As we edge closer towards the end of term, I thank our students for continuing to give their best towards all aspects of school. Students have shown resilience as the work load has increased and have overcome challenges with a positive disposition. They will have earned their June/July holidays.
Tomorrow the student council will be holding their first fundraiser of the year, wear your PJs to school. Please see flyer below. This is a fun day and we encourage everyone to participate. It is a gold coin to participate and all funds raised go directly to the student council. A reminder, PJs need to be sun safe and appropriate for school. Although students do not need to wear school shoes for this day, they must wear fully enclosed shoes (no slippers or crocs).
This week teachers are participating in folio moderation. At Mango Hill we moderate regularly to ensure consistency between teachers and to check for clarity on level of achievement. This will ensure report cards are accurate. Report cards will be sent via email, unless you have requested a hard copy, on Wednesday 10 July. Please ensure we have an up-to-date email address. At times, report cards may appear in junk mail so please also check your junk folder. Please contact the school should you not receive these by Thursday 11 July.
This week our school will also be hosting Berry Street training as we continue to implement trauma-informed practice across our school. Our CFN school cluster will be joining us for this professional development day.
Next week we will be holding our Prep parent iPad support ‘drop in’ sessions on Monday 17 June from 7:30 am – 8:00 am and Wednesday 19 June from 2:45 pm – 4:00 pm. If you have any questions, this session is going to be great for you!
We will also be holding our Junior Sports Day on Monday 17 June and our Senior Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 18- 20June. Please refer to further information in this newsletter in the PE section. We are excited to announce the school will be holding a BBQ and food stall on Monday 17 June, Wednesday 19 June and Thursday 20 June. The stall will be open from 9:30 am until 2:00 pm and there will be sausage sizzles, burgers, drinks (soft drink and Powerade can only be purchased by a parent for their child, children will not be permitted to purchase this without parent supervision) and bakery treats. So don't worry about packing your lunch, come down to the BBQ and get your lunch there.
Lastly, next week we will be holding our whole school NAIDOC parade. NAIDOC Week is celebrated July 7 – 14. This week is an annual celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for 2024 is Keep the Fire Burning!
This week in Care Class we will be focusing on Care for Learning by reflecting on ourselves as learners. We will also be learning the difference between good stress and bad stress.
Good stress is when you confront a challenge, you believe you can rise to. Good stress is the type of stress you feel when you're excited. Your pulse quickens but there is no threat or fear. You might feel this type of stress when you ride a roller coaster or compete in a game.
Bad stress happens when you face a problem and think you can’t solve or succeed.
Not knowing something often makes us stressed. We also know that good stresses are okay because we need some challenges but, bad stresses can affect our bodies in harmful ways. Stress can take many forms from; worrying about schoolwork or grades, juggling responsibilities - such as school, work or sports, problems with friends, or peer group pressures as well as changing schools, and moving house.
How can you help your child when faced with stressful situations?
- model healthy coping strategies
- stay calm
- help your child problem solve
- listen to their worries
- focus on the positives
- encourage good sleep and nutrition

Representing Numbers
Exciting learning is taking place in Maths across Prep and I recently had the pleasure of spending time in Prep T to see their work on representing number. Prep learners were challenged to work in teams to represent a range of numbers up to 20 in different ways. This could include using a numeral, picture, number line, tally marks, word, collection of objects, string of beads, towers of cubes and so on. Prep T did an impressive job of working with each other, thinking creatively, solving problems, counting and representing numbers and using lots of mathematical language in the process.
Great work Prep T!

Vision Ccreener Registration Closing Soon
You have until 19 June to register for your child’s free vision screener – please see classroom doors or check you email for details.

School Uniforms
Now is a good time to take a look at our uniforms and double check that our uniform is correct. Wearing our uniform with pride is important at Mango Hill and it’s especially important for students who might receive an award for their Semester 1 achievements.
We like to see:
Fully enclosed black leather shoes and white ankle socks. School hat everyday.
School jumper.
To be prepared for learning, it’s important to have all of our things with us. Our school bag has different pockets that we can use to organise our belongings. When our little ones follow routines, it reduces the cognitive load. Always putting your hat in the front pocket is an example of a simple routine that can help with being organised. When your child leaves the house in the morning, they should wear their hat - it helps to have this established routine for sun safety and so we know we have our hats with us!
Over the upcoming holidays, take the opportunity to go through your child’s iPad. Back up work. Remove and delete things that shouldn’t be there or don’t need to be there. Do you have a charging station in your house? A central place all devices go to, for charging? This helps our children learn device boundaries as well as develop a consistent routine for charging.
In our house, we reevaluate our screen rules together. Last school holidays, Mr 9 decided that when tv time is finished, he should bring the remote downstairs because having the remote away helped the transition from screen to something else.
We all agreed there was no tv before we were 100% dressed, with bags packed, ready to go (and this included exercise time!).
What’s one thing you might tackle over the coming holidays, that will help your child be more prepared for learning in Semester 2?
Have a lovely week

Celebrating Dance at the Junior Mid-Year Concert
It was such a treat to come together on Tuesday night for our Junior Mid-Year Concert. The last time our Year 2 students performed on stage was back in 2022 when they were in Prep. It was wonderful to see how much their skills had developed over the last two years.
At the concert we were entertained with numbers from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Aladdin and High School Musical. Special shout out to all of our families for their support in putting together our costumes on the night. Big thank you also to Mrs Kostoglou who does a wonderful job choreographing and organising everything for our concerts.
Here are some photos from the night.

Sports Day
Another event we are looking forward to next week is our Year 2 Sports Day. This event will be held on Monday 17 June from 12:55 – 2:10 pm. On this day, students will get to participate in a range of activities including sprints, long jump, high jump, vortex throw and a novelty event. Children should wear their sports uniform on this day and ensure they have their school hat so that they are sun safe. Please be sure to check the Sports Day timetable for when your child’s class will be participating in their events.

Assessments- How you can help?
Across the last few weeks our students have been putting all our learning into application. They have been busy solving maths problems, writing fascinating diary entries and much, much more. We are closing in on holidays and at this point in the term our little friends start to feel the demands of such a big term. How can you help?
At home, there are many ways you can support your child’s social and emotional wellbeing. Eating the right foods before and after school provide the sustained energy our students need. Limiting screen time and enjoying green time allows our students the chance to interact, play and release positive endorphins. Finally rest, setting routines for bed time and having quality sleep goes a long way to set up our students for success.
Term 3 Excursion
Over the coming days you will receive notification regarding our excursion in Term 3 to the Botanical Gardens and Planetarium. As previously communicated, there has been recent changes to excursion processes across Education Queensland. It is important that if you wish your child to attend the excursion, you complete the consent request via Q Parents. Your invoice to pay is unable to be issued until we have received your consent. Consent is due back Friday 5 July. Please reach out to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Please also remember we always offer payment plans to families who reach out to request this.

Athletics Carnival
The athletics carnival will cap off a very busy last week of school. Our Year 4 students will participate at the carnival on either Wednesday or Thursday, depending on their year of birth. For students born in 2014, they will participate on Thursday. Students born in 2015 will participate on Wednesday. Students not participating on a given day, will attend class with a Year 4 teacher and other Year 4 students from different classes. Further details of this will be communicated with you by your child’s classroom teacher.
We welcome all parents and carers to come and cheer on their children at the carnival!
Mid-Year Concert
Thank you to all that attended the Mid-Year Concert last night. Our Year 4 performers were amazing!
At the concert we were entertained with numbers from Mamma Mia, Shrek and Mary Poppins. Special shout out to all of our families for their support in putting together our costumes on the night. Big thank you also to Mrs Kostoglou who does a wonderful job choreographing and organising everything for our concerts.
Here are some photos from the night.

AFLQ Schools Cup
16 girls and 20 boys from MHSS represented our school at the annual AFLQ Schools Cup Competition, which this year was played at Burpengary Sports Complex. This was the 8th year Mango Hill State School has entered teams into the competition. Unfortunately, there was only one other team nominated from our region, Banksia Beach State School.
The good news is two teams progress from each region, so Mango Hill State School automatically qualified for the South East QLD finals, to be played next term. The competition day therefore consisted of a boys and girls practice match against Banksia Beach SS. This was a valuable hit out for all players to gain the necessary experience before the South East QLD finals.
As these games were practice matches scores were not kept, but a special mention must go to Leo (boys) for taking out the player of the match award from his game.
A very special thank you goes to the wonderful parents who came as team officials and helped out. Without this wonderful support, days like this would not run smoothly.
