Dear Parents and Caregivers
I can’t believe Term 3 is coming to an end. It’s been such an amazing term with plenty of fun events occurring. Term 4 will also be actioned packed. I’m thankful to our school community for partnering with our school to progress individual learning and well-being. I’m in awe of our staff and the commitment they make to allowing every student to realise their full potential. We have ten weeks of schooling to complete the year and every day counts. We look forward to continuing our partnership together in Term 4.
We appreciate your continued support and loyalty to our Mango Munchies Canteen. We regret to inform you that due to recent increases in wages, food and transport costs, we find it necessary to adjust our prices accordingly. This decision was not made lightly, and we remain committed to delivering the same high-quality products and service you know and trust. This increase will assist in keeping our canteen open 5 days a week. We will continue to monitor pricing and make every effort to minimise the impact on your overall experience. Thank you for your anticipated understanding.
Please see below the new menu for Term 4.
P and C Donation!
Thank you to our hard working and dedicated P and C. This year they have donated $50,000 to our school. This money has been shared out to the following areas.
- Hub $10 000
- Science $10 000
- Early Years $10 000
- The Arts $10 000
- PE $10 000
- Staff Appreciation $1000.
We are very appreciative of their amazing support.
Gold Badge Awards (Year 3-6)
At the end of each year, students in Years 3-6 can apply for a gold badge for academic, sport and/or cultural excellence. I encourage students and parents to read the nomination forms below and apply for one or more badges if they wish to. Students who meet the criteria will be awarded a gold badge. Nominations are due no later than next Friday 20 October, 2023.
Award Ceremonies
The Years 1-6 Award ceremonies for Semester 2 are scheduled for the following days and times. Parents are invited to join us!
*Although an awards ceremony is not held for Prep students, this year we will be formally acknowledging our prep students for completing their first year of learning by holding a first year of learning celebration on Friday 1 December at 9.00am in Gigum Hall.
Class Solver Consent
As we move into Term 4, we will start our planning for the 2024 classes. Given the size of our school, constructing classes is a very complex and time consuming task. We put many hours in behind the scenes to ensure we make classes that take into account students’ individual needs. To help streamline this process in 2024, we will be using Class Solver. This web-based program acts as a data base for student information and allows us to construct balanced classes taking into account individual student needs with more precision.
This program is used by many Education Queensland schools and has proven to an excellent tool in assisting the formation of classes. More information about Class Solver can be found here: https://classsolver.com/.
In order to make use of this program, we require parental consent as students’ names will be stored on the Class Solver’s onshore database. You will receive an email and a QParents consent request notification asking you to consent to the use of the Class Solver program. Please complete this by Friday 6 October 2024.
If you do not have a QParents account, the form will be attached to the email. A copy can also be found below. Please print this and return to the school office.
Arts Fest
Last Wednesday we held our annual Wandani Arts Fest. Thank you to all families who attended. It was a busy but fun night. The students art work was at a high standard and they had reason to be proud of what they created. The purpose of the Arts Fest is to provide an event that brings our fabulous community together. The funds raised go back into the school to run the following year’s Arts Fest. This year, with expenses deducted, we raised approximately $1000. Thank you also to our Year 6 Graduation Committee and volunteers for organising the sausage sizzle. I’m pleased to announce they raised $4730.29 for graduation expenses. Once again, a huge thank you to Ms White, Ms Holm and Mrs Benfer for their organisation. Thank you also to parents, staff and students for a fabulous night.

Italian Speaking Competition
This term, students from Years 2 to 6 were given the opportunity to learn a poem for the Italian Speaking Competition. We are so proud of all the students who participated and came to practices. Students showed a growth mindset, commitment and excellence through effort. Congratulations to all students who were successful in auditioning. We wish them all the best in the next stage of the ILC competition. We look forward to hearing the results in Term 4.
Wakakirri
Our Wakakirri team’s talents appear to be endless. On Friday, our team competed in finals and I’m proud to announce that the team won the following awards.
- Certificate of Excellence with special mention for Mental Health Story State Award
- Spirit of Wakakirri Award
- 2023 National Award Nominee
Once again, a huge thank you to Mrs Kostoglou and Ms Sheehan for their tireless work with the team. Thank you also to our students for being so committed. Thank you to our parents for their commitment and support of this team.

Term 4 Parent Overview
Term 4 is an extremely busy time of the year for our school. Please find attached the Term 4 overview, outlining events and dates. These dates are subject to change so please continue to read the newsletter for updates.
Lastly, as holidays are approaching, I wish everyone a wonderful break. I look forward to continuing our partnership in Term 4. Just a reminder that school resumes on Tuesday 3 October 2023.
Have a wonderful week

Thursday 14 September is R U Okay Day. It is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day is a day to ask “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life. Below is a poster which outlines the steps to having a conversation with someone you may be concerned about. Your conversation could make a huge difference to someone feeling heard and supported!
The Care Class focus that will be delivered this Friday is ‘Ready scale’. We will also be consolidating this focus at the beginning of Term 4 as we begin the new term.
In classrooms on Friday we will be revisiting the self-regulation tool again, which we call a Ready scale. Our Ready scale will help children to identify where they are on the scale, with the help of simplified words and images, and use strategies to get them “Ready”.
ready for learning, ready for playtime, ready for lunch, ready for parade and of course ready for holidays.

Play Time Fun
We have been loving the hotter weather lately. Getting out and about in the Prep playground has been such a great way to move our bodies and fill our buckets with positivity. In Care Class we have been learning about Unconditional Positive Regard and have been applying this to Care for Others in the playground. Each break we have been practising the use of kind words and being the best Mango Mates in many of our activities including the playground and slide, sandpit and grassed area.
I want to wish you all a terrific holiday. This is a great opportunity to rest, refresh and ensure we are recharged for Term 4. We have had many celebrations and seen so much growth in Prep across the first three terms and are looking forward to continuing this success into Term 4. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 3 October. Have a safe and happy holiday.

Have a great week

Over the holidays…
Two weeks of is a chance to recharge, but it’s also a wonderful time for families to “value add” to our classroom learning! A few hints and tips, to help you navigate the upcoming holidays…
- Limit screen time. At this age, our students shouldn’t be on screens for more than two hours a day. Use timers!
- Outdoors, outdoors, outdoors. The most calming place for any brain is outside, in the sunshine, seeing nature. Make sure your child is outdoors as much as possible over the next two weeks.
- Holiday time is a great time to discuss and teach safety messages. Road safety, sun safety, being where your grown up can see you – these topics of conversation are easily navigated through holiday events.
- Read, read, read some more and then read some more after that! Take the opportunity in the car to pop on an audio book. Share a story together!
- Use everyday opportunities to reinforce school learning that link to real life. Count as you set the table. Read all the signs. When you have them at the shops, help them to compare items “which costs less?”. Use all the real life situations, for as much real life connection as possible.
- Hygiene teaching. Hand washing. Wiping bottoms. Flushing toilets. Covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Blowing our noses. All those things we need to learn how to do, to navigate the world respectfully. Use the holidays to help this learning along!
And finally, have some fun together. Our little ones still want to show us all the things. I know far, far too much about pokemon, bakugan, soccer skills, Minecraft etc etc for my liking. I really do. But I’ve learned the value of looking excited. Our little ones learn how to listen and respond, from our modelling. Give them your undivided attention about their (very boring, to us) interests. It pays off, when they show us how they can listen and respond – to our instructions, when we give them!
Have a happy holiday.
Have a great week

Collecting Data in Year 2
The students in Year 2 are rounding out the term in Maths by engaging in a unit all about data. The children are forming questions and are surveying their classmates to collect data. They are representing the information they gather in simple graphs using a key. The students are learning how to interpret the data and make inferences about the information they collect.
Look at these superstars in 2F who are matching a question to a data set and then to a graph.

Instrumental Music Recruitment Concert
Last Thursday the students in Year 2 were given a treat when they were invited along to the Instrumental Music Recruitment concert. At this concert, students were entertained by Miss Nic and her concert band and then by Mrs Bogden and her strings ensemble. Students got to hear all of the instruments individually, learn their names and find out about the family of instruments they each belong to. Some lucky students even got to join in with the percussion section to play the instruments!
If your child was inspired by this concert and wants to learn a strings instrument in Year 3, in 2024, please complete the survey via the QR code on the flyer below.
Have a wonderful week

Learning in Year 3
Thank you for another term of supporting your children to be their best, in learning and in all the connections your child has at school with friends, other students and staff. Assessments are done and dusted (except for the occasional catch up for individual students). Our Year 3 teachers will meet together this afternoon to moderate student results. This ensures that all students in Year 3 receive the same result for the same standard of achievement no matter which of the nine classes they are in. We will moderate English, Math and Science.
I really appreciate your kindness when you take time and opportunities to support our school, our values and Cares, and our teachers and other staff. I received an email this week with wonderful and very positive feedback for two of our Year 3 teachers. I know the teachers really appreciate this too.

Parent Teacher Meetings
All teachers are offering parent teacher meetings over the period from Week 9 of Term 3 to end of Week 2 Term 4. Teachers have identified their availability over this time so you can make bookings at times that mutually suit. If you haven’t met with your child’s teacher, please contact them directly to arrange a time to meet.
Stay and Play!
We can’t wait for Stay and Play this Friday morning in the Year 3 classrooms. We know that some of you will be working or otherwise committed, and our Year 3 teachers will ensure that all students feel included and celebrated whether or not you can make it or not.
September Holidays Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to returning to school on Tuesday 3 October, and seeing all our students. See you then!
Take care and have a wonderful week

Term 3 highlights
It has been a great Term 3, with students taking part in many great learning opportunities beyond our classroom. Our students have taken part in the Bunyaville Science excursion, Stay and Play afternoon, Arts Fest and the Buy Smart program to name just a few.
We look forward to more exciting opportunities coming our way in Term 4!
Term 3 learning
Our Year 4 students have worked so hard this term in all learning areas. The hard work has continued right until the end of this term, with students finishing off final pieces of assessment. Students have been busy sharing their group discussions for Speaking and Listening this week. They have shown great pride in their work this term, with many stopping me when I come to visit to show off their work. Congratulations to all of our Year 4 students on a successful term.
Camp at Runaway Bay
Thank you to everyone who has returned the required camp forms by the due date. Further information, including social stories, will be shared early Term 4.
Have a wonderful week

Ready to Learn Breaks
Our Year 5 students are very busy working on assessment pieces this week. Our teachers continue to make reasonable adjustments during the assessment tasks so that all students have the opportunity to show what they have learned in different ways. Teachers are also making sure that they are using lots of Ready to Learn breaks throughout this time. A Ready to Learn break happens around every 20 minutes and lasts somewhere between 2 to 5 minutes. Our teachers will choose whether they need to lift the energy in the room, or support students to calm their mind and body. In Year 5 we love ‘Desk Drumming’, ‘Go Noodle’, ‘Find the Fantail’ and ‘Brain Bender’ puzzles.
Attendance
It’s so important for your child to attend school each day they are well enough. Students are impacted by absences, in their learning, in their relationships and sense of belonging at school, and in their routines. If your child is experiencing attendance issues, please reach out to your child’s teacher so we can work in partnership with you to support their attendance at school.

Term 3 Learning
What a wonderful term of learning for our Year 6 students. Students have learned how to read, comprehend and write persuasive texts to target an audience. They have delivered slam poetry about relevant issues. They've learned about the links between fractions, decimals and percentages and calculated percentage discounts. They've learned about the importance of contributing to community and interviewed people who have made positive contributions to their local community. They have created presentations to inform their audience about natural disasters and their impact.
In specialist lessons students have completed a fitness assessment and discussed the benefits of regular participation in physical activity, choreographed a dance in small groups, learned about binary and coding using Micro:bits, and communicated with each other using the Italian language.
Arts Fest Volunteers - Thank You!
What a great turn out we saw from our Year 6 parent group last Wednesday night. Our volunteers were outstanding, giving up hours of their time to cook the BBQ, prepare and supply baked goods, create and donate artworks and support with the sale of food and drink at the Arts Fest. Many remained back to help clean up after the event too.
A special shout out to the Year 6 Graduation Committee for their pre-planning for the event. As a team and with the support of volunteers, we have reached our fundraising target for Graduation.
High School Transition Days
Today, students attending MHSSC in 2024 attended their first transition day. There will be another transition day for MHSSC later in Term 4, with some other transition supports occurring throughout next term.
If your child is not attending MHSSC and you would like us to support with their transition to their high school for 2024, please email me. We will gladly support this.

Accelerated Reader
Congratulations to Ayansh who this week reached his goal of reading 1 million words in AR. This is a fabulous achievement and we are very proud of him. As you can see from his smile, Ayansh is suitably proud of reaching 1 million words.
Congratulations also to Liam whoo this week reached his goal of 2 million words. This is a super achievement and we are very proud of him! Liam was super proud to make his goal – and just before the holidays!
Congratulations finally to Lucy who this week reached her goal of 3 million words. This is an extraordinary achievement and we are very proud of her too. Lucy can often be found in one of the Hub’s comfy chairs reading. We are always impressed that she is able to focus on her book even with all of the chatter around her (including that of her brother Liam)!
We have added photos of Lucy, Liam and Ayansh to our special AR display in the Hub. Great work Lucy, Liam and Ayansh!
Borrowing
Don’t forget to visit the Hub this week to borrow some books for the holidays. Holidays are a great time to catch up on some reading. I’m so looking forward to reading some of the books in the piles next to my bed, in my living room and on the bookshelf!
This is also a great time to return any books that you are no longer reading. We are always happy to have books returned back to the Hub.
The Hub is open every morning from 8.15am and until 3pm every afternoon. See you soon!
Have a fantastic week
