6 students had their final Interschool Sports day for the year on Friday. As always, our MHSS students demonstrated respect, teamwork and commitment, on and off the field. A moment that encapsulated this was when one of our wonderful Year 6 students, Kyzah, took the soccer field for the first time at Interschool Sports (Kyzah has often been a wonderful sideline supporter!). He quickly became involved and was encouraged by his peers. Kyzah scored 3 goals and was celebrated by his team mkates, being carried off the field at the end of the game. What a beautiful moment this was, celebrating what Team Mango is all about!
Have a restful holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 4.
