Year 6 News by Ben Mills

Learning in 6C
In Year 6 this term, students are writing a diary entry that connects with the reader’s emotions. To inspire their diary writing, students are taking on the characters from episodes within the ‘My Place’ series. They watch an episode, then write a diary entry from the perspective of the main character.
This week I visited 6C during a lesson on including verbs into their diary writing that show what a character is feeling. 6C explored and generated examples of doing, thinking and feeling verbs to enhance their diary entries. To do this, Miss Curran used digital tools to collect and organise student’s thinking and ideas.
By the end of the lesson, 6C were able to successfully include carefully chosen verbs to describe an event at a point in time that helped connect with the reader’s emotions. Excellent work 6C!

Year 6 Graduation – fundraising opportunity
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to support with cooking the BBQ on election day to support the fundraising efforts for Year 6 Graduation. If you’re heading to the school on Saturday 26 October to cast your vote, stop by to grab a sausage and/or drink!
Public Speaking and Debating
Last night we had 3 students from Year 6 participate in the Lions Club public speaking competition at The Lakes College. Well done to Sri, Anh and Sesini on your outstanding presentations. You represented Team Mango excellently! Congratulations to Sesini on placing 3rd!
Tonight, our Year 6 debating teams compete at St Columba’s. Good luck to Ravya, Anh, Sesini, Sai, Mila, Roisin, Kapish, Jade and John. We know you will display the Mango Hill Values and represent Team Mango with pride.
