Term 1 Week 10 2023

Congratulations, Team Mango, on a wonderful Term 1.
We are very proud of the growth, learning and achievements of all of our students this term. Many of our families have already met with their child's or children’s teacher for parent teacher meetings. Other families will have their meetings in the first two weeks of Term 2. Please take this opportunity to collaborate with your child’s teacher. The partnership between you and your child’s class teacher is so important.
Across the school, we have enjoyed many special events together and celebrated milestones including the following.
- First ever day of school for our Preppies
- Last “First day” of a primary school year for our Year 6 students
- Welcoming new families
- Induction of our 2023 student leaders and leaders attending Halogen Conference
- Injecting $50 000 worth of resources for books, science, sports and music equipment kindly donated by the P & C
- Saying “Bullying … no way!” at our first whole school parade of 2023
- A range of excursions and incursions including a puppet show, reptile show, Kaboom!, Parliament House and more
- Our Year 2 students successfully completing swimming lessons
- Our Year 3 and 5 students successfully completing NAPLAN in Term 1
- 2023’s first Yarn and Eats
- School and class photos
- Cross Country, won by Walker sports house for the first time ever.
This week, you will not find a separate Deputy Principal's update from each year level. Instead, I am writing one message to you from all of us. On behalf of the whole leadership team and all our staff, we thank our Team Mango families for the amazing support you give to your children and to our school each and every day. We wish you and your family a safe, happy and restful holiday.
We have some families moving away, some to other cities but some even as far away as the UK! We wish those families all the very best for the future.
Please remember school resumes on Monday 17 April 2023. We just can’t wait for Term 2!

Have a wonderful holiday

The Care Class focus delivered on Friday, is ‘Everyone Belongs’. Below are the routines and expectations that will be discussed during Care Class and that will also be revised in the classrooms throughout Week 1 Term 2. Students will be learning about diversity, celebrating differences, including everyone as well as learning our school song “The Mango Hill Way”.
Students are encouraged to wear clothing from a group that they feel connected to. This will allow them to show that they belong. This may be a sporting team, family, friendship group, or hobby that they participate in with others.
Of our Four Cares (Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning, Care for our School Environment) learning about Respect and Belonging is about Caring for Others.
Finance Reminders
Paying by BPOINT – Use correct Invoice Number
Please ensure you are using the correct invoice number when paying through BPoint. When the correct invoice number is used it will auto match to the amount owing. If you don’t update the invoice number each time and use a previous invoice number to goes to an unallocated area and requires manual matching and delays to your payments.
Credits on Accounts – Need authorisation to apply
Please remember to send an email or advise on permission note if you would like a credit on your account applied to an outstanding invoice. We require your permission to apply credits and to ensure we are using the credit where you choose.
Payment Plans
Please contact the office as soon as possible if you are experiencing financial stress and would like to sign up for a payment plan. This will ensure your child/ren will be able to attend Camps and Activities as they arise.
Mango Hill State School will once again be participating in the 2023 ICAS Assessments. ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Digital Technologies. Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition. Top performers will be eligible for medals and the opportunity to attend a special award ceremony to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.
Please find attached the details regarding registration and Online Parent Payment System. Specific details of assessment days and times will be released in the near future.
QParents - Term 2 Paper Copies of Permission Forms will Cease.
Starting Term 2 we will no longer print permission forms for excursions and incursions. This decision was made to not only support our sustainability efforts by saving paper and electricity but now that forms can be signed electronically via QParents it will save parents and carers time!
All parents are strongly encouraged to sign up to QParents.
QParents is a user-friendly portal accessible via app or web browser, providing parents with secure online access to information about their child’s schooling.
Simply follow the links from your email invitation sent to your email each week. Complete the verification process or drop in and see our staff to verify your identity and then you will have access to your child’s information including the following.
- Electronic permission notes
- Invoices - pay online via the links
- Attendance – you can advise us via the app if your child will be absent
- Report cards
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call the office.
Term 2 Curriculum
As the students are busy finishing up their Term 1 tasks, teachers are also preparing for Term 2. We have so much learning to look forward to in English, Maths, Science, Technology, PE, Dance, Music, HASS and Visual Arts.
All year levels from Prep to Year 6 will be busy in Term 2 working on their artworks that will be displayed in the Wandani Arts Fest. We can’t wait to see our students working with line, colour, print, tone and sculpture as they create individual art pieces as well as some class art works. These will be made with their Buddy Classes so there will be plenty of opportunities to collaboratively create.
The Term 2 Curriculum Overview provides further details about the learning planned for each year level in Term 2.
Hub Borrowing
Even though it is holidays, don’t forget it is a great time to continue reading. Make sure you pop into the Hub this week and borrow a book or two for the holidays. We are open every morning from 8.15am and every afternoon until 3pm.
During the holidays you might also like to visit our local library. There are so many great books to read there as well as some holiday activities. https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/libraries/Locations/North-Lakes
Have a fantastic week

The overall point’s trophy was this year taken out by Walker House who finished on 343 points. Barton House finished on 310 with Flynn in 3rd place on 305 points. Well done Walker House, on winning your first ever Cross Country!
30 students have been selected in the Mango Hill Cross Country team to compete at the upcoming Pine Rivers District Cross Country trials. These students are aged from 10-12 years and will complete either a 2km or 3km course. These lucky students will be notified early in Term 2.
Pine Rivers District Sporting Trials (10-12yr Old’s)
Pine Rivers District School Sport offers 10-12 Year old students the opportunity to try and make the Pine Rivers District team for a variety of sports. If successful, they compete at Metropolitan North trials and carnivals, with the possibility of selection into teams competing at State events. Students must be nominated by their school in order to attend a district trial or carnival.
District trials are held at various venues within the Pine Rivers District (e.g. Les Hughes Sports Complex) and are not attended by MHSS staff. A Pine Rivers District Coach and Manager will facilitate the trial.
Students who express an interest to trial can collect forms from our PE office. They will be given the Pine Rivers District forms and the relevant trial information. Completed district forms are to be returned to the PE office by the due date. Once the forms are collated, students will be nominated for the trial. Forms are then handed back to students and must then be taken to the coach/manager at the District Trials. Students will NOT be allowed to trial if district forms are not handed in completed. Unless specifically organised by the school, it is the parents’ responsibility to transport students to and from district trials.
Most Pine Rivers District trials are limited to students turning 11 or 12 years of age and who are considered at a high level in the sport e.g. Div. 1 or A Grade. Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming trials however are open for students turning 10, 11 and 12 years of age. Sports that students are able to trial for include the following.
- AFL
- Basketball
- Cricket
- Football (Soccer)
- Golf
- Hockey
- Netball
- Rugby League
- Rugby Union
- Softball
- Squash
- Tennis
- Touch
- Triathlon
Mango Hill can normally nominate up to three students for each district sport trial. If more than three students wish to be nominated Mango Hill will select the three best candidates for the trial. The selection of these students may be either based on past performances/current club form or through a selection trial at school.
If you are interested in your child trialling for Pine Rivers District more information can be obtained from the Mango Hill State School newsletter, with regular trial updates listed. You can also contact Mr Nick Hills - nhill96@eq.edu.au (MHSS PE Teacher) so he is aware of your intention to attend the trial.
AFLQ Schools Cup Competition

Students compete against teams from other schools for Interschool Sport. They will vote for which sport they would like to play and can train at school during our lunch clubs. The Interschool Sports for 2023 are as follows.
- Netball
- League Tag (Boys)
- League Tag (Girls)

Students have now received their permission and voting form. This needs to be completed and returned for students to participate.
