Term 3 week 10 2025

Staffing
In last week’s newsletter we farewelled some staff, I’m pleased to confirm Term 4 staffing has been finalised. We welcome Junine Correlje and Megan Goodall back from maternity leave as well as Mel Edwards and Jo Bulger after taking some leave from Mango Hill. We also welcome Taleatha Morgan and Jess Bonavia, who are new teachers to Mango Hill. We are excited to have these teachers at Mango Hill for this term. Please join with me in welcoming them.
Arts Fest
Our Arts Fest was so well attended. Although the primary aim of holding the Arts Fest is to promote The Arts, we’ve also been able to raise approximately $15, 000 for our Arts Program as well as the Year 6 Graduation. Thank you to our community for supporting this event. We had a wonderful night and this would not have been possible without your support. A big thank you also to Ray White North Lakes for their ongoing support and amazing generosity to allow us to run our Arts Fest. Thanks also to CJC Law, Compass Building and Pest, Federal Member for Petrie - Emma Comer, Auctioneer – Tiera and Brian from The Loan Market. Thank you also to the many parent/carer volunteers and staff who assisted on the night. We appreciate all that you do.

Please find 2026 booklists attached below. We will be finalising the SRS at the next P&C meeting on Monday October 13. We hope to see you there.
Thank you
To our students, thank you for your work ethic and for being the best version of yourselves. I love walking around the school, talking to our students. Students continue to bring a smile to my face, by their caring nature and with their use of manners. They have absolutely shown Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning and Care for the Environment.
I’d also like to thank staff at Mango Hill. Their commitment, passion, and hard work is second to none. I wish them a restful holiday, with time to disconnect, so they are recharged for a busy but exciting Term 4.
School Holidays
Lastly, please stay safe during September holidays. Roads will be busy so be mindful of traffic and always wear your helmet if you are on wheels. If you are boating, please remember to wear a life jacket and if you are near water, swim only when an adult is supervising you. We care about everyone at Mango Hill and want everyone back ready for a fantastic Term 4.

Italian Calligram Competition 2025
We are proud to announce that two of our students have won first prize in the Italian Calligram Competition, which is run yearly by the Italian Language Centre.
A calligram competition is a special kind of poem or phrase where the words are arranged to form a picture that represents the meaning of the text. For example, a poem about a tree might be written in the shape of a tree.
Our students showed wonderful creativity by combining their Italian language skills with artistic design and we are delighted to see their talent recognised. Congratulations to our winners!
Raizel (Year 6) and Inayat (Prep).
Diversity Day Parade
Diversity Day Parade – Friday 17 October (Week 2, Term 4)
We are very excited to be preparing for our upcoming Diversity Day Parade! We would love for this special event to showcase the many cultures and traditions that make up our school community, and we would love to highlight the unique heritage of our families.
There are many ways cultures can be represented – from traditional dress, music and dance to stories, artwork or special customs. Every contribution, big or small, helps to make our celebration more meaningful and reflective of our community.
If you would like to share an idea or be involved in any way, please get in touch with Mrs Burnett at jburn289@eq.edu.au. Together, we can create a colourful and memorable celebration that represents the wonderful diversity of our school.

Care Class
This week in Care class we are Caring for Self by being aware of how we can be safe in the sun and in the water- especially as we are heading into the holidays. It is important that we are caring for our bodies by wearing a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses when in the sun. Staying hydrated and drinking lots of water is important too.
If we are near water ways such as pools and the beach, being aware of and following the rules will help us to stay safe. Remember to swim between the flags at the beach and know where your adult is when you are at a pool.
Stay safe and have a wonderful holiday!
Reading at Mango
Reading in Year 6
As our Year 6 students prepare to transition into high school, strong reading skills are more important than ever. In Year 6, we’re focused on giving students the tools they need to become confident, independent readers who can tackle complex texts across all subjects.
A big part of this work involves going beyond phonics and fluency to explore how words are structured and carry meaning – a skill set known as morphology.
Some of the ways we have put morphemes to work this term include -

Instrumental Music
We are now starting the recruitment process for the Instrumental Music Program in 2026. If your child is interested in being involved in the strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass) or band program (brass, woodwind or percussion instruments), please scan the relevant QR code on the flyer for more information and to fill out the online expression of interest form.
P&C News
The end of Term 3 is upon us, how did that happen so quickly? We'd like to thank all the volunteers we've had support us through the year so far, we absolutely appreciate all you do!
