Year 6 News by Ben Mills

Learning in Year 6
I once again had the pleasure of visiting 6D during the week as they began a new Maths unit on making links between fractions, decimals and percentages. Mrs Drummond challenged 6D by providing them with a range of tasks that required students to think deeply and reason. After answering some “Which One Doesn’t Belong” questions as a class, 6D students had to create their own WODB questions to try and trick their friends. It was fantastic to see students thinking deeply about potential misconceptions as they created these.
Earlier this week, I also popped into visit 6W and 6V as they were working away at calculating percentage discounts. It was great to see the enthusiasm and confidence of the students in 6V solving a range of percentage discounts with larger numbers. In 6W, students were working collaboratively to solve problems and teach one another, something that 6W are always very good at!

Year 6 Graduation – fundraising help
Thank you to the many parents who have volunteered to support at the Arts Fest in various ways. We can still use more support! Please let me know if you can spare some time on Wednesday 6 September at bxmil3@eq.edu.au .
MHSSC Transition Day
The first MHSSC transition day will be a half day in Week 10 of this term. For students to attend, they must be enrolled and had their enrolment interview. The final opportunity to do this before the first transition day is on Thursday 7 September. Information regarding enrolments, including submitting an enrolment enquiry to access the enrolment application form, can be found on the College Website.
Have a great week
