Welcome
Welcome back to Term 3 on Team Mango. Special welcome to all our new families.
We have had a wonderful start to Term 3 at school. Our students and staff reconnected happily on Monday morning, sharing holiday stories, and then all refocused on learning. Our hardworking P&C members were straight into it, meeting on the very first day back! Our new staff and returning staff all enjoyed a warm Team Mango welcome. Thank you to parents who popped into say hello.
We are looking forward to many special events in Term 3. We are excited about our year level awards ceremonies this week and next. Parents, you will be able to buy a coffee if you wish at Gigum Hall from 8:00 am on the day of your child’s awards ceremony.
Term 3 also brings the start of our Prep 2024 enrolment interviews, Wandani Arts Fest, Year 6 graduation planning and a whole range of excursions, incursions and camps across our school. Our upcoming Year 6 camp (Week 2/3) will be the last primary school camp for our incredible Year 6 cohort and we wish them a safe and happy time.
School Opinion Survey
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 18 August 2023. All families, school staff and students in Year 5 and 6 will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 17 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2023. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to speak with our office staff to arrange a time to complete their survey online at the school on a school iPad.
Have a wonderful week

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines.
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please feel free to contact your child’s Deputy Principal.
Awards Cermonies- Semester 1
The Care Class focus that will be delivered this Friday is ‘Growth Mindset’. We will also be consolidating this focus throughout next week.
Children develop a Growth Mindset by believing their skills and qualities can be improved through dedication and hard work. We can all work on this idea by doing the following.
- Giving something new ago.
- Trying new games and activities.
- Creating a love for learning and accomplishment in different areas of life.
- Set learning goals that I will need to strive to achieve.
- Asking questions and for help when needed to extend my understanding.
- Receiving feedback positively, I can always learn improve.
- Taking pride in my work by doing my very best.
- Being resilient when a task is new or challenging.
Changes to Payment Window
Please note due to a change in staffing the Payment window will no longer be open on Monday Mornings.
Payments can be made anytime via QParents, BPoint, and Qkr! and at the window Wednesday and Friday Mornings 8:00 am to 9:00 am.

Welcome Back!
It has been an absolute joy seeing the big smiles on our Prep students faces as the return to the classroom for a wonderful term ahead. They were very excited to see their classroom teachers and friends sharing lots of holiday adventures and stories of their two week break. I was very impressed this week seeing everyone back at school and ready to learn. They have had an incredible start to the new term and are all looking amazing in their school uniforms. This week our focus has been on Care for self by ensuring that we are in the correct, full school uniform each and every day. Great to see black shoes, white socks, full formal and sports uniforms along with the school jumpers. Well done to all our families for helping to ensure our students are wearing the correct uniform each and every day. Thank you for your support.
This term in our writing we are learning to describe our likes and dislikes about a story to persuade others. To do this well, we will be learning to create sentences that use feeling words and the character's name. We will be sharing 3 opinions with the reader, including the reasons why they should or should not go borrow our selected book from the Hub. When reading with our students at home you could ask them whether they liked the book or not. Would they want their friend to read this book?

And we're back Year 1 Friends!
I hope everyone had a beautiful holiday - and even if you had to work - that you embraced the no uniforms / no school lunches time that school holidays brings.
We had a busy, but low key break in our house. Miss 11 was in a stage show, so we’ve learned a lot about how many rehearsals it takes to create a successful, professional show. I got slightly lost in a maze - Mr 8 left me in there (suspect his spatial awareness could be more advanced than mine?) - and when I finally solved that problem, I found two Team Mango families conquering the maze too! Team Mango friends are everywhere!
And of course, we tried to be outdoors as much as possible, both for my sanity and theirs.

I was thinking on Monday how I was feeling returning to school. I was excited about seeing my Team Mango teacher friends and excited about seeing my Team Mango kiddies. But there was some - nervousness? New term, how will everyone return, what’s on my job list, what might happen that’s unexpected?
And I’ve done the return to school thing a million times, if you count my own schooling years and my career. I’m practised at it! For our six year old friends though, who’ve only been at this schooling caper for a year and a half, it can be so tricky to settle back in after an extended break.
What can you do to help?
*Be the consistent, predictable adult for them, ensuring consistent, predictable routines. Routines and consistency help keep the calm amidst the morning and afternoon chaos for sure, but they also bring predictability and a sense of expectation to our lives.
*Decent dinners and decent sleep! Decent breakfasts too. Having difficulty getting everyone to the table to eat together? Perhaps consider some talking cards and exploring different topics as you eat together. Sometimes we like to listen to a podcast while we eat. We’ve found some new episodes released from one of our favourite ever podcasts Six Minutes. We’ve had to invoke some “You can’t listen ahead” rules because we’re all obsessed!
*Read. Books everywhere. Flick the pages together. Books are calming. Stories help us to shift our thinking, especially for poppets who have some attentional shift challenges.
The school learning happens when our students are ready to learn, when they are regulated and at their best. I’ve been reading their report cards and looking at our data and the growth in our cohort is phenomenal. This is a team effort! Our amazing teachers, parent support and our hard working Year 1 kids - all on the same page, pulling in the same direction. When you receive your child’s report today, take a moment to celebrate their growth with them! They’ve worked so hard.
Have a great week

Welcome Back to Term 3!
Welcome back everyone! It was lovely seeing the Year 2’s smiling faces back at school after a wonderful two weeks of holidays. Over the last couple of days I was able to pop into all the Year 2 classrooms to catch up with the children to hear about their holiday adventures. In every classroom I visited, the children there had all grown a little bit taller and some were even sporting new haircuts! I heard all about adventures overseas, holidays at home, park plays, bike rides, trips to the movies, to the city and to theme parks.
While there was lots of chat about the holidays, the children got straight into their new units of work. Check out these superstars in 2O and 2M starting their Term 3 learning.

Report Cards
Report cards were emailed home today. They provide a great talking point for families to discuss with their children their strengths and celebrations as well as next steps. Report cards also provide a great opportunity to talk about effort and applying a growth mindset to new challenges and new learning.
Have a wonderful week

Welcome!
The whole Year 3 team are so excited to be back at school for Term 3. We have heard lots of action-packed holiday stories and we have been amazed at how much taller all of our Year 3 friends look. We are trialling some oval playtime for Year 3 students and so far, the big open space is proving popular.
Learning in Year 3
Our learning started on Day 1 of course. This term, we will read Kumiko and the Dragon, and inspired by the author, Year 3 students will become authors and continue the storyline with events, characters and a mood that is engaging. Your child’s Semester 1 report will be emailed home today. Please reach out to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions once you have read the report.
Hats please
Each and every day, students should wear their hats to and from school and at each break. Some Year 3 students report that they have misplaced their hat or that they are forgetting to wear it to school. Could you please help us by doing a “stocktake” to ensure your child still has their hat.
Awards Ceremony
Next Thursday is the big day for the Year 3 Awards Ceremony starting at 8:45 am. You will have received an email invitation if your child is receiving an award. Of course, all parents are welcome to attend.
Take care and have a wonderful week

Back to School
Our Year 4 students have had an excellent first start back at school! I’ve seen lots of smiling faces both in and out of the classroom with friends reunited and new students to welcome. They have had an incredible start to the new term and are all looking amazing in their school uniforms. It is great to see black shoes, white socks, full formal and sports uniforms along with the school jumpers. Well done to all our families for helping to ensure our students are wearing the correct uniform each and every day. Thank you for your support.
Moving around our classes this week I have seen lots of new learning happening. This week, Year 4 have started learning about fractions - recognising equivalence between fractions and locating them on number lines. It is fantastic to see some of the knowledge that the students already have!
This term, we have a schoolwide care focus on Growth Mindset. Our classes will be working towards a class goal linked to this theme throughout the term. Growth mindset is all about ‘bouncing back’, showing grit and determination in the face of challenges. Examples of showing a growth mindset at school include overcoming challenges; completing a difficult task; having another go when you get something wrong the first time; trying something new; and setting goals.
I am sure I will get to celebrate many examples of students showing a growth mindset throughout the term.

Welcome to Term 3!
It has been exciting to return to school and see our Year 5 students so happy and excited to be back with their teachers and friends. Our teachers have taken the time to reset expectations for the coming term and to promote our Term 3 theme – Growth Mindset.
I have seen so much learning happening already this week in Year 5. Our students should be proud of the way they have come back so eager to learn.
Uniform
A friendly reminder about uniforms as we return to school. We encourage all of our students to wear the Mango Hill State School uniform correctly and with pride every day. This includes wearing all black shoes, plain white socks and the MHSS jumper during the colder weather. Thank you for your support in helping our students to uphold the uniform expectations.

Welcome back!
It’s been a busy return to school for Year 6, but it has been wonderful to see all of the smiling faces inside and outside of the classroom during the first few days back at school. I’ve heard some exciting holiday stories and am looking forward to hearing some more throughout the week.
This week, our Year 6 students going to camp in Week 2 or 3 had a visitor from Tallebudgera Camp come out to share some information about camp. The excitement for camp is certainly building!
Today, we had a representative from QLD rail come to our school to present to our students about rail safety. It was certainly a fun, engaging and purposeful learning experience for everyone.
Tallebudgera Camp
Next week, 6L, 6R, 6B and 6W are all attending camp. The following week, the remaining classes will attend. Our teachers have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we are organised for a memorable experience. A reminder that students going to camp, will need to arrive at school at 7am on Monday, ready for an early bus departure. The bus will return on the Friday at around 2pm (this time has been changed from 3.15pm).
Interschool Sport
Friday is the final interschool sport day for our students. So far, they have represented the MHSS values of teamwork, commitment, respect and excellence, exceptionally well. I am confident that they will all have another great day of competition this Friday!

Term 3 Curriculum
This term is full of so many opportunities for students to learn, learn and learn. As well as continuing with our learning in English and Maths, this term will provide opportunities for students to build on their understandings related to Health and well-being. Some classes have already begun this learning and the attached Curriculum Overview provides some more details. Don’t forget to ask our Class Teachers or Specialist Teachers if you would like further information about any of the learnings offered in Term 3.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
It is not too late to join in with the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2023. We would love everyone to participate and it only requires you to read and record the books you are reading! There is a reader record form attached, or you can find a printed copy at the Hub. All forms should be returned to the Hub by the 25 August. We look forward to receiving lots more forms!
The Hub is open every day from 8.15am and until 3.pm every afternoon. We look forward to seeing you all soon!
Book Week: Read, Grow, Inspire
Term 3 is also a great time for us to celebrate all things related to books and reading as we participate in a range of activities linked to Book Week. We will have a special competition and of course a parade or two to celebrate our favourites books and authors! Look out for more information next week.
Accelerated Reader Millionaires
The beginning of a new term is a great time to set some new goals. For many of our students on AR (Accelerated Reader) they can now consider how many books they’d like to read this term or which level they’d like to reach. For some students they have set themselves a goal of reading 1 or 2 million words.
Late last term Navya was successful in reaching her goal of 1 million words, and this week Liam reached his 1 million word goal as well! We are very impressed by both of these young readers and have added their posters to our special Millionaire display! Pop on down to the Hub to have a look at the photos of these super readers!
Have a fantastic week
